Adios, 2015!

I walked out 2015! Just didn't have the energy to run today but I wanted to do something on the last day of the year. So I spent 30 minutes on the treadmill. Started at a 3 incline and ended at 4. I didn't walk super fast, but it was good enough to get my blood moving! Goodbye, 2015! You were a good year!

I'm so behind!

I've been so slacking on posting! But I have been exercising, as you know! Today I ran 20 minutes, at a 5 pace. 10 minutes at a 2% incline and 10 minutes at 3%. And more tomorrow!

TM is busy this week!

With 3 of us using it nearly every day the old TM is really getting a good workout this week!  Glad to see that it's working so well.

I've been doing my usual 2 miles plus pushups and situps.

What a run!

I love your treadmill! Really solid piece of equipment! As you know, I did a 30 minute run today at the Deloach Gym. I ran at a pace of 5. I did 2 minutes at a 3% incline, 2 at 4%, 2 at 5%, then back down and back up again. It was good - challenging. But the 5% would be done by the time I started thinking "What the heck am I doing!?" Thanks for the setup!

Brrrr!

Little bit chilly when I left for my run this afternoon! I was comfortable by the time I got back here but not warm, that's for sure. Busy day at work and then I ran errands so I didn't get to run until after 3. It was good though and my muscles are twitching now! Bart gave me a fitbit for Christmas! It has been super fun to have. I didn't wear it when running though, because I want to keep my everyday walking separate from my running. At least for now. I have only walked like 2000 steps today! 6000 Sunday and 5000 yesterday. It's been eye opening! See you tomorrow!!

Adios, Gym!

I had a good visit to the gym today after work. Did all the usual stuff and I also did 15 minutes on The Stairway to Hell, which I haven't done for awhile. That felt good. It was pretty busy there today, but I got all my stuff done and didn't have to wait. I think that I'll switch between treadmill / floor exercises when I'm at your house. I'll do pushups, squats, lunges, and abs. Sounds like we might be running outside!

I did run on the TM both yesterday and today and did some pushups and situps, too.  I should have gone outside this morning.  It was 40 at 6:30 am!  Very mild.  But I went downstairs instead.

Work has been really busy and chaotic. I didn't get any running done yesterday! Today I did run, though. Push to production tonight (maybe....) so I won't be up to much tomorrow! Good run today, though. Really nice out and my time is not good but a tiny bit better. It for sure isn't worse!

Texas x 2

How long has it been since you've seen that as a title?! It's been so long. I don't know why I got the tickle to do it today, but I did. And it was hard! Not gonna be a big girl and say 'challenging' or 'difficult'. It was HARD! But, on the plus side, on my first trip up (at about 1/2 way) I thought, "Well, I'm only going to be able to do this once." But, in fact, I did it twice. So that was great! I've been searching all over for a picture of an old fire truck I saw today. It looked kinda Model A/T-ish, but it had a closed top. And it had silver pipes attached to the side. It was super neat looking. I tried to weigh myself again today but I just need to get a new scale, sadly. Or maybe that's good! But it just doesn't work. Oh, catch up: I ran on Thursday and went to the gym yesterday.

Streak Comes To An End

I have been running every morning this week and doing well.  So I packed my stuff and planned to run here, too, on their brand new treadmill that I was told about the other day.  However, when I arrived I see the new treadmill laying on the basement floor still mostly in its box!  Guess I won't be running now until I am home again on Tuesday morning.  I will see what the temperature is in the morning but I didn't bring my long pants or long sleeve running clothes so it'll have to be pretty warm!

Gym times!

Good gym visit today. Busy there, though. I'm sure they're all the same people who always go but our schedules just don't always align. They probably saw me and thought, "Who's this lady using my machine?!!" Lots of squats and lunges today. I'll feel those tomorrow, for sure. No snow here for cross training, but it sure feels cold. I say "feels" because I know it isn't actually cold! I've got to emotionally prepare myself for real deal cold here soon!!

Cross Training

We had about 3 inches of the wet, heavy stuff overnight so I cross trained this morning by shoveling it!  Glad it wasn't more.

Slow run

Probably I should have taken the day off. Do you ever run on a day when you know full well that you ought to be taking a break? That was today for me. Gym sore and I didn't sleep well last night. I suppose I am on long weekend time and that does not mean going to bed at 9 pm! But I did it and that's that. Slow and plodding is how I felt. Ah well. That's how it is. I might do a weigh in tomorrow. Maybe! I'm feeling a little brave about it.

Gym Day!

I did it! Got back to the gym. Didn't want to but was so glad I did (yep, I've said it before, you've heard it before!). It was very busy there today but I got all my exercises done. They were playing 80s rap, so that was fun. I felt like a trembling fawn when I left. I know I'll be feeling it tomorrow! I did run yesterday. It was ok. It's so much cooler out, which is great (cooler = 70) but really dry. I won't wait till so late in the day to run tomorrow. I felt weird today but I think that's because I've been eating holiday style. Time to get back on track. For a little bit, at least!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - in Kensington! I did go for a run this morning (thanks for the inspiration!) and saw that my Kensington neighbors are doing Christmas decoration prep. They'll be ready in no time! Good run - have about another minute off my time here so I'm finally in the 11s again! I averaged about 11m 15s miles, by my estimate. Since I broke my garmin (yeah...that happened), I have just been using the timer on my phone. It's a lot cooler now and I actually ran in a long sleeve shirt today. We had rain this evening. Not a lot, but still fun!

Dash & Dine 5K

Well, I finished ahead of the walkers.  And I don't just mean those who were walking.  I mean those who were using walkers.  But I finished!  And got a t-shirt!  Now, where's that turkey?

Stiff and Sore!

I also hadn't lifted my 10 lb weights in a long time until yesterday again and, oh my, I can feel it across my chest today!  But I did it again anyway along with a 2 miler and the 50 reps again on pushups and situps.  Really feeling it now though.

Now they are calling for snow flurries for tomorrow morning, too!  Could be an interesting run!

Another Run!

I decided to run today because we're doing our production release so I'll be up at 1:30 am tomorrow. Maybe I'll have just enough energy to gym. Maybe. We'll see. But I know I won't feeling like running. And it was a really nice day for it. Good outing even though it was a bit later in the day. Still cool enough. And I was able to listen to my audiobook, always a win!

Upping my Game

Ran a full 2 miles on the TM this morning and then did 50 pushups and 50 situps (2 reps of 25 each)!  We'll see how stiff and sore I feel tomorrow!

I'm sore!

I sure can feel the gym today. Funny, but I didn't really feel sore in my legs until after I ran. Then I felt stiffness! Good run today, Kensington route. You asked me recently if I was still doing Kensington and I cannot recall if I answered. But, yes, I still run that route. It's cooler today (yay!) but still pretty dry. Misty tonight, though, so maybe that is going to change for tomorrow. We'll see!

Yesterday and Today

It rained here all day Tuesday and into the night but when we got up yesterday the sun was shining and it was 55!  So I went for a walk outside.  Windy but not too bad and nice to be in the sunshine.  A couple hours later the clouds came back and rain started again while the temps dropped.  This morning it was only 25 out there!!  So I ran on the TM today and that's my future now I am sure.

Another Run

Someday I'll go back to the gym. But that day was not today and it is also not tomorrow! But I did run today and that's good. Pretty nice out. Little more humidity in the air today which feels good. Super tired tonight and I'm really looking forward to going to bed. Soon.

Back on the Road!

