This is our last post of 2009! I can't even believe it! We have done really well with our dedication to exercise, health, and blogging!
Well, in 2009 I lost 25 pounds. I went from not being able to do one single pushup to being able to do 40. I went from "running" a 13 or 14 minute mile to running a 10 minute mile. I ran in three 5k runs. I have three 2009 5k t-shirts....but only one favorite! Pretty big year for me in the health department I would say.
I'm sure happy to leave 2009 behind though. It's been a good, but difficult, year.
Well, today I ran even though I was sore! I had a really good one, too. I ran 3 miles in 28:30. I kept running until 33 minutes though. I also calibrated my iPod so I ran another half mile at 6.0 while doing that. So, solid run.
No other exercise today though. Making it through my run took all my dedication for the day!
I can't wait for my first run of 2010!

I'm Old!
And boy can I feel that I did something different today! Ouch.
I ran 3.5 miles today. 3 miles at the 28:30 point and 3:17 at 30 minutes. Then I ran to 3.5ish slowing down. I did the last 10 minutes at 6.5 again today. I did the entire thing at a 1% incline.
And then the real fun started! We did a circuit training plan of hers. After each machine we ran 5 minutes. We started at 6.0 and ended at 6.7. So I bet I ran another .5 mile during that business.
I clearly have a lot of work to do on my abs.
It was fun - but I'm really sore!

Yep....
Did it again! I did have a good run this morning. I took it kind of easy. 1% incline and, for the first 20 minutes, I ran at 6.1. I finished the last 30 minutes up at 6.5. I ended up running 3 miles in 29ish minutes and I was at 3.11 at my 30 minute mark. So that was pretty good!
Then I did pushpus and abs. Remind me to show you my flutter kicks before I leave. Then you can torture yourself in a whole new way!!

Good run this morning. Three miles, 1% incline. I think my time was around 29:30, but I don't remember exactly.
I did the bands again today and I'm already hurting!! I really like those. I'll have bulging muscles soon!

My Christmas gift to myself......
I did NOT weigh myself this morning!!
I had a delightful morning. Slept in until 9! And then I hung out and drank coffee. I ran this morning and I listened to the Downhere CD. I LOVE it! In fact, I didn't want to get off the treadmill until it was done! So I ended up running 4 miles. My time was 38:38! And my 3 mile time was 29:19, if I remember correctly. Which I may not.......
Then I did the resistance bands! I'll be honest - my shoulders feel like raw meat now! I really think these will work great! Thank you so much for them!!
I also used my new ear phones this morning and they are amazing! They stayed in the entire run - nice and snug. I didn't have to fiddle with them at all. I don't know what to do with my hands now!

Snow!
I had a good run this am, but I took it a bit easy. I am really sore and kind of flopped about last night. I think I just pushed it really hard the last couple of days!
Anyway, ran three miles in 29:28. Just a 1% incline today. My stopped heart rate was 164. I burned 10 million cookie calories!
I'm so excited about this beautiful snow! And that I'm not shoveling it!!!

Great One!
Merry Christmas Eve morning! Well, it will be when you read this post! I'm excited and I'm excited to be here!
I had a great run this morning. Partially, that is because I really didn't want to do it but I did it anyway. It feels good to overcome those thoughts.
Because I did such a long run yesterday, I stuck to three miles today. I did a 1.5% incline today, though, and it really made me work! Three miles at the 29:30-ish mark.
I did pushups and abs after. Full morning!

Wow!
Boy, did I run today! I made a new playlist and decided I would run for all of it. Turned out to be 4.44 miles of music!
I hit three miles at 29:19 and 4 miles at 38:21. Pretty good times. 1% incline today.
BEWARE!!! The treadmill is set to 0 incline. I was going to put it back to 2% but Mom was watching me! It was like she KNEW!

OY! My Bum!!
Whoo boy does my rear hurt!! I ran on the treadmill today at a 1% incline. You would think I have never run a step in my life! Ouch!
Because I was on the treadmill, I could really judge how hard I was working, so that was great. For the last five minutes I ran at 6.4!
I did run over three miles in 30 minutes today! I was a sweaty mess.
I skipped pushups because my arms are SORE!
Tomorrow: Operation Sleep In!!

You are right.....
And I know that does not come as a surprise! But the key is dedication and perseverance. And I think we have both proved that we are in it for the long haul. It is easy to beat myself up but, actually, I need to give myself credit for all the hard work I'm doing! Self pep-talk done!

Christmas Goals
I've been meaning to tell you that I did NOT lose five extra pounds! But I do have goal for Christmas.
Goal 1: Run every day with two days off. I do not know which two days I'll take off, but I do want to make sure I run and do not slack!
Goal 2: Weigh in every day and make sure I'm staying in my 130 range.
Goal 3: NO eating cookies alone! I tend to do this....do I think the calories do not count if nobody sees?!?!

30:09!
Man! I'm having a tough time with my time! And I had, yet again, a tough time getting up and getting out. But I did it. I did snooze this am but was up at 5:10 or so. And I was even late running! I have those finals Saturday and I have a project due. And I've been studying. Got totally sucked in this morning and, before I knew it, it was 7!
But the run was accomplished and the pushups were done. Errands at lunch so no hills.

Hard...but done!
Not the running part. The getting up part. It has just been so difficult. Today I got up at 5:10 though. So, I am inching closer to my get up time.
Good run this am - still over 30 but it was 30:04 so getting there. Then ab stuff. And I'm up a pound! Sigh. No hills at lunch. I had a follow up with the beta blocker doctor - which was totally fine.
So, that was my day! Home from school at 9:45. Early so that is great!

Brrr!
Actually, I think it is warming up a bit! Still too cold for this tenderfoot!
I had such a hard time getting up today. In fact, I snoozed until 5:20. Honestly, I think it is just work dread. I cannot wait for time off.
Pretty good run this AM - slow, though. I really need to get back up to speed. Then I did pushups. Not all crazy style like you!
Also ran hills today at lunch. Maybe I'm getting back on track.

I set the incline to 1.5 this morning and I could feel that! Not sure what those numbers means and suppose I could find out in the manual if I looked. Anyway, kept telling myself it was good for me but I could sure feel it after 30 minutes. Good Morning
Slept in until 7:30 today and that was very nice. Then I did the running with our friend, Mr. Diamond, and the pushups and situps. All went well and feeling good. Putting up our tree today. Everything else is out and up except that. Hope you're having fun at school!

Not a wash out!
I was kind of hoping for a rain out today. I didn't sleep well last night and I could have used some extra zzzzzzzz's except, well, I couldn't sleep! So I did get up at 5 and, shockingly, the weather folk were wrong! It wasn't raining. Actually, it looked like it rained in the night. So I did run (slowly!) and it was good.
Then pushups.
Then I did get rained on at lunch! I did hills even thought it was raining. I just really really needed out of the office.
Tomorrow I have school at 8 so I won't run in the morning because I really need to study. Perhaps in the afternoon though. See what kind of time I have. I am so behind on Christmas things I need to get some of that done!

Another day!
Well, I did run today although I didn't think that was going to happen! My alarm went off and I just snoozed like crazy. Didn't get up till 6. And then, at 7, I decided that I would go for a run anyway. Why not, even if it is a bit later. So I did! 30 on the dot! And then I did abs. Not running at lunch though.

Back to it
I've really been feeling not good (happy) and because of this I didn't run yesterday. And I didn't do homework! I read!! I just didn't have it in me.
Today I almost didn't get up. In fact, after my alarm went off I reset it till 7! And then I thought "Oh, my poor coffee....I'll just get up and drink it....." and I did. And then I thought "Oh, what the heck! I'll run!", so I did. And then I did pushups.
And I even ran hills at lunch. And I do feel a little better. Less hated by the world. See....exercise is good!

Yep!
Another slow one today! I really think it is because I've not been hitting the hills.
ABBA and I tried our best not to freeze this morning. It was SO very cold! So very cold. I checked myself for frostbite when I got home. BRRRR! Then I did pushups when I got home. Didn't want to but I did em. And then I did hills at lunch. Back to that!

Another one down.....
Another day that is! I tell you, I'm really excited for a break. I had another late night last night. Worked late so I ate late so I went to bed late so I got up at......5! Yep, gotta keep those habits!
Good run this morning but another slow one. I wonder if it is because I have not been able to run hills for the last week or so. I did yesterday, but I needed to do homework at lunch today so I didn't do hills today.
Anyway, I did run. And it was such a beautiful morning and the sun was so pretty as it was rising. And then I did my abs stuff! And then I forgot to weigh myself. And then I ate three pieces of bread by cramming them in my mouth because I was SO hungry!
So there!