As you know, I took a few days off. But I got back out there today and had a good run. It was late in the day so I was all alone. Well, no other runners! Anyway, good run. Getting ready for Suzy to come over tonight. We're having a musical interlude.

Making Progress

I'm not nearly as stiff and sore today as I was just a couple days ago so feel that I'm making some progress.  Did the TM and exercises again today.  Now, if I could just lose a few pounds I know I would feel so much better.  But how to do that when your mother keeps cooking?

Started with a light rain yesterday and still here today and even tomorrow they are saying.  Firepit is full of water again so must have had good rain during the night.  We're getting heavy showers for 15-20 minutes and then just drizzle in between.

Sorry you are so tired but I do know how that feels!

I ran!

Didn't really want to, though! But I had a massage tonight and I suspect I'll want to take it easy tomorrow. We shall see! Anyway, I ran. And it was cool again but really dry. I am glad the heat is gone but I sure miss the humidity!

I Did Something!

I got on the TM this morning and did 1.5 miles!  Then I did 25 pushups and 25 situps.  All of it felt like I hadn't done a thing forever.  And I haven't!  But felt good to do it today and plan to keep it up.

And Gym!

I went to the gym a little before noon today and that is apparently the time to go! Ghost town! Got my weightlifting done and I also ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes. You would not believe the drama and angst my book people are being subjected to right now! I cannot believe I forgot to tell you that I thought I lost my sunglasses! You know, the awesome running sunglasses you gave me for Christmas one year? I've had them a long time! Well, I accidently wore them as regular sunglasses last weekend. And I try to never do that because I know if I use them for every day, I'll lose them! Well, after last weekend I couldn't find them anywhere! Just....deep sigh. That thing I knew would happen - it happened. Yesterday, though, I decided to look behind my entertainment center and, sure enough, they were back there on the floor. Guess I didn't know my own strength when I put them away and they feel back there. But I was super happy to have found them!

Gym Times

I'm feeling so excellent this afternoon and evening. Probably because I spent money on going to the doctor finally just to be told, as usual, that I am absolutely fine! I did go to the gym this afternoon. Did my usual weights. I heard one of my pals correct the lifting posture of some random guy today. Which....I know he's helping. And that's good. But that happened to me once years ago and it made me SO uncomfortable. Like...am I doing everything wrong? Is everyone watching me? So this is clearly something I need to contemplate and meditate. Because it's actually a good thing for someone to want to help. Right?! Yes. I've got to work on this. I'm very wrapped up in the need to not be seen making mistakes and that's impossible because I'm a human being! So I tell myself. Anyway! I did weights. And I also ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes. I did hills at a 5.5 pace. One minute of hills, one minute flat. I figured that was kind of like that workout we read about. And of course I cannot remember the name!

Back in business!

I woke up with such a bad headache on Friday. It was very sad. So I didn't do anything on Friday or Saturday. Feeling way better today though so I did go to the gym. No cardio. Can't figure out about the headache. From my food journal, I see the last one I had was on October 13th. I did have a common food the night before each one. Which normally would make me say, "That's it!!" But it was brussels sprouts from a local store and I only had about 1/2 cup. So.....I mean, what would someone put in brussels that would do that? So I think it's something else. Who knows what. Weather maybe.

On Sabbatical

I guess I'm on sabbatical until we get home now.  Don't like it but that's the way it is.

Run!

I'm sore! Yesterday I did lunges and squats and I can really feel it. I did run today though. Not my best showing. But I wanted to get out and about so I did. I've been listening to a fun book, so that made it enjoyable. So much cooler here right now. In fact, I used my seat heater tonight! I meant to tell you the gym was so busy yesterday!

200% Humidity!

And I went out there and ran 1.25 miles in it this morning.  Terrible.  Felt like I couldn't get a good breath.  Had to walk some in the middle.  Temp was about 75 but the humidity.....

Gym Day

I ended up not running or going to the gym yesterday. Enjoyed a day off. And I also enjoyed an amazing thunder and lightening and rain storm here! I stayed up until almost 11:30 listening to it. So wonderful and fun. And I saw a picture perfect rainbow as I was driving home from work yesterday. In fact, it was on the front page of the paper today so I wasn't the only one who thought it was picture perfect! Gym today. Just weight lifting, no cardio. But I do plan on running tomorrow. Maybe. I'm feeling so old!

Morning Walk

I was so stiff this morning that I opted for a walk instead of a run.  I suppose from being in the Gulf yesterday and playing in those waves which I loved but am paying for this morning.  Mom went with me and we walked a half mile down the beach and back.  Another gorgeous morning here.  Saw a man who appeared older than me running a very fast pace for a very long time.  He passed us twice and he never let up.  I watched him for a long time.  I was impressed.

So.....lunges work!

Whoa, is my butt sore!  I can really feel those lunges that I did at they gym yesterday.  I think I'll start splitting between lunges and squats at each gym visit. 

But I wasn't too sort to run!  Did three miles today, the usual route.  Kensington is already getting cleaned up from their Halloween festival. 

Good run, my time is about a minute down in total.  I haven't done that treadmill hill run in awhile, so I will do that again soon here.

Surprise! Another Post!

Well, here I am again!  Two days in a row.  Today I went to the gym.  And I actually drove over there twice.  I figured that everyone would be at home this morning because the Chargers were playing at 10 am.  So I went to the gym around 10:20 and it was packed!  Well, the parking area was!  I decided that I would run a couple of errands and head back over to the gym later.  So that's exactly what I did.  I got there around 2 or so and there were 5 people at the gym.  Including me and the worker! 

Today I did lunges so we'll see how those feel on me tomorrow.

I also went for a walk today.  I wanted to go to Villainous Lair and I think that's about a 1 mile walk each way.  It's over by the post office on Adams.  Anyway, they were closed for some maintenance work today.  Which was totally sad!  I checked their hour online before I went but it didn't list a one off.  Makes me wonder if they had some kind of emergency in the building because I bet a retail place dislikes being close on a Sunday. 

But it was a walk all the same.  Oh, I did walk over to that area yesterday, too.  I went to Dark Horse to get some coffee.

Although today's report is a day off!  But I did go to the gym yesterday and I can really feel it. Especially in my legs. Gym again tomorrow!

I ran!

Well, things are finally cooling down here. Thank goodness! Maybe the high was between 80 and 85. Better than 100+! I did run today. Finally getting back to normal after that early morning. Pace was better than it has been, so that's happy. Not much to report - didn't see anyone out and about. Well, I saw some people gardening. Oh, I have this to report. Kensington is 100% ready for Halloween!

Outside, Hilly Run

Wow.  It's a lot "hillier" here when you're on foot than when you're in a car!  But I ran a good 1.5 miles out there this morning in a cool mist.  Not rain, just mist.  But it felt good to do something and be out there in spite of the hills.

Another Hotel Run

I did it this morning first thing but forgot to post it.  Ran 1.5 miles on the TM.  This fitness center is on the 3rd floor.  Never been to one that wasn't on the ground floor.  The whole time I'm running I'm wondering who was in room 225 and what did they think was going on above them!  Then we did a lot of walking today touring around.  But we also did a lot of sitting because we got caught in Tennessee Titans home bound traffic after their game.  What a mess!

Hotel Run

We drove about  6 hours today and digested the news about Joshua along the way.  Very stressful drive around St. Louis, MO.  Traffic worse than SD!  So when we got to the hotel I did go down to the fitness center and ran 1.25 miles.  Room was very warm and that's all I could muster but it felt good to do that much.  Great stress reliever.