Sore!
Well, I sure can tell I've not run hills for some time. I can really feel it tonight!
I didn't want to, but I got up this morning and ran. Didn't want to just because I was really tired. It is hard for me to go to bed right after school. Just takes some time to chill out!
Slow run this morning, but I've noticed that on my after school days. Then pushpus. Then hills at lunch. I only did 5 hills, not 7. I didn't want to break myself on my first day back!
When I do ab stuff, I do crunches and then I do the "bicycle". Here is an example (not of me!!):

Back at it!
Well, I ate no junk today! Finally! I feel like I've been so stressed and unhappy that it is causing me to act out in my eating. I've really got to get it together.
Anyway, fairly healthy eating day. And I ran today, too. It was darn slow but I did it!

Did the running and exercises this morning, too, but forgot to post here. Ran the full 30 minutes and did 2.5 miles. Nice and level on that treadmill. One of these days I'll see if it inclines! :)

Good Morning
Good morning! I'm up and back at it! Felt good, too, I have to say. But got hung up in the music again and ran on the mill for 32.08! Was listening to one of my old Kingsmen albums. Then did the pushups and situps and now ready for the day. I'm not at church this morning so a rare Sunday for exercise. But wanted to do it because I haven't done it since Thursday! And my weight held steady since then in spite of the pecan pie!

Slackin to the Maxin!
I've not been slacking on posting as much as I was slacking on running! Just wasn't feeling great. On the upswing now though. And I feel like I mentioned this in a comment.....hey, I'm old! I forget things!
I did have a great run this morning! And I'm glad because I ate A LOT tonight! But, wow, was it a beautiful day. I bet it was 80 when I ran.
My favorite thing today was Potatoes a la Barton. Thin sliced potatoes, covered in shredded gouda, garlic, pepper, and cream! Healthy, too!!
Thought about you all day and I hope you had a great time! What was your favorite thing today?

Good Morning
Looks like we were both slackin' off here yesterday. I guess I forgot this in my rush to get my car down to Dallas Auto by 8:30 so they could start repairing it. What's your excuse? (And when we came home from White Bear Lake my car was still sitting exactly where I left it! So what was the deal about having it there by 8:30?)
Anyway, I did run and exercise yesterday morning and the same again today. We also stopped at Anytime yesterday on our way home and did an hour there. Hope to get there today sometime, too.

Whew!
I ran 6 miles today! I can't believe it actually. I ran this morning, as is routine. Good run - 29:something. Then I got home from school tonight and I was so fired up I decided to do it again! This was was 30:44 but I was avoiding cars and it was getting dark.
Funny how this has become such a stress reliever and an outlet for extra energy.

Hard Run!
And by hard, I mean difficult! No matter what your lab tech says, don't run after giving 4 vials of blood!
My run was really slow - about 31:30. That is an old school time! I think it has been months since I've been that long. But, better then that, I felt so nauseous by the time I got home I just could not believe it! Clammy and sweaty. Geeze. So.....live and learn! I'm feeling better. Cold water helped a lot.
But I really did ask if it was OK and I got the stamp of approval!
I'm getting closer to my 125 goal. I've been 127.5 today and yesterday. I'd like to stop at 125 and figure out how to firm up without losing more. Maybe I should get some of those resistance bands. Do you have those?

Well, I did not do well on another quiz! And I have a 200 question midterm on Saturday. I just want this OVER.
Ran this am. Glad I implemented the "no making decisions while in bed" rule so many months ago. I was tempted to not run! But I did it and did it well. 29:46 was my time. Then ab stuff after. That is helping, I think. Then hills at lunch. First time all week.
I am going to the doctor as soon as I get up tomorrow. I am getting blood work done and just want....well, to get it done! Can't eat or drink coffee (!!) before. So, first thing.

Close one! But I did it. Pretty good run this morning. Then I did pushups. I'm adding back in lunges and squats so I did those again this morning.
No running at lunch today - or tomorrow or Wednesday for that matter. It has been so long since I've been to the doctor that I'm just knocking that stuff out over the next couple of days. If I get really brave maybe I'll even go to the dentist! I hate going to the dentist though. They are like mechanics - they always want to do stuff I can't afford!
Healthy eating day here, which is good because I did need to get back on track from my weekend festival of eating!
No running at lunch today - or tomorrow or Wednesday for that matter. It has been so long since I've been to the doctor that I'm just knocking that stuff out over the next couple of days. If I get really brave maybe I'll even go to the dentist! I hate going to the dentist though. They are like mechanics - they always want to do stuff I can't afford!

Good morning. I guess. Ran on the mill this morning and went fine. 30.38. Glen Campbell kept singing this morning and didn't know enough to quit at 30.00. Then the usual. Am wondering why the heart monitor I wear says I get to mid 150's but the handlebars on the mill say I'm in the mid 180's. Think if I was really in the 180's I would have a heart attack. On the elliptical at Anytime I can't get out of the 120's. Oh well, at least it's beating. Have a good day.

Catching Up
I'm slacking here!
I did take Friday off. Morning and afternoon! I was just so tired. And, honestly, it is hard getting home at 10:30 and winding down and then getting up at 5. So, I'm accepting that I just plain needed a day off.
I had a good run today though. Did it later in the day. My time as 29:41. Good for a Saturday afternoon. Those tend to take longer for me usually! I was considering doing a bit of a longer run but I had a stitch in my side so I decided to end it at 3 miles.

Tired!
And unoriginal! But I can't help it - I'm worn out.
I had a solid run this am. Really sore from the squats and lunges I did this AM! Took me a bit to get into my stride. But my time was 29:52, so that is good.
I did ab stuff when I got home. Seems to be working! I'm feeling flatter a bit.

Tired!
I'm so worn out that I think I'm going to bed soon. I should be studying, but I just don't have it in me. I'll go to bed and be ready to study tomorrow!
Good exercise day - filled with the usual suspects. Run (29:537 - close one!!), pushups, then hills at lunch. I did lunges and squats again today after my run. I've not been doing those recently.
I probably won't do hills tomorrow. We shall see - I'll bring my gear just in case! But I'm tired and could probably do with an easy day. You know, it is decided. I'll take a day off of hills!

Stuff...and stuff!
I had a good run this morning - well, great in a way. My time was 29:57. And that is a bit slower then usual. But what is cool is that I thought I would be substantially over 30 minutes. By at least 30 seconds, was my estimate. At my last watch check-point, is when I realized there was no way I'd make my time. But I did! I ran that last part really fast! And I made it!
Then I did pushups when I got home. And I was really thinking today about when I started doing pushups. When I first tried, I could not do ONE. Not even one! But I just kept practicing and now I can do so many. Pretty cool.

Another weeks begins. I did the aerobic bike and the walking this morning plus the pushups and situps. All went well. Trying to stay motivated though because I don't seem to be losing any weight. Mom says muscle weighs more than fat so I might have to go back to fat! I was down a pound on Saturday and today am back up 1.6 lbs! How can that be? If I was eating like a pig I could understand it but I'm not and it just makes no sense. Oh well. Hope you have a good day.

Catching Up
Sorry you have been alone here for a few days. Lazy, I guess.
I ran Friday morning and did pushups but I didn't run hills at lunch. Just could not even contemplate doing so.
I tried to run Saturday, but that sure didn't pan out! I ate some yogurt right before I left and at .5 miles in I just could not even continue. I had a terrible stomach cramp. I have learned a valuable lesson - that I should have learned a few weeks ago! I need to have a pretty empty stomach I guess. Usually in the AM I have a glass of soy milk, a glass of water, and coffee. And that is in the 1.5 hours between getting up and running. Gotta keep that in mind.

Good Morning
Hey, I ran outside this morning! Didn't get going until 8 am so it was warmed up to 52 by then. Beautiful and sunny and not windy. Perfect! And I ran the 2 miles in 19.58!! Remarkable I think given the fact that I haven't really run a full 2 miles outside in 4 months! Yes, 4 months! I can't believe it either. I've been running the 2.5 miles on the treadmill but it's much harder outside because the first 4/10ths is up hill. So the old heart was a working this morning. I wore the monitor you gave me and my heart got to 165! So my day is off to a good start. Hope you have a good one, too.

Good Morning
I did get to Anytime yesterday after work about 4 pm. Did the weight machines for arms and legs and then 20 minutes on the eliptical machine. Not sure I like that as well as a treadmill. Harder to work up a sweat. Not doing it fast enough I guess. Will do it a couple more times and see how it goes.
Ran 30 minutes here this morning and then the usual pushups and situps.
Having a small non member funeral this afternoon at 2 pm so don't know if I'll get to Anytime today or not. Going to have a beautiful day here. 62 and sunny so might come home and go for a bike ride instead.

Why quick? Cause it is Thursday! I totally forgot to do this last night. I was on call and had/have so much homework to do that it makes my head spin. So, naturally, I went to bed at 9. I'll regret that - from a study perspective - I know.

Just made it.
As you know, I've been stressed. And I really have not felt like running. I've felt like pouting, though. A lot. So it was hard to go this morning. But I did and it was....OK. I wish I could say "It was amazing and changed my entire attitude!" but, naw, just a run. 29:59 - just under the wire!

I guess. Didn't sleep at all last night. No reason for it but sure didn't. Was awake at 5 am but didn't get up until 6:30. But this is Monday! So the day is not off to a very good start. I did run on the treadmill though. Did 31.16 because our friend Barry kept on singing. What a guy. then did the pushups and situps.

Good Morning
Up and at it here although we did sleep until 7:30 or so! Felt good. Boys woke us up. Not on purpose but their little voices. You know. Anyway, did the aerobic rider and walking, pushups an situps. Now Paul is making a big bacon and egg breakfast so will undo all my hard work! Oh, well, we gotta live, too, right?
Have we told you we are getting a free month at Anytime Fitness? They're having a biggest loser (they spelled it "looser" on the million flyers they had printed up!) contest and if you sign up for that you get a free month. Neither of us wants to be the biggest loser but we're going to try it out. Starts Monday but we already have our keys to the place. This is where Mike and Angie go. Not sure how I will work it into my day because I don't want to go over there first thing in the morning and am not going to give up my morning routine here at home. But will give it a try. Don't think we'll be joining, however, because our insurance won't pay for any of it and it's about $60 a month. But we'll see. I'm thinking maybe I would stop there on my way home on Tuesday and Thursday and then go over sometime on Saturday.

Yep
Another day. Another run. Another pot of coffee. Another day at work. Yep!
Beautiful morning today. I went out and I could see the fire-y red sky. So pretty. And one house had delicious smelling roses. And people are in the Halloween spirit! It is fun.
Good run - 29:28. Then I did ab stuff when I came back. I did not do hills at lunch - I did eat coffee cake though! It was my girlfriend's birthday and I went to her house at lunch for coffee and cake. Fun!

1/2 Success!
I had a really great run this morning - 29:33. Then I did pushups. Back up to 14 per set!
I worked through my lunch - which is sad. Sigh. But such is life.
I'm feeling a lot better tonight. I have been drinking a TON of water (and no pop at all!) and eating a lot of veggies. I think it was the miracle cure!

And it is a very good morning indeed! I ran the whole 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning! The whole 30 minutes! With no difficulty! I have it set for 5 mph so that's only 2.5 miles but still I RAN FOR THE WHOLE 30 MINUTES!!! Plus I did the stretching and the pushups and situps. But the big news is that I ran for the whole 30 minutes. First time since early July. I'm sitting on ice now as a precaution but the leg feels fine. Hurray!

What a difference......
A few pounds makes!! I had a couple weeks of stress which means, apparently, a couple weeks of stressful eating! I've been working to get back on track this week and I can really tell the difference in just a few pounds. Funny, because for so long I was so used to carrying around so much more! Now I felt really uncomfortable about it and made sure to get back on track.
Just a beautiful morning this morning. To the west the sky was pink. To the east it was golden. No skunks! Can't get better then that! 29:51 was my time - I really thought my pace was slower then that even.
Did pushups after the run and I've been trying to get back up to where I was with those. Almost there. Did an extra set today. Then I ran hills at noon.
You have inspired me to do some stretching. I've had this weird hip thing going on - just feels tight most days although sometimes it is tender. I know it is related to running. How? It feels better when I don't run! So I looked up some stretches. Feels better tonight.
Hope your day was good and you didn't overshoot any airports!

Motivated!
I'm so glad we have this blog! I was really thinking on what I've been doing for the last month and I realized I was just exercising because it is this thing I do. Not because I was really enjoying it so much or because I was challenging myself. I don't think it is a bad thing to just do it because it is 'what I do'. That is a good thing actually. But I want it to be fun and enjoyable!
After reading your post last night, I got to thinking about my pushups. I've been doing fewer. Just kind of slacking in general. Been eating too much. But our blog motivated me! And I kept thinking about how hard you are working over there and how cool it is that you can run again!
So!
I had a really great run this morning. I did my 3 mile in 29:20. And then I decided to do one more! And my 4 mile time was 39:47. I often think (at the beginning of my run) "I just might do 4 today!" By the end of the run it no longer sounds like such a great plan! But today I decided to do it.
I'm working on getting back up to my 4 sets of 14 pushpus. Today I did 4 sets of 12. It was hard!
Then I ran at lunch today. Really nice day out today. Not too hot but just right where the sun felt delicious!
Been thinking of you! Excited to hear how it goes for you tomorrow. Did your leg feel fine throughout the day? Did you ice again after your run?

Back at it!
I had a good exercise and eating day today, so I feel pretty happy about that! Funny thing that I really feel like a couple of pounds really makes a difference now. And I've been slacking a bit on my pushups so I'm not as excited about my arms right now.

Good Morning
And good news! I ran on the treadmill for 20 minutes this morning and walked for another 10 and it felt fine and seems ok now. Did all the warm up exercises before I started and sitting on ice now just as a precaution but so far, so good. Plan to alternate that routine now every other day with the aerobic rider and walking for a couple weeks and see how it goes. Have a good day!

Mystery Run
Yep, forgot the watch again today! I just feel naked out there without it! I almost came back for it but decided against doing so.
I had a really good run, though. Or I thought I did! Which is good after my slow time on Tuesday and my sleeping in on Wednesday!
I did not run hills at lunch. I had to work! That does not happen often, as you know. I really make sure I get a break. It is very important mentally.
Oh, I also did pushups this morning. Still not back up to my usual. Getting there though.

I'm feeling better this morning so am very glad to report that. Still blowing the nose but, in general, feeling better so progress is being made. Did the whole routine this morning and seemed to go fine. The 10 minutes on the aerobic rider that nearly did me in on Monday seemed easy today. Partly getting use to it and partly not as sick as I was on Monday so that's all to the good, too. Hope you have a good day!

I had another one just like the other one......
Well, not quite just like the other one. For example, today I'm VERY sore!
It must be the hills. I was off of them the entire trip. Well, except the MASSIVE one when we ran the 5K! And today I'm just super extra sore!
I had a really slow run today - almost 31 minutes. It was 30:XX but I'm too lazy to get up and look at my watch! And I felt slow! I knew it while I was going.
Got back and did about 15 minutes of ab stuff.
Then I hit the hills at lunch!
Guess what?!? We had rain this morning! I didn't get rained on when I was out but there were puddles to be avoided and trees a-dripping! It was fun. Really pretty sky with the giant clouds against the darkness. And also pretty as it started to lighten up.
I am going to modify my morning routine a little bit. I am going to continue getting up at five but get my run going at 6:20 or 6:30. It is just so dark in the morning and, even though I run this route every day, I am just really afraid I'll miss a curb and take a tumble. Running in that kind of dark seems to make my gait unnatural, too. Like I'm holding my body as though I'm anticipating a fall.
Should not be a problem as I've not been on the road till 6:20 the last two days!!! We will just say I was testing the idea out! ;)

I'm back at it too! It felt good and I was glad to be back at it. Funny, I'm up 1.5 pounds but I feel lumpy!
I didn't want to get up at 5 today, but that is usual! I did, though. And I guess that is usual too! I had a pretty late start on my run. I didn't get out till 6:20. But that is OK - I was doing homework so I figured as long as I wasn't lallygagging and still ran, it was no biggie.
My run was 30:04 but I had to stop a couple of times and fiddle with my iPod. I did stop my watch but still the pre-stop piddling takes some time. So I was happy with my time.

Ok, we're back on track! Still blowing my nose constantly but feeling much better than I was last week. So, here's the routine for this week: 12 minutes of warm-up PT exercises, 10 minutes on the aerobic rider, 20 minutes walking, 15 pushups, 15 situps, 15 pushups, and 15 situps. At least that's what I did this morning! And, you know, I could feel it in my right hamstring! So, then I sat on ice while having breakfast. But I am going to do this all week and see how it goes. It felt good to be able to do this after being so sick.

I'm updating to tell you I've got no update! I had the coffee set to brew at 5 and my alarm set to go off at 5. And at 4:50 I woke up and turned them both off!! I just couldn't do it. I was worn out. We had great desert times though.
I'll see what tomorrow brings. We are leaving here at 9:30 or 10 and I might just sleep in again!