Ready for a day off

I'm tired! I did run today but it was uninspired and unimpressive! I do need a day off but I'm aiming for Wednesday. So I'll gym tomorrow, because weights is easier for me to do even when I'm tired.

Outside Again!

I really wasn't expecting to do another outside run until we are south somewhere but it was 51 this morning and very light wind so I did it.  Wore long pants and two shirts!  But it was actually very pleasant.

More exercise later today.  I'm washing windows!

Yesterday's Update

I forgot to post yesterday! Not much to say - gym day. Did weights and no cardio. Just wasn't feeling that. I did a couple new things and did not do the thing that I think is making my shoulder sore.

Did it!

Even though I really didn't want to! I finally dragged myself to the gym. And even when I got on the treadmill I said to myself, "I could just leave right now....." But I started. And I finished! Did that same hill routine again of 5 pace and level 5. I think next time I do that I'll do 5.1 pace. Just keep bumping it up one. Way less stiff today.

I'm smartin!

I am really stiff today from something I did at the gym Not sure what, because I only did "the usual". Well.....I also ran today. Overkill. But I took yesterday off and I had such a frustrating time the last couple of days that I just needed to get out and run. So I did and then I gymmed. maybe it was just too much. Finally cooler today. I hope I can sleep tonight, it's been too hot.

Good Run

I have been off for a couple days.  Well, Wednesday because of that flight over the valley and yesterday I did do a long walk on the TM but didn't run.

Today, however, I did run (on the TM - only 31 out there this morning!) and it went well.  Have just been doing 1.5 miles and think I'm ready to go back to 2.  Also did my exercises.

Busy day at the gym! I got everything done but couldn't do my exercises in the exact uptight obsessive order I always do! It all worked out. No cardio today, though. Just wasn't feeling it. So now I'm home. Sweating. Better clean up!

Interesting day at the gym!

It was hot again today! Not as hot. But hot. I did run, but I went to the gym to do it. And it was interesting because I used the hills setting. So I did a pace of 5/mile and my "level" (hardness, I guess?) was 5. And it was flat for 1 minute, a hill for one minute. And continued like that. The highest hill was 4.7% incline. Which I would have been able to maintain for any real duration but it was only a minute so that was doable. I liked it and I'm going to do it again! Hopefully this will help with my pace.

Little Gym

Took me awhile to work up to it, but I finally got to the gym today. But I didn't do much. I did one of my exercises and, when I got up, I actually thought I was going to faint! I had to sit down. So I wrapped it up. I'm not one of those people who believes in exercising till I'm sick. And I didn't do that much - or anything unusual or different. It was just too darn hot today! Sadly, more of the same tomorrow.

What a Gorgeous Morning in Wisconsin!

It was 55 when I left the house and 61 when I got back.  Full sunshine, very light breeze, some spectacular trees along the way (but not many).  And they are saying this is our last hurrah because a cold front is coming in tonight.  The high tomorrow will only be 60 but today supposed to get to 80.  So how could I resist?  I couldn't.  Did a nice 1.6 mile run and felt good.  Pace was 10:34.  Just perfect day out there.  This afternoon Mom and I are going to Interstate Park and hike around the lake just to enjoy this summer day.

Good gym on a weird day!

Today was weird! I was up pretty late testing last night and was going to make today a short day. But then we decided to do a hotfix tonight so I had to run automation on preview before we push to production. And I'll get up at 1 am to run automation on Production. So I went to the gym around 10:30. I've not gone at that time - well during the week. And it's different. Lot's of people. And I kept thinking, "Why aren't you at work?!" but they were probably thinking that about me, too! I did get my weightlifting in. No cardio today, though.

Inside Run

Only 42 out there this morning and some wind so I opted for the TM and it went well.  Also the exercises.  I'm about due for a day off, too, so will see what tomorrow brings.

Well, it was +52 and no wind at all.  Cloudy but very nice out there.  Ran 1.6 miles and felt good.  Also keeping up with the pushups and situps although I'm only doing 25 of each right now.

Gym Times!

Made it to the gym today. As per usual, didn't want to go. Was so glad once I was there! That's just the way of it, I think. Did my weightlifting routine "B". Then I ran for 10 minutes on the treadmill. Just 10 minutes at a pace of 5.0 and an incline of 1. I thought of doing faster/longer, but I want to ease into my pace upping. Not break myself on Day 1! I ran on Saturday but took Sunday off.

Another TM Run

Although it was +45 this morning I opted for the warmer basement and another TM run.  Call me chicken if you want.  I call me "warm."

We LOVED The Martian!!  Might even go see it again with Angie and seeing a movie twice is unheard of in my world.

For today, we are off to Duluth.

TM Run This Morning

I got on the TM this morning and got back to it.  Did a strong 1.5 miles and then some pushups and situps.  I kept thinking about the Twin Cities Marathon which is running right now this morning!  And the Whistlestop next Saturday which I wish I could do again but gave up on long ago.  My foot continues to feel ok and I want to do another half so I'm not going to be shy about going back for injections when I need them.

Gym Day!

Friday gym day! All kinds of people at the gym that I've never seen before. It was neat! I did my "routine A" so that was all good. Then I did 15 minutes of cardio. Yesterday was a day off for me. I didn't go to bed until 10:30 on Wednesday night and then I woke up at 4:15 Thursday morning. Gross, I know! Anyway, I was just so tired. No energy so I didn't make myself suffer through a run.

Stuff!

I feel like I didn't post yesterday. What a slacker! I did go to the gym after work. It was a really busy day. After the gym I began moving all my belongings from the courtyard into my place. Huge project. But it is done. I ran today. So slow, Dad. Like 12 minute miles. Maybe I'll run on the treadmill tomorrow so I can work on my pace. Sigh!

I forgot to post over the weekend! I didn't do anything on Saturday. It was way too hot to run and the gym was having a re-grand opening. They were having vendors and all kinds of things. I had a bunch of stuff to do so I didn't go because I didn't want to get caught up in the festivities! I did go to the gym yesterday, though, and I lifted weights. I could tell it had been awhile! And then I ran today. Hot today, but not as hot. Yay for that!

More of the Same

But I had to get out there this morning because they say our weather is about to change.  Down into the 40's at night starting tonight.  It was 62 when I left the house at 7:45 this morning so still pretty warm here.  We sat on the deck in shirt sleeves last night until 10:00 watching the eclipse. This has been such a nice stretch of weather and I hate to see it change.  Guess I better move somewhere south.

Another Gorgeous Morning

How long can this last?  Not long enough.  I know that for sure.  So I got out there and enjoyed it again today.  61 when I left the house.  Very light breeze.  Full sunshine.  Just perfect.  Walked the mile north and ran it back again.  Foot continues to be ok.  Hope this cortisone shot lasts a long time.

How long can this perfect weather last?  Not forever, we all know that!  But it was perfect again this morning.  So I walked a mile north and ran it back.  Foot seems to be fine ever since that last injection so hope it lasts for a while.  Know it won't last for the long term though.

Back at it!

Finally! Finally I feel better! Yesterday was "pretty better" and today was "way super better!" Still not gonna say perfect, but close. I did run today, so yay! But it was really really really hot. I wish I had gone earlier. But I did it, that's what counts! I think my insoles are great. They seem to be. I'll know in a couple days, I suppose.

On the TM

It started raining here yesterday afternoon and continued through the night and still sprinkling here this morning.  1.3 inches in the gauge this morning.  So I opted for an indoor run on the TM this morning and it went fine.