Hike Mania!
Well, darn did we hike today! No running, but who needs it!
We did the Hellhole Canyon hike this morning/afternoon. I bet we were out for 3 or 4 hours. It was 2.8 in, 2.8 out. It was pretty flat until the last .5 mile in or so. Honestly, if I had recalled how strenuous it was I would not have suggested the hike. Personally, though, I thought it was great! And very pretty. But there were a lot of boulders and rocks to scramble across.
We shall see what tomorrow brings. I think we will play it calm in the AM and then hit Salvation Mountain on the way home.

Running!
Angie and I ran this morning and it was great! I didn't bring my watch but she says it was under 30.
I love the smell of roses and there seemed to be a lot on our route this morning.
I may not post for a few days but if I can't I'll just save it up for when we get back. I know we will be hiking. I'm not sure about running though. Playing it by ear!

Slowness!
I had a slow run this morning - 30:31. I was not very focused and, to be honest, I didn't really enjoy my run. I think my thoughts were just all over the place and I was not really getting into my music or the beauty of the morning.
It was, however, DARN cold out!

Thought about going for a bike ride but only 39 out there when I was thinking about it so gave that thought up, too. Think my "outside" days are probably done for the year. Have a good day!

Great time on my home course this morning. And it was a good - but lonely - run. But I was ready to go, so I went. I know myself and the longer I wait the lazier I get. And, in fact, Angie was cooking us a brunch and we really were not even ready to get a move on until 12 or so.

Well, there is just something very motivating about an organized/group run! I was so happy with my time this morning.
The course was really challenging. I'm so glad I've been running hills. Both Angie and I decided we were better off not having checked out the course last night. Anticipation of that hill would have made things hard. Anticipation of the hill THREE TIMES??? Forget about it!
We rechecked the course web site today when we came home. Yep, they really advertised the course as "flat and fast!" Man! That hill must have been 1/4 mile! And steep, let me tell you.
Then we walked on Pacific Beach. Then we came home and I made dinner - with Mom's help. Because I was in charge we ate at 8:30! No shock there! We had some appetizers - melon wrapped in prosciutto and figs with roquefort. For dinner we had tomato soup and polenta grilled cheese sandwiches. I also made garlic bread - but I used a whole wheat peasant bread. And a little salad. It was good.
Really fun day but we are all tired. I'm showered up (again!) and about ready for bed.
Oh, when Bart left tonight, I walked him out to his truck. We saw a skunk crossing the street!

Fun Run!
Today was fun! We slept in a bit and then Angie and I went for a run! I had a good time, 29:38. Ang had to take a bit of a break at the 2.5 mile mark. I finished up and then thought I would run back to meet her. But she was darn close on my heels!
Did pushups upon my return.
Tomorrow is the 5K - can't wait! Well.....mostly I'm excited for the t-shirt!

Slow Times!
I could blame my slow run on lack of sleep. I went to bed at 12:30 and got up at 4, but I think it was the darkness. I was kind of worried about tripping so I was slow. My time was 30:07, which is still awesome, but a minute means a lot!
So, good run. I didn't run at lunch because I actually took a late lunch so I could leave early and pick up my car.
I will run tomorrow - hopefully with a date! I'll let you know though!

Tired!
I'm done working! Not at work, just life work. Actually I had a good night - I've just had a lot to do.
Ran this AM - 29:20. Did the pushups and such. Ran hills (and errands!!) at lunch. Then I had to work late because it is just so darn busy. So busy. Then I met Bart at the cages after work! That was really great. It has been too long since I've been and I could feel it. I'm glad tomorrow is not pushup day because my arms hurt tonight!
Then I did some grocery shopping things and then some cooking things and then I did some cleaning things. Now I'm doing go to sleep things!

Cooling down
It is really cooling off now. I realized at lunch today that this was the first time I actually enjoyed running hills in maybe two months. It just has not been fun and I've only done it out of habit. Today was really nice.
Good run this AM - nothing exotic or exciting happened so I have nothing exciting or exotic to report! I left late today - maybe at 6:15. I did get up at 5 though. I've been reading Poirot recently and that is mucking up my bed time!
I'm excited for company so I can have more exciting news to report.

Oh, sleep!
I sure had a night of tossing and turning last night. Until, oh, 4 AM I suppose! Then I slept like a rock! But I did get up at 5 and I had a really good run. One of those runs were it just felt good. So I'm glad I did it. My time was 29:24.
Did the usual pushups, lunges, squats. I did run hills at lunch.
While I was up two pounds today (of course!!) I feel like I'm falling into a comfortable zone with my weight/size. Like I am where I ought to be.

Weekend Update
I ran both Saturday and Sunday. My time Saturday was just over 30 - but I forgive myself as it was hot! I had school at 1 and needed to finish my presentation. That is why I was running in the heat.
Today I ran but I forgot my watch. So who knows! That's ok - it was fun and enjoyable.
My weight is really down right now, which seems weird based on what I've been eating. But I'm clocking in at 126.5 yesterday and today. Just need to keep it up! Or down, I mean!!

Slow Moving
But moving! I was tired and had another day where I didn't want to get up! But I did. And, as usual, I'm glad I did. My run was OK. I had a lot on my mind and just could not zone out. So I felt unfocused and sluggish.

It is late, but I really need to run tomorrow. Pizza was dinner tonight. I have a Luigi's by me now! Bart and I went. Two slices and a pop for $5.50! But I know how the scale feels about me eating anything other then lettuce! Bitter!
I'm actually picking up my car tomorrow - just took a little longer then he expected. So I'll run in the AM and then walk over to the shop, which is about 1 mile away.

Day Off Pay Off!
As you know, I did not run yesterday. This morning I had a great run! My time was 28:57!! I was really excited! I like hitting those 28s - although I think this is only the second time I've done it! Look at me, talking up "those 28s" like I'm an old pro!
Then I did some ab stuff. I'm trying to do a bit more of that and see if that helps the tummy. Although I do know that a lot of that will be resolved with a bit more weight loss.
Did hills at lunch. It was really nice to get out because it was busy. Again.
Hit my goal weight today! I need it to "stick" for at least a week before I will tell you "I made my goal" though!

Jumping!
Well, as you know, I decided to jump rope this morning. I went to bed waaay too late last night (midnight!). Even though I got up at 5, I was not happy about it!
So I did four sets of this:
100 jumps
14 pushups
20 squats
10 lunges
Pretty good. Then the normal hills at lunch.

Kicking and screaming
Just one of those mornings! I did not want to get up - in fact, I snoozed for 5 minutes. Almost stayed in bed until 6 or 6:30, but cooler heads prevailed (apparently I suffer from multiple personality disorder!) and then I did get up. And then we had to negotiate about running. I went out but taking that first step that transitions from walk to run was soooo hard!
But I'm glad I did it. Hard day at work today and a hard day at school, so it was necessary. And my time was good - 29:07. The did a bunch of ab stuff when I came back.
I ran hills late today - but I ran them. I didn't do lunch till 2.
Now I'm home and eating dinner - just some oatmeal. And back at it tomorrow!

It was a beautiful morning. So much cooler then it has been recently. Really enjoyable. Plus, I listened to Abba! That always makes for happy times.

Sunday Stuffs
Another busy day here, exercise wise anyway! I had a run this morning - over 30 minutes, but hey, it is the weekend!
Then my girlfriend, Anne, and I headed over to Coronado and took a walk. Leisurely but probably 4 miles round trip. And you know how that sand can be!
Healthy eating day here, too. Had a couple of opportunities to make bad choices today but I did well!

Good enough!
I did not want to get out of bed this morning! But I did. I just don't want to mess up my habit because getting up at 5 is unnatural. And if I stop I don't know if I'll start again!

OK, actually, I forgot my watch today. So it COULD have been 27! I was going to do an estimate based on my music, but I decided not to bother because seconds really do count.
I did get my a@$ handed to me by another runner this morning. And then I thought, "Well, I'm not 18, I'm not a man, and I'm not 6 feet tall!" And then I thought, "Wow, those are just excuses!!!" and I ran faster!

Don't trust the scale
The scale is our enemy! Today I weighed 3 pounds less then yesterday. My scale is out to get me! Actually, I suppose I'm getting all that "eating out salt" out of my system. Yeah, I just blamed salt rather then calories.
Good run this AM - 29:50. Pushups upon my return. Then hills at lunch. So, the usual!
I sure had a hard time getting up today. I actually snoozed. 5 AM came fast!
Do you like polenta? I'm making for the first time tonight. Fried in a little bit of olive oil, topped with sauteed tomatoes/garlic/pepper/balsamic/basil, and some prosciutto and mozzarella. Totally excited!!