I see from other email notes that you have been sick.  Sorry to hear that and hope it's passed by now.

Home and On the Road

I didn't run at all while we were in Marion the past week but I did use their elliptical machine.  Their TM is broken apparently.  Anyway, the elliptical certainly provides a workout and works some different muscles from running.

This morning I got back on the road.  Walked a mile north and ran it back.  Nice morning.  60, very light breeze, hazy sunshine.  Felt good to be out there doing something again.

Gym Day!

Almost didn't go, but I'm so glad I did. Just was worn out after work. But I pulled it together and it turned out to be a good workout. Weights and then I just did 5 minutes of cardio. I went later than usual and so it was busier than usual! But still wasn't a problem (should say 'it wasn't a problem, as usual!). I was able to do all my things and get in and out. I put my new insoles in and they feel really good! I'll run in them tomorrow. They're not custom ones, just off the shelf. But I can take them back if they don't work out and they were only 40$!

Regret?

Not last night's run. But maybe today's run! Yeah, I did it again. And boy to my feet hurt. Already! And I can really feel it in my ankles. Achilles tendon, I guess. But I did get some new insoles today. So fingers crossed that helps! They have really high arches. And they feel good.

Yesterday was Day 24 and.....

And I ran. I just couldn't take it anymore! I've been so stressed and anxious and unfocused. And I realized that maybe it's the running I'm missing. It's such an ability to put my brain away for a bit of time. So I did it. Even though it wasn't 30 days. And even though it was late and getting dark! But it was really enjoyable and I came back feeling really mentally refreshed. I'm glad I did it. And, yeah, my feet hurt. I'm going to RRS so I can get new insoles.

Good, Short Run

My foot seems much better this morning!  Already!  Hope it lasts.  So I walked a mile north and ran back and it was fine.  So we'll see what the rest of the day brings.  Sometimes it doesn't start to bother me until later in the day.  But I'm hopeful.

And another gorgeous, perfect morning out there.  Just beautiful.  Love days like this.

Not sure about tomorrow now.  We will be heading to Marion, IA about 9 or 9:30 so we'll see how early I wake up.

Day what?

No idea what day of no running this is! I've lost count. But it was a gym weightlifting day, anyway. So that's what I did. Although I didn't really feel like it. I'm feeling a bit out of sorts. In fact, I took three wrong turns on my way to the gym. Totally not paying attention. Got all the way into North Park before I realized I was going to the wrong place! But today I did 3 sets of bicep curls at 15 pounds. The full sets. So that's good. It was challenging! The second set required a lot of straining faces at the end. And the 3rd set required a break between 10 and 11! Good gym, all around.

Calling Dr. Redburn

When I woke up this morning and my foot was already aching I decided to call Dr. Redburn and see about getting another cortisone shot down there.  I have been walking every morning but have only run on Saturday morning for the 5K in Osceola.  And I paid for that the rest of that day.  This is very sad to me because I feel like we have had such great times over the last 5 years with these runs we've done and I hate to think those days are over.  I know these cortisone shots are only temporary measures but I'm not willing to give up completely yet.  Besides, I have this new treadmill here!

In Memory of Tristan

Mom, Carol and I took part in the Rustic Road 5K in Osceola this morning to be in solidarity with those many friends in Montana who are walking 12 miles between Hogeland and Turner today in memory of Tristan. We wish we could have been with them but we thought about them and Tristan every step of the way. "Forever in our hearts." May God bless his memory in our midst.

Updates!

Hello! Well, first update: It is sooooo hot. So hot. Just crazy for us. 107 yesterday, I think. And it was 97 at 8 pm last night! Today was a bit cooler and it's only 90 right now (at 6:45 pm). So maybe we're cooling off. Hope so. Also, good news and bad news. My scale is broken! I finally womaned up and put in new batteries. But it still doesn't work. So.....gotta let that go. I've considered using the scale at the gym but.....for lots of reasons, I think I won't. I did go to the gym on Tuesday and today. Weightlifting. Yesterday I just sat around feeling whiny and greasy and miserable! And it would have been a cardio day and that gym isn't totally enclosed so it gets pretty toasty and I figured that would be a bad idea. I'm now able to do one set of 12 (each side) bicep curls with 15 pound weights! And then today I did a second and third set of 9. I made a pal at the gym today. Probably because there weren't many other suckers working out in 100 degree weather! Tomorrow should be cardio and I'm not sure what I'll do. If it is this hot again, I'll just have to take a day off and so be it. The really sad thing is that I'm at such a good part of my book!

I did something!

I went outside and ran 2 miles this morning!  First time in a week.  I had no confidence at all that I could do it when I left the house but I just kept plodding along until it was done.  Right foot bothered me most of yesterday and some this morning while running but I just kept going anyway.  When I got home I did 25 pushups and 25 situps which I have also been sorely neglecting.  Feels good to have done something.

Updates!

I've been around this weekend but pretty busy. And I realized I haven't even checked in! Yikes! Today is really hot. 91-ish. I sure picked the right time to take this month off running. It was 85 at 7 am! Friday I didn't go to the gym. But I did cardio on Saturday and today. Weights on Sunday. I did pull-ups last week (weighted assist) and it really made my shoulder hurt. So I'm not going to do that again. I slipped and fell a few years ago and that shoulder has never been the same! But for several days after doing the pull-ups, it was very crunchy and very sore! That's it!

Day 11: Doing stuff. And things.

But stuff and things is not running. Here is my foot update: My right foot feels great. No troubles at all, actually. So that's a happy improvement. My left foot (heel) is getting better. It feels less bruised. So I really hope they both recover and don't break again as soon as I start running again! Gym day today, and it was really good. Upped some of my weights. And I did 5 minutes of cardio. I that's all I had the interested in doing! But I don't feel bad when I cut short when it's a weights day. All good.

Day Something or Other: I'm back!

I've lost count! I'll have to go back and figure out how many days I've been not running. Back from my weekend trip and it was a lot of fun. No formal exercise but we did a lot of walking. And I am really really happy with my eating over the weekend. It was healthy and delicious! Today I was back at it and I did go to the gym. Lifted weights and then did 20 minutes of cardio -Stairway to Somewhere!!! I did assisted pullups today and I suspect I'll be feeling those tomorrow! Off to meditation class now.

Good Run

Another 2 miler outside this morning and it went well.  I will up the mileage come Monday to 2.5.  I hope.  Nice morning here.  58, cloudy, but not a breeze anywhere at the time.  Very nice.  Didn't see another soul this morning either in a vehicle or on the road.  Nice private track I have.

Day 3!

Seems like day 30!  On the plus side, I've decided to take this running break when it is crazy hot. So that's good.

Morning Walk

I went for a walk this morning.  Walked about 1.5 miles I think.  Just didn't have the energy for a run.  Didn't sleep well again last night and so I'm tired this morning.

We are going to register for a walk/run in Osceola on Sept. 12.  I will run the 5K (or walk as necessary) and Mom will do the 1.8 mile "fun walk" as they call it.  We've done this before but not last year for some reason.  That's the day they're doing a walk in Montana from Hogeland to Turner (12 miles!) in memory of Tristan Billmayer.  Wish we could be there for that with them but we can't so this is our way of taking part in it.  According to what we see on FB they have 200+ signed up to walk!

Day 2 - Cardio

Today was a cardio only day at the gym.  And I did actually make it 30 minutes, which surprised me!  But my audio is getting good.  Kept me entertained.  anyway, I did the elliptical machine for 30 minutes.  Really bothered my left achilles for the first 5 or so minutes.  Felt really stiff.  Feels fine now.  Hopefully that won't become a new sore spot I need to treat like a baby!

I didn't feel like going today but I was very crabby all day. Funny that just yesterday I was saying how happy I am!  although....that's still true!  Just crabby in addition to happy.  Yeah, I'm confused, too!  Anyway, I didn't want to gym but I figured I should go and give my beta endorphins a boost.  I believe I was successful!

Back Outside

It was only 54 but there was no wind and the sun is shining so I put on the long pants and ran 2 miles outside.  Beautiful morning!

Day 1

Well, I'm considering this Day 1 of no running, even though Friday was really the last day I ran.  So far my feet are feeling better and I'm not prancing around on my tiptoes as much when I get up!

I did go to the gym today. Got there about 30 minutes earlier than usual and it was really a different scene!  Lots of meatheads!  Our times didn't overlap too much.  Then I did 20 minutes on The Stairway to Hell.  My plan is go back tomorrow and do 20 or 30 minutes (if I can stand 30 minutes!) of cardio.  And just keep switching off.  Maybe I'll do the elliptical tomorrow. 

Otherwise things are good.  My food is great.  Not losing any weight but I feel happier than I ever have, I think.  So that's what counts!  I also continue to meditate and that's been a really enjoyable thing to add to my day.  I feel a lot more at peace and less crabby.  Hm....most of the time!!

2 Miles on TM

I did take yesterday (Saturday) off after my all day adventure underneath Car '54 on Friday.  Then last night the weather changed on us again.  Big rain storm just after dark (1.9 inches in the rain gauge this morning) and much cooler today.  Only 50 and very windy this morning so I opted for 2 miles on the TM.  It went well but the TM said 1.9 miles and my Nike+ said 2.01.  I wonder if this TM can be calibrated like you can do with the Nike+.  I think the Nike+ is right because it's spot on with the Garmin watch when I use both outside.

Mom has been walking on the TM every day this week and this is now the 3rd time I've used it to run and it seems to be just fine.  So thank you Carl and Diane!

For the first time in weeks I ran a full 2 miles.  Wasn't fast or pretty but I did it.  Foot didn't bother me much while running but it's hurting now.  Just took our friend ibu so expect it to settle down soon.  Still thinking about the gym but no time today.  Putting the new muffler and tail pipe on Car '54.

Cool Running

It was only 51 when I left the house with a light breeze so for the first time this season I wore long pants and long sleeves.  And I was cold at the beginning especially when in the shade.  But I warmed up as I ran 1.6 miles this morning.  Busy day out there.  3 girls walking, 1 guy riding a bike, and saw Brandon Robinson going to work.  Plus some witch in a HUGE SUV came by me at 90 per.  I hate that!  But the run itself was good.

Gym Times

Someday I'm going to have to take a day off. Tomorrow may be that day! I feel a lot better today, slept really well last night. And I went to bed at 8:30. So I'm on the upswing and in the process of recovering my stolen sleep! I didn't do cardio today. Well, I did 2 minutes. Then I thought, "Nope!" And I left. But I had solid weight lifting times, so that's good.

Day Off

Well, it's raining.  We've gotten 2.3 inches since yesterday about 1 pm.  Beautiful, soaking into the ground kind of rain.  Just what you need in California!

Anyway, it;s raining.  Then, my foot is aching some.

But the real reason for a day off is that I didn't get out of bed until 7:45 am!  Unheard of in my world but there it is.  I worked on Car '54 all afternoon yesterday taking the exhaust pipes and muffler off so they can be replaced with new stuff.  Up and down and up under the car 50 times!  So I was tired and a little stiff and sore here this morning.

Another Run

I really didn't feel like it this morning and told myself I was just going to go for a walk.  But once I got out there I gave it a try and did a mile and a half.  I really need to up my game here.  The Wheels and Wings 5K is coming up on Sept. 12th and I'm thinking about it.  My hesitancy is due to this damn foot!  One day it's fine and the next it's not.  It's bothering some today again but I took ibu and just ran on it anyway.  Rain is moving in again.  Supposed to start around noon and rain until tomorrow morning!

Gym Day!

I've been out of sorts all today today. We did a push last night and I was worried about it all day yesterday and I think I just was dealing with residual angst about that today. And not enough sleep. And weird sleep! But I did go to the gym today. Just lifted weights. Usually I do a bit of cardio at the end but not today. No energy or desire!

Back on the road

I do go out this morning and managed to run 1.6 miles again.  The arthritis in my right foot bothered me bad all weekend.  I did manage a 1 mile walk on Saturday but that was it for the weekend.  Yesterday, it hurt all day even living on ibuprphen.  Then the rain moved in last night and it's somewhat better this morning.  I could feel it while running but not bad like yesterday.  This seems to be the new story of my life and I don't like it.

It was already 71 when I left the house and the humidity is right up there so I planned to just walk again today.  But when I got to the top of the hill I decided I would see what I could do so I started running and it wasn't as bad as I feared.  So, I ran 1.6 miles this morning!  In the heat!  Joshua came up behind me and passed me by at one point (big show off Army guy).

Late and Hot Run

I had such a cranky day of work! And I didn't get time to run until probably 3:30. It was too hot to run, truth be told. But I was full of crank so I wanted to get out of the house for a bit and think non-work thoughts. Which is exactly what I did and it was great! Helped me uncrank a lot. Also, I played a lot of piano, and that helped, too. It was way too hot for me to really enjoy my run, though. Probably 86. But it was worth it!

Gym day

Good day at the gym. Pretty busy when I got there. But I was still able to use all my equipment and get my goals done. It was a good trip. I increased some of my weights. That's a good sign! Although the increased weight meant I did fewer bicep curls. But I'll build back up to 12 per arm per set. And then when I'm back at 12/, I'll go up to a higher weight! I can't wait for this audiobook I'm listening to to be over. It's OK, but not amazing. And I'm super ready to move on. I still have a couple hours left. I'm about to get into a giant vampire fight so maybe my heroine will stop whining and actually use her magical powers. If I found out I was basically a superhero, I would not whine about it. I'd superpower EVERYWHERE and all the time!!

So many updates!

I really need to get back into the daily update habit! I can't remember all the stuff I need to post. Let's see. I've been to the gym a couple times. I've been to Texas. I only ran Texas twice, walked it once. Out of shape for that! I ran today and it was a good run. Got it in before the marine layer was gone so it wasn't too hot. That's good. Getting ready to go to a meditation class here tonight. It's pretty much my new favorite hobby!

Good Run

Hot run, though! I didn't get out till around 10:30 am and it was HOT. The really good thing is that I was very sweaty when I got back, not salty and crusty. So I'm well hydrated! My left heel has been bothering me a lot. I hated walking on it yesterday. Until it would warm up! I think maybe it's a pair of my everyday shoes. They're out!

Outside Again

Gotta run outside when I can because I will have plenty of days to use the TM.  Another nice morning and good 1.5 mile run.  My iPod died, however!  Thought I had enough juice in it but obviously I was wrong.  Garmin worked fine though so I know my pace was 10.31.

It happened!

We both knew it would happen. It was only a matter of time. Today. Today was that day. Someone was using my machine! No, I did not start a fight. I just went about my other business and did my squats at the end of my workout rather than the beginning. Which......I had done some other leg stuff and I didn't think my quads were gonna make it! But they did! I also walked on the treadmill today for 20 minutes at a 9% incline. Can't remember my exact pace, but it ended up being a mile at the end of 20 minutes.