My tough start
Well, I had a tough beginning today, too! My running time was pretty good - 29:42. But darn if I did not get a stomach cramp about half way through. I kept running because I figured it would just take me longer to get home if I didn't!! But, good time anyway.
Then the SAD news! Scale related! But I knew that was going to be the case. I ate so much over the weekend. All if it was with others, so at least it was social and not at home secret binging! And I know I'll get it back together. It is just frustrating when I sabotage myself like this!
I did run hills at lunch. It is SO much cooler today! I don't think that will last, but I enjoyed it today when I could!

Good Morning
I ran this morning! Did the two miles in 20.04. First time I've tried to run in 3 weeks I think. A little strain in the leg but not bad at all. Didn't think I would make it in the breathing department but just kept going and did it! How quickly we can get back out of shape if we don't keep it up. Also added 5 situps (so 25) and 5 pushups (2 sets of 15) so will see how that goes through the week. Weight has been holding steady the last 3 days at 48 lbs below my beginning weight and 7 lbs below my goal weight. So I must be at a new goal. We'll see how it goes this week.
And I was in new running shoes, too! How about that? We stopped at Penney's yesterday and I got another pair of Nike Airs. That's what I've been wearing to run/walk/bike now for a year and I like 'em so bought a new pair. Been going to do it for 2 months but finally got there to get them.
And, yes, my bike has those skinny tires and that's why I don't like the gravel. But I don't work as hard just going north 2 miles. Not enough hills that way!

This is short and sweet! Cause I'm worn out tonight.
I'm glad I ran four miles when the mood struck yesterday - cause I sure didn't feel like it this morning. Didn't feel like any of it, actually! But I did it. And my time was good - 29:28. Then just did some core stuff. Also I did run hills at lunch, but I should not have done. Too darn hot. Live and learn. Although I'm sure I'll do it again tomorrow!!

Woo Hoo!
First, it was so beautiful this morning! I actually really enjoy getting outside so early because it is just so darn pretty.
I also know that I ran right through an area where a skunk had been. YUCK!
Anyway, great run again today. My three mile was 29:17. I was having so much fun, though, that I decided to do four! And I'm pleased to report that my 4 mile time was 39:53! First time I've done that in under 40 minutes!
Then I did pushups, lunges, and squats - the usual. But I also did some calf lifts, and let me tell you, my butt was on FIRE!!
I didn't do hills at lunch. Too darn hot. And if I think it was too hot, you KNOW it was hot! I did dud up and go for about a 30 minute walk. Nothing strenuous. Just a reason to get out of the office.
Then I met Bart over at the cages after work. Boy, can I tell it has been forever since I've done that! I can already tell I'm going to be sore tomorrow. And I'm really glad tomorrow isn't a pushup day!!
I also know that I ran right through an area where a skunk had been. YUCK!
Anyway, great run again today. My three mile was 29:17. I was having so much fun, though, that I decided to do four! And I'm pleased to report that my 4 mile time was 39:53! First time I've done that in under 40 minutes!
Then I did pushups, lunges, and squats - the usual. But I also did some calf lifts, and let me tell you, my butt was on FIRE!!

Another good one!
I had another good showing this morning - 29:06! These last two days have been really great. Because I'm running so well and so hard. Really kind of pushing myself but in a way that feels good.
I came home and did some core exercises but I also did some ab stuff too today. I've gotten off track with that. I know that my stomach will show results with some additional weight loss, but maybe some ab work will help, too.
Ran hills at lunch. I'm getting bored with that so I might throw the cages back into the mix. It has been a while!

Ah....Sleep
You know, sleeping is such a great thing! I went to bed at 8:30 last night. And fell right asleep. And I slept all night through until 5 AM. Probably could have slept a little more even! But I just had such a great day and felt so good. I love sleep. I ought to get more!!
I had a great run this morning. 29:02! I KNOW! And then I added two more pushups to each set this morning so I did a total of 48. Yep, you are right - nobody should pick a fight with me! And then I ran hills at lunch. Mostly because I needed to get the heck out of dodge for a bit.
I was so hot and sweaty from hills and working in my 100% non-air conditioned office that I had to shower when I got home! It is so much cooler today then yesterday, but it is still darn hot!
Well, I think I'm beating this weight thing. Saturday I was below my goal weight, but I really think that was just due to the heat. In other words, yes, I think I am smarter then my scale and know better when I am weighing something "for real"! And I was right - I'm back up. Two pounds above goal. But I really feel like I'm getting there. Now, between you and me, after I make goal I can probably stand to lose another 5. Just flabby stomach stuff, if you know what I'm saying. It is there to be lost! But I'll probably just continue what I'm doing after I hit my goal, not cut calories or add exercise to make five more pounds. Talk about making life not worth living!!

This is getting weird. Didn't do anything yesterday morning because it was Sunday and my day off from exercise. However, Mom wanted to go for a walk after supper so we did almost 2 miles and my leg bothered me the whole time. Hadn't bothered me at all Saturday on the bike ride or the rest of the day. And didn't bother me yesterday until we started the walk.
So this morning when I got up I went for a 2 mile walk and it was just fine! Only difference was that I did the stretching exercises this morning and didn't last night before we went. Must be the difference. They are such simple exercises and not strenuous at all so hard to believe they matter but they must. Anxious now to see how the rest of the week goes. Am giving the walking/bike riding routine one more week. I wanted to try running this morning when it felt ok but resisted the temptation. But I really do want to get back to that. Don't get my heart rate up while walking at all and only occasionally on the bike when going up hills.

Holy smokes is it hot! Another hot one today, but not 104 like yesterday, I don't think. I did run this morning - at 9:30. It was already 75!

Good Morning
Almost afternoon! We slept until 8:00 this morning so very late start to the day. And I completely forgot about doing the pre icing business. Never crossed my mind. Went for a bike ride around the block which I now know is 4.1 miles. And cut 2 minutes off my time from the other day! 23.38. That is work, too, though! I always thought bike riding was easier than running but not so sure about that anymore. That hill coming up 150th Ave. nearly kills me! Doesn't look that steep but it's long. Made it without getting off the bike though. And that doesn't seem to bother the leg at all. Don't feel any strain at all like I do when walking or running.

Just made it!
29:59! Whew! I think I'm slowing down as I start the second mile. I don't know why. Maybe because it is easy and I'm taking a break?
I did 50 pushups this morning!!! Boy style! 5 sets with about 90 seconds between.
I am getting up at 5 tomorrow but I'm not running in the AM. I am getting up to study. My paper is DONE! Final tomorrow. I'm really ready to be done. Anyway, I'm going to run tomorrow - if it isn't killer hot again, that is. I could go to the beach although I suppose everyone in the world (or at least SD!) will be there!

Runnin
Last night I made an executive decision and I'm sticking to it!! I am doing homework at lunch today, so no hills. Because of this decision, I decided to run four miles this morning. To "make up" for my lunch. And, shockingly, I actually did it! Sometimes things sound GREAT at midnight and terrible at 6 AM.
My time this AM was 41:26. I want to re-calculate my 4 mile route, though. I'm wondering if it is a bit over. Or if it has been so long since I've done it that I over ran. Or that extra mile just plain really slows me down!! I do know that I was at 29:59 at 3 miles. Just made it! Whew!

Unanticipate Great Run!
I woke up feeling....well, not really cranky. But kind of. And then I got ready to go and was late (by 4 minutes!), and I noticed that my iPod was getting low on juice. Just....SIGH. So I went outside and saw the beautiful pink sky and my mood lifted right away. I was just really pleased to be outside and see such a pretty day! Saw all my "friends" when I was out this AM. And! I passed another runner! Taller then me too! And, no, I did not count out loud!
I felt pretty strong in my run this AM. Time was 29:41. Then I came back and did pushups, squats, and lunges.
I hate my scale! Up a half pound. No big deal, just really irritating because I have been working on weight LOSS, not weight GAIN!! I do need to figure something out for school nights. I have been eating something when I get home and I just don't like eating that late at night. I believe that calories are calories, and it does not really matter when I eat them. All the same.......just need to develop a different night habit for school nights.

Something New
I'm going to give AM posting a try. I can always edit to add hills or other stuff.
I had a great run this morning. Just right under the wire, let me tell you!! 29:59!
I didn't have to wear my safety vest today. Why? Cause I left super late!! 6:15! But I was dedicated to the run, so I did not let some lateness stop me. And I saw more runners this AM then I bet I have in the past month!! Three!
Such a beautiful morning here. But I think it is going to get hot! But I saw the big orange sun coming up so it was darn enjoyable. Fall is on the way though. It used to be practically full daylight when I would run at 6!

Raining here this morning so I walked on the treadmill instead of going for a bike ride. That will have to wait until tomorrow now. Leg bothered me the whole time on the mill, too, so don't know what's going on. Did the stretching exercises and then walked 31.11 and got to 2 miles. Then did my 15 pushups, 20 situps and another 10 pushups. Sitting on ice now. This is getting to be very old. Hope you have a good day.

Runnin
My run was a bit slower today - 30:17. All I can say in my defense is that I did not sleep a wink! I mostly ran on the road today because it was so darn early that I didn't want to play with the curbs. No skunks!
40 pushups today - boy style. I did them ten at at time with breaks for lunges and squats in between.
Then I did hills at lunch. And I ate healthy all day. So a good job. This is a boring post but I'm tired! Nite.

Good Morning
I ran today! Did the whole 2 miles but it wasn't easy. Haven't run it for a week and could sure feel it. Leg bothered me some but not painful. Just more like an ache. But that's the way it's been. So I did it today (in 19.36) and am planning to just get back to it every morning and see what happens. It's been very depressing to not be able to do it. Have ice on it now and going to PT pretty soon to see what they will say. I have done their exercises every morning and will continue that for this week at least. That's the news from here.

Evening Walk
Mom and I went for a brisk 2 mile walk after supper tonight! And it felt good to be doing it. I will see how the leg feels in the morning but if it feels like it does tonight I am going to try and run the same route and see how it goes. Have another PT appointment at 10 am tomorrow so would like to test it out before I go to that. I will report.

Well, I had a long day today but I did run. And I'm so glad I did. I didn't get out until 2 PM I guess. School and then work. But it is about ten degrees cooler then just a few weeks ago. Still hot, but not too bad. My time was over 30. Maybe 30:30~ But I'm sticking with my heat excuse!!
Major accomplishment for me today. I went to Henry's to get dinner making. And I was at that bad decision making level of hungry. And there it was. Chocolate pudding. It actually made it into my shopping sack! But I put it back. I didn't really want it. It was just habit and comfort. So, I worked on flexing my healthy eating muscles!

Same Ol!
Yep, another one just like the other one! Ran in the AM - too lazy to get up and get my watch, but it was under 30. 29 something or other. Then I did my girl pushups again (100 - 4 sets), squats, lunges. Ran hills at lunch.
I'm curious, did your appetite change when you started running? Not so much wanting to eat more vs. less, but the kind of things you want? I have been on a bread kick for several months now, and I've never been a giant lover before. Don't get me wrong, I have always liked bread. Now I'm loving it! Oh, and pudding. I love pudding!

No run this morning. I got up as usual and did all the exercises recommended yesterday by the physical therapist. Took me 22 minutes to do them! And when I was done my leg was more sore than when I began! Is it suppose to be that way? I don't know. I got on the treadmill but just couldn't do it. So, I don't know what I'll do here. Going back to PT on Friday morning so I guess I will do these exercises again tomorrow and Friday and see what happens. I will get up 15 minutes earlier tomorrow and see if I can still get at least a walk in after the exercises.

Day Off
Executive decision. I'm taking the morning off. I just popped my ear buds in and turned on my iPod. Well....tried. Tis dead. And I'm just not interested in running sans iPod today. Just not.

Edited to add: did it! Jumped rope and did pushups, squats, and lunges.
I've been challenged to 100 pushups - and I've accepted the challenge! But! The challenge is for 100 girl pushups. So today I did 100 but I broke them into 4 intervals. Sunday will be the day I do 100 girl pushups in a row. I actually do think I can do 100 without a break right now, but I want to practice a bit.

Good Morning
And good news! I did the 2 miles in under 20 this morning! 19.47. Best time since I hurt my leg. Still bothering me but I'm just running through it. I had no clue I was running faster today so was surprised to get home and see the time. Also surprised because I didn't leave the house until 8:00 and it was already 72 and very humid. So, feeling good about that. And I am down to my pre Montana weight so nothing but good news from here this morning. Hope you have a good day, too.

Today....
Was the day. Yup. 30:01. Sigh. Well, in my defense, I was working on 5 hours of sleep, less coffee then usual, AND I overslept!
For real - I overslept! My alarm went off at 5 and I turned it off and closed my eyes 'for just a sec!' Then I snapped out of it and it as 5:11! Anyway, I was really uninterested in getting up. I was also uninterested in running! ABBA tomorrow, for sure.
Kind of taking a break from 100 pushups. Today I did 4 sets of 10. I am going to keep that up for a bit and then get back into the program.

Hoo boy!
These are some loooong days I'm putting in! But it is interesting and worthwhile. And hard. It is really really hard!
I had a great run this AM. I was surprised because I felt sluggish. But my time was 29:38. You know how heartbreaking it is going to be on that day when I am over 30, right? Watch for the day with no time listed. That will be the day. Geesh! Why am I outing myself???

Noticeably absent these past few days - pushups! I'm soooo over it. And, honestly, I forgot yesterday. I'll have to figure out what I'm doing about those!

Started to feel some strain there with a 1/4 mile left to go but kept on plugging along. Think the worst is behind me now. Beautiful morning out there. 58 when I left the house. No wind. Perfect. Good Morning
Good morning! Guess you are having fun in the desert but I'm here slugging away! I used the treadmill again this morning because it was thundering, lightning, and raining when I was ready to go out. Walked for 16 minutes and ran for 17 minutes! And did fine. Leg feels ok even now so I'll have to see what the day brings but think it is finally healing. Hurray! Have fun in the desert! Hi to Bart.

Runnin
Well, I had another solid showing this morning! And I was pretty surprised. I felt slow. 29:26 was my time. I feel like I've really broken a barrier. I also ran hills at lunch and then took a little walk during break at school.
Here is the funny thing - my scale isn't changing much. I was at a low this AM but I bet I'll be back up a bit tomorrow. I've just noticed I'm hovering. But I have also noticed that changes seem to be happening. I think I am still losing fat. I have never been a huge believer in the theory that a person does not lose weight because they are gaining muscle, but maybe it is true. I word a dress today that I have not been able to even consider putting on for 10 years. Yeah, I have old clothes! But my point is that I don't know if I could have worn it a month ago even though I only weigh two pounds less - so sayeth the scale!
Pretty excited for desert times. I am not going to run though. It will be over 100! I'll run tomorrow AM and I suppose Sunday afternoon or evening. So one day off.

Freak Out!!
This is short and sweet (like me!! Yeah, I know - I stole that one!). I'm totally freaking out about Chemistry! Well, not about chemistry actually. But about the algebra required for chemistry! In fact, I sat through class thinking "I'm totally going to clean house!" and then he handed out the "how is your algebra" review. I've got some brushing up to do. I am going to make the nerds at work review with me tomorrow.

OTR
That is ON the record, not off! So. For the record, I'm hating 100 pushups. I reverted back to day one of week four today. Could hardly do it! Pretty frustrating.
I had a really good run this morning though. I am surprised because it was one of those days where I forced myself! And it was the first day since I got back from vacation that I snoozed! Otherwise I've gotten up at 5 - with my alarm - every day. Not today though.
Anyway, my time was 28:54. Woo hoo! And then I ran hills at lunch. So, back in the swing.

Walked for 31 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Could feel it in my leg some but it was manageable. Tried to run but couldn't do that. So, my new plan is to walk this week and just accept that. If I'm not able to run next week, I will have to pursue further medical advice I guess.

Walked for 31 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Could feel it in my leg some but it was manageable. Tried to run but couldn't do that. So, my new plan is to walk this week and just accept that. If I'm not able to run next week, I will have to pursue further medical advice I guess.

Exercise!
Of the brain! I did a lot of work tonight. I could practically smell my little grey cells burning! Thank goodness for OCD behavior. I have no idea why I decided to check the calendar tonight. Because I was positive the final was Sunday! Well, no harm done.
I jumped rope this morning! I tell you, that is crazy exercise. Five sets of 100, I think. In between, I did squats (ten/set) and worked on my pushups. And I did them. My sets were 16/18/13/13/20.
I've made a decision, though. I'm going to do week 4 over. It was just such a struggle. I did it but I want to build up more strength. So I will be doing 7 weeks to 100 pushups!

I'm glad.....
That today is over! Man, I was amazingly crabby. I could hardly even recognize myself. Just very crank, and very down. I know that part of it is that work has just become a place I dread. I also am working on about day 4 (I guess) of not sleeping. And that just breaks me after a few days. But I don't want to take a sleeping pill because they make me brain dead and I have some much homework. Also, I think I was just plain hungry! So, glad to be home. Glad to be going to bed soon.
Now, on to the good stuff!
I had such a great run today. The other day I decided that my new goal was to run 10 minute miles over four miles. Usually I slow down when I tack on that fourth mile. Anyway, I did four this morning and my time was 40:26! I was darn amazed! So I'll keep it up but maybe soon I'll need another new goal!
I didn't run hills today. Just didn't have it in me.