"New" Treadmill

I got on the "new" treadmill this morning and did 1.5 miles and all seemed to work fine.  It has a small TV screen at the top there but I see no reason to connect it when we have a TV right in front of the TM.  My only complaint is the tiny "fan" button.  I like to turn the fan on half way through a run (gives me something to look forward to!) and this button is so small it's hard to hit when you're in full stride.  At the same time, I now know that the 4% incline button works! The Info screen tells me it only has 308 miles and 103 hours on it since it was new.  It is 7-8 years old but seems to work fine.

I have to give special thanks to Mike and Josh who moved it for me!  I never could have done it alone and they did most of the work to get it here.

Another gorgeous morning here but I just wanted to try this out and see if it all worked ok.  Back outside tomorrow.

Another Perfect Morning

Just  gorgeous out there.  About 60 when I left the house, no wind, bright sunshine.  Perfect.  I ran the 1.5 miles again and it was ok.  And I tried that Nike+ App without the sensor and it showed 1.56 miles while the Garmin showed 1.50 miles so not far off.  I calibrated it with the Garmin so I will use it a couple more days to see how it is.  My old iPod doesn't have GPS so not sure how it works.

I also don't know how that %$#@$%^&*((() bathroom scale works!  Too much birthday party last night I guess.

Gym Day

Oh, boy, do my quads hurt! I still did squats, but I really felt them. I did a new exercise today, for my lats. I hope those really hurt tomorrow! Also did the StH today for 20 minutes. So full workout!

Great Morning!

It's just gorgeous out there this morning.  60 degrees when I left the house, no wind, sunny, just beautiful.  And I accomplished my goal of running 1.5 miles without walking.  I also started in with the pushups and situps again this morning which I have neglected for at least 2 months.  Did 25 of each although they weren't "video worthy."  Still, it's a start.

My Nike+ sensor wouldn't click on this morning however.  Guess I will charge up the Garmin and start using that to keep track.  Also might try the Nike+ App again which is supposed to work without a sensor.  I tried it a couple years ago and gave up on it but don't remember why.

Back to the gym!

Well, today was my first day back at the gym in a week. I can't believe that it has been that long. It was challenging. But I kept my weights at what they were last session and just dealt with it. Otherwise known as 'sucking it up!' It was good. You know I love that place. Also did the Stairway to Hell for 20 minutes. Very sweaty. My vampire book is not a romance novel.....yet! I'm keeping my eye on this!

2 days worth

I've walked a mile north and run all the way back at a good clip now for 2 mornings.  Humidity way down so felt great.  Plan to up the mileage by Monday.  Have to get back into the routine.

Ouch, me too!

Are we old or something?!  No way, not possible!  Right?

Boy, I didn't sleep at all last night.  No idea what the deal was.  Just a lot of flopping around.  Which is sad because I went to bed at 9.  But I did run today.  And I have further sad news!  I'm done with The Martian, which is sad in and of itself.  But the other sad thing is that I think my new book is a vampire romance book!  I thought it was going to be about a lady who becomes a powerful magi.  And I think that might still be true.  But there may also be a vampire romance involved.  Soooo.........I'll give it one more run before I return it to audible.

Anyway, I ran.  And tomorrow will be gym unless I have a massage.  I think that's actually on Thursday though.  So that's my plan!

Something to report!

I slept in a little this morning and because of that we missed church.  So, because my right foot was feeling ok, I decided to walk north a mile and run back and I did!  Had to walk briefly at the half mile mark because it is so humid out there!  But it feels good to have done something.  My foot is bothering me now though as I sit here so I don't know.  I will just have to take it one day at a time and see how much I can do.

Another big update

I have not been posting but I have been doing things!  Today was a bigger day than usual because it was a gym day. But I am also soooooo close to being done with my audio book. I had 1 your left. So I went over to Texas after the gym. Still have a half an hour left! 

I haven't run hold for so long.  Made it up 2.25 times. Walked that last .75. It was hot and hard!

So I'll finish tomorrow. Then what???  I will need a new book!

I've not been reporting in but I have been running! Yesterday was not the best. I didn't go until 4:30 and I was hungry and tired. Today was way better though. Fun and enjoyable. Although hot. It was good but I just feel so static. Complacent. I want things to physically change for myself by they just are not - and I'm not making too many changes to ensure they do!

Great Gym!

Back on the Road

I got back on the road this morning and did the 2 miles but it was slow just like you say you are.  Walked and ran.  It was warm when I left but don't know how warm.  Glad to be back at it though after traveling for most of this week.

Happy to hear you like the new gym!  Makes it easier to go when you like the place. Also glad to hear that Bart is getting better.  That's taking a long time though.

Gym sore!

I went to the gym yesterday after we got back from Jacumba. It was a little bit busy!  But I still got on every machine I wanted. Really like this new gym. I feel like I'm not making do any more but can use what I actually want.

I ran today.  A bit of a struggle probably because I didn't sleep great last night. But I did it.

I sure am gym shoes today though!  Not as bad as last week, but I did dial it back a bit from what I did last week. I could hardly walk after that session!  Anyway, sore but not that sore.

Listening to The Martian not now and I love it.  Both the story and the reader.

Doing My Best

But I'm finding it hard here.  Maybe it's the altitude.  I'm running most mornings and walking when I don't run but I can't run the whole 2 miles here yet.  It's been too warm for one thing and I think the altitude really makes a difference.  Now this week we'll be traveling over to Kalispell Monday to Thursday so don't know how much I'll get done.  Hard to run when you're traveling.

And Finally!

Dang was I sick! I'm still imperfect but substantially better. So I ran today. It's been so long! And it took so long! Very very slow pace. But I got out there and made it and didn't have to stop to cough or blow my nose. So that's good! I'd say "happy long weekend!" but I know your life is just a complete long weekend now. But it's a long weekend for me and I'm thrilled.

Gym!

You read that right! For the first time since March, I went to the gym! My new gym. I really think I am going to love it. It's much calmer than the other one. Today I lifted weights but I took it pretty easy. I want to be able to walk tomorrow! Even for taking it easy, my muscles are very shaky now! I can really tell it has been awhile. But I'll get back into the groove. I actually ran today, too. I did it before I went to the office. I wasn't positive if I'd get to the gym tonight or not. And I took yesterday off so I wanted to run in case I ended up not gymming tonight. So I just skipped cardio at the gym since I had already done it. Almost done with my audio book (The Maze Runner). Jessica told me she listened to The Martian (soon to be a movie) and that it was so awesome she tried to find longer routes to work so she could extend her listening time! So I am going to listen to that next. Can't wait, actually. I hope you're having a great time and I wish I was with you!

I'm here!

I'm a slacker on posting but I have been running!  I've changed my breakfast a bit and I'm feeling more energetic. I hope it's not placebo effect! 

I did join that other gym and plan on going tomorrow. I will not be doing the 5x5 program!  I'm excited to get back into the gym routine.

New shoes seem great so far. I went to an 8 mm heel to this differentiation. I was at 12. I think this will help my right foot. We shall see!

Last 3 Days

On both Monday and Tuesday I ran a full 2 miles without walking so I am beginning to get back on track.  Today I ran the hill in front of our house twice and back home which it turns out is only 1.5 miles but, then, it's the hill!  Never done that before but think I will make it a part of my program.  After being in Montana and running there I will need to do some running on hills!