Well.....hello!

I had a great run this morning, let me tell you! Pretty sure it was due to your comment about my time to beat.
My morning run was accomplished in 28:31! That is the best time I've ever had on my home course! I just can't believe it! Felt great and I knew I would be under 30, but I didn't expect that time. Funny, I had someone try to stop me this morning - wanted to ask me a question, I guess. But I said "Sorry - I'm busy!" and kept going. Also, I don't feel any need to talk to random men at 6 AM. Go up to Adams Avenue. Seriously.
Ran hills at lunch. It is just so much cooler right now. Much more enjoyable.
Here is where I'm having a hard time - 100 pushups. Today was day 2 of week 4 and I really struggled. The sets were: 14/16/12/12/18. That last one just about broke me. I'm considering doing day 2 again on Friday and day 3 on Sunday. That will change my workout rotation, but I'm OK with that. I'm just thinking that one more day might be what I need to not really blow at 17 and 18 of the final set. Open to advice, though!

Another update
Well, darn if you guys didn't totally make my day! So nice to have you back!! I've been keeping up with the exercise but you will notice that I missed a day or two of posting.
Well, Monday I ran and it was under 30 - AGAIN!! And today, as well. Guess that just might be my new standard. It was funny that this morning I felt like I would be over 30 because I felt gummy. But I made it with about 15 seconds to spare!
Man, let me say again that these pushups are hard! But I'm keeping at em. Tomorrow will be day two of week four.
I ran hills yesterday and today at lunch. I'm thinking of adding a couple more to the mix. Or maybe I'll just work on speed a bit. Undecided.

Good Morning
Well, my leg is still bothering me so I am taking some days off here. I did run 4 of the 6 mornings on the farm and really enjoyed it out there. But I'm getting tired of limping around all day long. So, am hoping some rest will make it all better. Besides, it's hard to get a run in while traveling. We are in Dickinson, ND this morning.

Well, I've been slacking! Not on my exercise - but on my posting. It was just a really busy week this week and I have been extra worn out. So I let this lapse.
So, what have I been doing? The usual! And some unusual! Thursday I did a four mile run, but I paced myself a little slower. If memory serves, it was around 42 minutes for the entire thing. Then I did hills at lunch. Seems like it is cooling off a bit finally. Makes lunch hills better, that is for sure.
Friday I did something really different! Friday has become my day off, I guess. But I had to do my pushups. So I pulled my jump rope out of the closet and did 100 jumps in between each set. Let me tell you, jumping rope is about 1 million time harder then I thought!! I did do 100 between each set but I was so sweaty and out of breath! And my heart was just pounding. Much better exercise then I thought. And I am still sore today. My arms actually hurt. Not the pushup way, though. It is different so I know it is from jumping rope. I recommend it!
Today I ran in the AM. Before noon even! I know. Crazy. Who am I??? I actually ran around 9 so I did it before the heat of the day, although it was still humid.
So, that is the rundown.

Pushups
Man! Pushups are hard! I did day 2 of week three this morning and I really had troubles. I'm going to stick with the program until I hit a day I cannot complete. If and when that happens, I will go back a week. We shall see.
Another great run today. Under 30! Pretty consistent - three days in a row! What was really cool is that I felt really strong when I was running. I thought 'This is my goal. I have reached it right now! I'm strong!' It was great.

Yesterday I had a great run - my time was 29:41. Today's time was 29:55. Yesterday I ran hills. Today I did something different - I ran stairs! I thought it was pretty darn lame, actually. But no more. Just a few hours later and I am really really sore!

Good Morning
I don't normally run on Sundays, as you know, but I did today because I know I won't be doing it tomorrow while I'm on the train and I basically slacked off this whole past week since Monday. Anyway, I did the 2.5 miles on the treadmill again this morning. Could have gone outside but just didn't feel like it. It was 65 out there so not nearly as cool as yesterday when it was only 50! Leg bothered me some but I just kept going until I was done.
Will be packing today and watering flowers and garden. We're leaving the house about 9 pm so this will be my last Fitnatics post for 10 days! I'm going to miss you! I'll try to send an email once a day to let you know of my progress.

Saturday Stuffs
Well, naturally I waited for the hottest part of the day to run today! Well, maybe not the hottest. But it was darn hot! I went around 11. I was really excited because at my first watch checkpoint, I was on track to do 30 minutes! And it was hot but I figured I could finish strong.
Oh, sir, did I figure wrong! That last mile was agony!
But I did it. And I'll do it again tomorrow. My pushup schedule will be off next week because I need to see how many reps I can do tomorrow. That will determine how I train next week. But if I do pushups tomorrow I'll do the training on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday next week.
Big eating today! Lunch with girlfriends and then dinner with Bart's peeps for Mike's birthday.

I'm back on track! Did a full 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning so that's 2.5 miles. Felt some strain in the right leg (above the knee but on the back side of the leg) when I started out. Lasted for a few minutes but eased off and was fine after that. And I'm not limping! So, not sure what this is all about. Maybe just strained that muscle back there and needed some time to be ok again. Felt good to be doing the time! Have a good day.

Day Off
Well, this is the second Friday in a row I've taken off. That will be A-OK with me as long as I make it part of a real schedule - not just a prelude to a weekend of slack! So I plan to run tomorrow and Sunday. Just hopefully NOT when it is 90 out!

Worn!
Well, I do believe I'll take tomorrow as my freebe for sure! I'm tired. I've not slept well this week, and it is showing.
I did get up again and run this morning. I knew I was not going to push myself for speed, so I did 4 miles rather then 3. And I did them slow. I may have been able to push myself for more speed, but that was the deal I made before I left and I stuck with it.
I did end up running hills at lunch. I just needed to get out of the office, in all honesty. I also saw an amazing car accident. I was coming down the hill - in fact, I was just about to make my U turn and head back up the hill. And a guy at the stop sign apparently decided "oncoming traffic be damned!" and made his turn. Sadly for him, another car was currently occupying that space. I was so close I went over to each car and made sure they were OK. People do not joke about speed on that road! They were fine and all the busy bodies were already out so I went back to running my hills.
That was my excitement! Oh, I helped my friend decorate her cookies tonight. I only ate one, so no blowing it there. She fed me too. Meatloaf!

Under the wire!
OK, does 30:00 count??
I tried to go to the batting cages at lunch today but they were infested with YOUTH! Geesh! Don't they know that geezers want to hit? I was just totally not in the mood for hills, so I went back to the office and did homework! Exercise the brain!
I'm pretty school overwhelmed right now. I just have a lot going on and it is taking me away from homework! Like....work! And tomorrow I'm helping a friend with cookies for her daughter's baby shower. So, yes, I'm taking human interaction over homework. Who am I??
My point is that I'm going to do a four mile run in the AM and just study through lunch. I'll miss shaking a leg at lunch, but that is OK now and then. I'll just make up for it in the AM!

Oh yeah!
I did it again! Two days in a row! Pretty exciting.
Beautiful morning here today. Nice and cool. I extra appreciated this fact since I knew it was going to be on fire later! Again!
I did those "core" exercises I emailed to you guys. They seemed pretty easy. I'll keep em up for a few days, though, and see if they have any impact.
I did run hills at lunch. I sure could tell it has been a few days since I've done that! As in, it felt good!
I've been upping my meat intake in the hopes that it will have an impact on my energy level. I think it may be helping. I've been getting more calcium, too, and that helps with a lot of things - including, believe it or not, mood! I'm trying to be less cranky. I am POSITIVE it is working. If it isn't, don't tell me darn it!!! I don't want to know!

No running for me this morning. Knee is still bothering me but not nearly as bad as yesterday so am thinking I just need to take it easy here a couple of days. Woke up at 6:00, looked at the clock, thought about the knee, rolled over, ....and didn't look at the clock again until 8:20!!! I can't remember the last time I was in bed that late in the day. Knee felt pretty good when I first got up but seems to be bothering more now that I'm moving around.

Woo Hoo!!
Well, I've blabbed my news already! But I'm so excited that I did my run under 30 here! I know I've done it in Wisconsin, but there was just something about doing it on my home course with only internal motivation that made this great!
My time was 29:56:41. The new time to beat!
I didn't run hills at lunch because it is freaking HOT out! This will last for a bit. I'll continue to bring my gym gear, but I won't force myself out there if it is too hot.

Another beautiful morning here and it was not 87 when I ran! Only about 68. Gorgeous. Took our friend Billy Joel with me today. Did my 2 miles in 18:44 but starting to feel it a little in my right knee so wonder what's going on there. I felt it some on Saturday, too, and think I may have twisted it a little running in the field on Friday morning. Won't be doing that again. Too uneven out there. Good for walking but not for running I think.