7th Annual Fitnatics 5K

We ran it on Friday, June 12th, 2015, and it was great!  A perfect morning in terms of weather.  Just gorgeous.  Paul won, as usual,  Anderson 2nd, Julie 3rd, and the old man 4th.  But we got it done.  The rest walked and also did a great job.  Then we had a wonderful day.  Faux Olympics and a Dump Dinner which were all just great.  This had become a very special day for our family and I hope we can keep it up in the years to come.

Run

Really nice run today. Beautiful day for it. And everything smells so nice! I have no idea what my time is like. I should set the timer on my phone so I'll know. Guess I'm having a rain day of rest tomorrow! My feet have not been hurting as much since I stopped wearing my Vans. Sad but true. Skateboard life dream isn't dead though! Just needs to be reworked.

And Another One!

I ran the whole 2 miles again this morning so I think I am finally getting back on track here.  Now, if I can just stay healthy and avoid injury I might have a good summer of running.  I am planning to get back to my 3 on, 1 off, 3 on schedule so that means tomorrow will be a day of rest in advance of the Fitnatics 5K.  Timed that just right!

2 Mile Run!

I did my first full 2 miler this morning in about 4 months!  I ran a mile north and back and never walked.  It's been a struggle to get back to it after these problems with my feet but I am finally making progress.  Now the key will be to be consistent about it so I hope I can do that.

Still Trying

Running!

Good day for a run here! I did the Fitnatics 5k route again. Really nice. And it was not too cool but just cool enough as I was out and about. As you know, my feet are in tough shape. Maybe I'll check out your running store and see if they have some Mitzuno's.

And I actually did something.  Ran on their TM and used the weight machines.  Felt good.  Gotta get back on track here.  Both feet are feeling ok now and so glad for that.

Yay Run!

Very delightful run this morning! Such a beautiful day. It was just so great to be outside. Even though I don't like participating in Wormageddon! I did squats and pushups when I got home. The door handle is the perfect height (for me) for assisted squats. I shall endeavor to not break it off the door!

More running! Today I put my old orthotics in my shoes and my left heel didn't suffer from what's become the usual pain. So I'll keep that in. Did I tell you I've quit running with my garmin? I'm just so slow, I don't need it documented! It kinda brings me down, so it's better to do it without - for now anyway. Did pushups and squats.

Walking

I got on the TM this morning and walked for 20 minutes.  Seemed to go fine but, unfortunately, there is some discomfort (not really pain) still present in the right foot.  Not much can be done if it's arthritis I don't think.  I don't know of the bruised bone is better or not.  Time will tell I suppose.  But I'm not wearing the boot and I did something however little it may be.

Boot Coming Off

I've been in contact via email with Dr. Redburn this afternoon and she says take the boot off and see how things go over the weekend.  I now have a date with her for 9:15 am on Monday.  So, I think I will try to do some walking tomrorow morning and see how it goes.  Not going to try running yet.  But I am so glad to have the boot off!

Woke up with very sore feet today but I took an ibuprofen and I did run.  3 miles in Kensington.  It was good to be out and about but it did hurt!  But I did it anyway!

Ouch, my poor feet!

I'll tell you one thing about my sickness enforced running downtime, I really realize how hard it's been on my body.  Specifically my feet.  Now that I'm running again, they just hurt so much.  My arches hurt, the bruise in my left heel is back, and that toe numbness in my right foot is back.  Just feeling really dispirited about our hobby today, Dad!

Today I went out to run but was so sore I just walked.  Whine, pout, whine whine whine!

Busy Day

It has been really busy here today. I'm working and dealing with the plumbing situation. It's a challenge to coordinate between three units! I did run today, 3 miles. My left heel is getting bruised again. Maybe I need a squishy heel cup in that shoe. Oh, also did pushups and squats here at home.

Two updates!

Yesterday I went over to the YMCA and signed up for their free trial. It was SO amazingly busy. I didn't have any chance at the weight machines. So I did some cardio. I've been told that my usual gym time (around 2:30) is actually their busiest time of the day, because that's when school lets out. So I don't plan on joining there, but I'm glad I checked it out. And today I ran. Kensington loop.

Crap!

Here's the note I just got from Dr. Redburn:

Hi Wayne,

I have reviewed your MRI results. MRI shows "contusion type injury with early osteonecrosis". This means you have a bone bruise and arthritis in the joint. I recommend a short course of immobilization in a CAM boot for approximately 2 weeks to see if rest will help resolve the pain. If that is not successful, I would consider an injection. Walking Day

Yeah, I walked today!  Something I haven't done for ages.  Well, health walking.  Obviously I walk to my car and such!  I was going to run today but just didn't have the passion for it.  So I walked.  I walked part of the Kensington route.  You know that little hill on Van Dyke by the school?  I walked over there and then walked those little hills 6 times then walked home.

It was fun and I'm actually sore!

Stiff and Sore This Morning

Wow!  I don't know if it was from finally doing something yesterday or from going up and down that step ladder a hundred times while mounting that 027 Lionel Train to it's new home.  Probably a combination of both but I was (and still am) so stiff and sore this morning.  I did get on the TM but quit it at 1.5 miles and only did half my pushups and situps today.  But at least it was something.  And you know how I said yesterday that I hadn't gained any weight in the last month?  Well, today I was UP 1.2 lbs from yesterday!!!!  How can that be?  I hate that scale!

A New Month, A New Effort

I got on the TM this morning and ran 2 miles.  Felt like I was going to die!  But I did it.  Walked about 30 seconds in the middle though.  Then I did 50 pushups and 50 situps and I wished I was going to die!!  I hope to start a new effort now in April so we'll see.  Amazingly, I didn't gain any weight during our California adventure but I still have lots to lose.

I was hoping to run outside this morning because it was 43 at 8 am.  But the wind had come up and the windchill must have been 20.  Don't know but it was too cold for this old man.

I think today was my third run in a three week period. But I did it. Slow. I didn't even wear my watch. And i was tired. And it wore me out after. But that's ok, I just have to get back into the swing of things. Today is the first day I'd say I feel good. I am tired but, otherwise, good.

Foot Hurts

Yes, that's right.  Felt it late yesterday and now again today.  So, I don't think these steroids are doing anything for me.  Might just be something I'll have to live with.

I did get on the TM again this morning and walked 25 minutes.  Also did some pushups and situps but that was hard.  How quickly we lose it if we don't continue to use it.

Arthritis!

This morning I was so stiff and sore from running yesterday and then shopping that I just walked for 20 minutes on the TM.

This afternoon I saw Dr. Redburn and she thinks I have some arthritis going on in my right foot.  Took xrays and there is no stress fracture or anything broken at all.  The fact that it comes and go indicates to her it's arthritis.  She's putting me on a course of steroids for 6 days to see if that helps.  She looked at my orthotics and think they are fine and I don't need new ones.

I did something, too!

I've been feeling better, just really exhausted. But I decided to go for it and run today. So I did. I went really really really slow. Maybe 40 minutes to do 3 miles. But I did it and I survived. I had a massage schedule this afternoon and Karen took one look at me and said, "Please don't be mad, but I have to reschedule you. You do not look healthy." Which, of course, not mad. I guess I thought I was better when, really, I'm just feeling a bit better than I was. I'm not actually better, that's true. Sigh. Someday.

I Did Something!

I actually got on the TM this morning and ran 2 miles.  It nearly killed me though!  Very hard work and I started coughing the minute I stopped running.  I thought I was over this stuff but not totally I guess.  However, I am determined to get back on the wagon here one way or another.