87!
I'm glad I did it but, man, am I glad I'm done! It is 87 outside - in the sun. Of course, in San Diego it is ALL in the sun! I had about .5 of a mile to go and I thought "Shoot. I really should not be running anymore it is soooo freaking hot and I'm so thirsty!" But then I realized that I would have to WALK back and heaven forbid I do something so time consuming as walk!
I was at my garden for about two hours today. About 45 minutes of that was our meeting where I just sat and wished I was elsewhere! I think a lot of the people take it as an opportunity to visit. And there is some political drama of course. Well, it is necessary. And it is done for another month! I think that the guidelines say I only have to attend 3 out of every 6 meetings. I'm going to check on that!
So far I have only accomplished one statistics problem since I've been home from my run. That's OK - I will get it done today, I'm positive. 100% positive.

Good morning. Angie and I ran the Fitnatics route this morning and she beat the pants off me today! I don't know what my time is either because I must have pushed a button on the watch somehow in the last mile. I know I was at 19.53 at the 2 mile mark but after that I don't know. It's hard for both of us to believe that it was only a week ago that we had our 1st annual run! Seems like a month ago.

Day Off
I usually do not allow myself to make decisions while I'm still in bed, but I sure did it today. I was just worn out and I've worked out hard all week so I didn't run this AM. I did get up at 5 though!
Getting up at 5 is really working well for me. I'm accomplishing a lot.
Also, I did day 3 of 100 pushups. I'm on my way!
Goal for the weekend is to run both Saturday and Sunday. One day at the beach, if I can swing it. It just depends on how much energy I have. Hey, I'm old!

Whew!
So, I gave myself a very serious talking to last night and I could really tell the difference in my attitude today. It went a lot better because I just didn't let work bother me as much.
I got up at 5 again today and my morning really went the way I have been planing! It is just taking practice to get into the groove. I had a really good run (30:18) and also studied for about an hour and a half.
Did the ol hills at lunch. It was busy out there today. Must be that exercising is the thing to do! We are soooo ahead of the curve!
Gardened a bit tonight. Only about 30 minutes, but it was good to get outside.
And now it is possible I'm going to bed. I'm tired and doing nothing functional related to homework.

i did the 5k thing with mom today and tomorrow im going to summer stretch and doing a push up thing withmom and dad on the 19 im going to montana for a week and stuff so i will not talk a lot like i always do.......haha :)

Yes, I drank white milk again today. Yes, it made me gag again today. No, that is not why you should be sitting down to read this post. I weighed myself today and I weigh my pre-vacation weight! How the heck is that even possible??? With everything I ate I thought I would be up at least 5 pounds. Amazing!
I ran the usual 3 miles this morning. But I'm slowing down! It took me 30:08 this morning! Then I ran hills at lunch. I think a guy driving past me almost passed out when he asked me how many I do and I told him 7!
Got up at 5 again this AM. This will really work out well if I can keep it up.
Pretty good eating day today - I had a very small handful of corn chips that I am trying to make myself feel guilty about....but I don't really!

Lead Shoes
This morning I woke and had a delicious cup of coffee! I strapped on my lead shoes and took off for a 2.4 mile run. I ran pretty slow down the hills and then my legs woke up and my shoes turned to feathers...I powered back up and LOVED every minute of it! Yay!

This morning.....I drank MILK! WHITE MILK! It was as disgusting as anticipated! So...I won't try that again! I was attempting to add some nutrients to my life. I guess I will just have to deal!
I did successfully get up at 5 this morning. Strangely, it really was not as easy as I thought! But I did it and I did get solid studying in. I'll try it again tomorrow.
I had a great run this morning. 30:07! No 5k time, but still darn good. I'm also working on 100 pushups in 6 weeks. I started today. I guess we will talk in 6 weeks!
I did run hills at lunch. Funny, it seemed really easy. I wonder why???!!!

It's a new week and I'm up and at it. Ran a two mile route this morning in 19.10. Went south on 180th, then east on 140th. Like the route generally but HATE the hill coming home! But have decided to vary my route some so this will be in the mix now. Also did 20 pushups and 20 situps when I got home. Took Abba with me today and enjoyed them so thanks for that. I'm clean!
I didn't run today. And I ate a lot of food! But I'm back in SD now and I went to the grocery store to stock up on healthy food for the week. So I'm all set to make a comeback!

Ahh-mazing!
Today was such fun! Thanks for all the motivation! So, when I ran the City of Trails of 5K my time was 30:13 and today my time was 29:53. All UPHILL! Thanks Dad!

That was fun! My time was 28.42 which is also my best time ever. Remarkable for such an old man! But the amazing thing is that I really enjoyed it! Thank you for organizing this 5K run!

Best Time!
I'm really am pleased with my running time the last two days. Especially today! I was under 30 minutes AND I ran alone! Yesterday when I ran with Angie I figured I was just motivated by running with a partner. Today it was just me! Yay!
It is so enjoyable to out here. I just love the trees. The flowers. The lack of skunks. The dead fish smell. The list goes on and on!
Tomorrow is our big day and I cannot wait! Good luck to both of us! As if we need to rely on luck.........we have our practice to rely on!

Good Morning
Well, let's get back to this! Now, that our trip to Virginia is over and we're getting ready for the big run on Saturday. I did the 3 miles this morning in only 29.30! I can't believe it either. All time best record for me. I did, however, gain 1.8 lbs while on vacation so will need to work on that end of things some. Feels good to be home, though, and back in my routine.

Wisonsin!
Ran two miles today and walked one. With Ang!! Super cool. And then we went to the lake any played in the water and had a lot of fun. I'm worn out, let me tell you.
Weight is good. Eating is good. I was hungry before bed and had a few nuts. Cause I'm staying with nuts!

I had a good run this morning. My time was about the same as usual, but it felt really good if you know what I mean!
I'm still in that 31:30 time for three miles. Hopefully I'll get motivated when I hook up with my running partner! That's you, by the way!
I did hills at lunch. It was hard because work was so busy, but I still left and took a break. I just want to make sure that I don't fall into a rut of skipping exercise because I'm too busy, whether it is too busy with work or too busy with school.

Doing it!
Before I go all crazy and try getting up at 5, I am going to try something better! Going to bed at midnight! I figure that I don't sleep when I go to bed and I hate getting up when my alarm goes off. I'm going to try and use that to my advantage. I'll let you know how totally dumb this idea is in tomorrows episode!
Good run this morning - it has been so cloudy, but no rain. Anyway, good run even though I had to wear my old school shoes!

Gravity
Was it just me or did gravity change today? I pretty sure that it was running parallel to the earth....and that I was running against it!
I really had a tough time today and had to constantly motivate myself! It was difficult not to take a break today. Especially this morning - it just finished raining so I had an excuse.
I did it though. Had decent time for a painful run. Did hills at lunch. Had to talk myself into doing all 7 repetitions though!
I can't believe it, but I ate healthfully all day too. It was difficult. I really thought of eating the food in our lunch room - but I didn't. I just at my healthy food that I brought - worms and all!
I forgot my gym bag at work! First time that has happened! Thankfully I have a pair of old running shoes here so GAME ON!

Oh, so lazy! Can't even get up and mosey over to my watch!
But I had a good run this morning and did some solid pushups after. I ran hills at lunch- I lost count though! I know for a fact I did 7 but I may have done 8. Let's go with 8!
Solid eating day as well, but I'm brussleS bitter! I picket some up at the FM on Sunday and they were full of little worms! Very gross and very bitter. Well, I'm bitter. I don't know about the worms...I didn't eat them! Actually I trimmed them down as much as I could and I think I was successful in avoiding worms when cooking. I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow at lunch!
I'm considering making a major change. I am thinking of getting up at 5 rather then 6. Yep, I know. Also gross and bitter! But I'm so worn at night and I just don't feel like I'm retaining as much, study wise. Well, I'm contemplating. Not dedicated!

Good morning. Day off today so didn't get out of bed until 7. Was awake at 5 to 6 but refused to get up that early on Monday! Ran 2 miles this morning but took a different route. Went south on 180th to 140th and then east from there. Only problem is that hill on 180th coming back home! But I did it. We'll have to discuss our race route when you get here. I've been thinking north on 180th all this time and that's where I've put a stake at the 1.5 mile mark but there might be some other way. We'll take a drive next weekend when you're here. "Next weekend"...I like the sound of that!

Weekend
This is a super quick update. I had a good weekend but was so busy yesterday that I didn't run. Today I did though and it was good.
I did not intend to run today, actually. But I was at home feeling really anxious so I decided to burn off some energy. And it worked! I felt so much better when I got back!
Back to it full force tomorrow.