On another note, my right foot is bothering me today.  Maybe because I ran on it this morning?  I don't know but I have an appointment with the podiatrist here tomorrow at 2:30 pm so hopefully I will find out what is going on down there.

Well, in between walks I ran!  Did 2 miles and ran most of it but also walked quite a few times.  Only one coughing fit at the 1 mile point.  Gorgeous morning out there.  Finally!  Biggest problem today?  I would stop at intersections and was happy to rest for 10 seconds but, invariably, the folks in their cars waved me on!  Hey, I wanted a breather!

Feeling it!

Yesterday I went back to the 5x5. I had gone back to my regular lifting but, after a couple of weeks, I stopped seeing results. So I'll try the 5x5 again. I didn't realize it doesn't just go on forever! I'm glad to know there is a stopping point. Anyway, I can really feel the squats I did! Sore legs!

Way Behind in Posting

I have run the last two mornings here but haven't gotten around to posting anything.  Good runs.  Lots of hills!  But that's good for me I know.  Only 2 miles because it's so hard to run when you have to stop at every corner and look for cars!  Next week I need to go somewhere and do a longer run without traffic and stop signs everywhere.

I had another PT session today and, again, it was really fun! We worked on jumping the entire time. And pushups when I hit the tape. So lots of pushups! But it was good - running jumps, static jumps, and 360 jumps.

Two Runs!

I've gotten behind in my posting.  Again!  Seems to be happening a lot!  But I did run yesterday and today.  3 miles doing the Kensington Route.

So I'm with you about mixing things up and running less but doing other exercise more.  I love to run, but I feel like I need a break.  And I also feel like my body isn't responding to the work I'm doing when I run.  Which is my way of saying I'm not losing weight!

Weights

It took me a long time to work up the motivation to get to they gym today.  I didn't go until 2!  And I just lifted weights.  I just didn't feel like doing cardio.  I told myself I was still drained from my long run.  True or not, it's the story I'm sticking with!

Big run

I was going to post about this yesterday, but I guess I was too tired after my run and and the kinda stressful day we had.

But I did a long run yesterday.  10.3 miles.  Really displeased about the time it took me but I am glad I got it done. 

I started with the Texas Loop doing the hill 3 times.  That gives me 6 miles.  Then I did the Kensington Loop and added some distance by running up Adams each time I reached that horseshoe. 

It has been so hot, so I got up pretty early so I could be done before it got too warm for running. 

My right foot really hurt today.  I am wondering if those flatter shoes were good for my right foot, bad for my left.  And maybe the greater incline shoes are better for the left and worse for the right!  It's hard to know, though, because I also walked two miles from the auto shop in shoes that are not made for traveling such distances.  Anyway, I was thinking I could cut an old thin insole toe section and put that in the toe of my right shoe (under the existing insole) to reduce that "differential". 

Today was a day off!

Short Run Today

I only did a 2 miler this morning because my right foot is really bothering me today.  I am becoming more and more suspicious that I have some arthritis going on there.  Some days it really bothers me (like today) and other days I'm not aware of it at all.  And it doesn't seem to make any difference at all whether I wear the new or old orthotics.  I've been wearing the old ones for days now and it's been fine until last night and again this morning.  But the orthotics don't seem to have any impact on it.  It just wants to "flare up" on occasion.  I have some arthritis in the pointer finger on my right hand according to my Doc.  And the foot acts just like that.  Doesn't bother for days and then does.  I won't be seeing a Doc now before our trip but will maybe go see the podiatrist when we come home.  In the meantime, I plan to live on Aleve 3 weeks from today!

Stuff!

Believe it or not, I have something to report from yesterday! I usually don't do anything after a push night but my appointment with my PT is on Thursdays and I decided to just go for it and hope for the best. I did go to bed at 7 on Wednesday (and laid there till 8:30!) and then I slept again on Thursday from 6 -7:30. So better sleeping than normal on those nights. Anyway, really fun appointment. We did some different things, including kickboxing. But the thing I really loved was jumping! This guy believes in jumping! And he has this thing he's created with these two.....goal post looking things that have gridmarks. And a tape that velcros between them that you jump over. So if you hit it, it comes right off. Because it's velcro! Anyway, I jumped 26 inches! Today I went to the gym and did weights. Really challenging today. And the elliptical for 20 minutes. Oh, and my phone died. So Bart's giving me his old one tonight and I'll use that till I kill it! Julie: Destroyer of technology!!

I had to talk myself into getting on the TM but it was a good run so glad I did.  I punched it up to 6.0 mph for the last 400 meters!

Updates

Today I ran and it really hurt. I decided after a mile that this was my last run in those shoes. They did such mean things to my feet. So I went to milestone after piano and got a new pair. New balance, which I haven't had before. They felt good and seem to have me land on the inside of my heel rather than the outside. Any way, 30 day wear em and love eh, so worth a shot.

My other update is that I realized I haven't tried my old phone with iTunes. Maybe it was the other apps. So I put a book on iTunes and let that play with my beeping app. Played for over an hour, just fine. So.........maybe?

Good Morning

I was back at it again today.  3 miles on the TM plus the pushups and situps.  Didn't really want to do it this morning but I did and, of course, am glad I did now that it's done!  Always the way it is!  Foot is still bothering but actually seems ok after I've run a half mile or so.  Maybe I just need to run all day every day everywhere I go!

Weights - only weights!

No cardio. I just wasn't feeling it. Didn't get a great night of sleep, had a snack rather than lunch (bad!) and my audiobook listening situation is still very sad. Last night I reset that old phone to factory state. But still no love. I played my audio book and it stopped around 25 minutes. Then again a minute later. So....it's just not going to be my option. Alas!

Weekend Update

Friday I did a big run! 6 miles, Texas loop and I did Texas 3 times. It was good, I was exhausted when I was done. I was running back up Texas with a lady and she said, "sometimes I don't run, but I take really big steps up the hill - it's like doing lunges." So maybe I'll try that sometime. Yesterday I went to they gym. Weights only, no cardio. Just too tired, I actually didn't even want to do the weights. But I wanted to keep this upcoming week on track because it's going to be very busy at work. Because I did gym yesterday, I'm on track to do it tomorrow and then weights with Mike on Thursday. Day off today. So glad about that!

More of the Same

But this morning I made sure the speed was at 5.7!  Right foot is bothering me some again.  Did last fall, went away, did in December, went away, and now it's back again.  Don't want to know what it is until after California!

Back on the TM

But I made a big mistake today!  I always run at 5.7 mph because that's where I'm most comfortable.  Well, this morning, I was really pushing it by the time I was getting close to being done.  When I took the towel off the display I saw that I had set it to 5.8.  Only a tenth faster but I could sure tell the difference by the time I was done.  So, no more of that nonsense!  Otherwise it went fine.

PT Day!

Very fun day with my personal trainer. He's continuing to show me different exercises. I'm learning a lot. I've pretty much given up on the 5x5 and gone back to my normal weights workout, except that I've increased the weight a lot. And I can really tell a difference. Although I know 5x5 is working for Bart! So it does work! I weight exactly the same, but my pants tell me things are changing. Oh, ran there and back. Biked for about 10 minutes.

Well now!

Catching up!

It probably seems like I didn't do anything this weekend but I just didn't check in! I had my computer off and didn't get around to posting. So.....let's see. Friday:Ran three miles. Also, I sure could feel the results of my PT session the day before. Saturday: Should have been a gym day but I drove over there and it was so packed I just left. I realize that probably everyone who normally would go on Sunday was probably there so they could have it out of the way on game day. So I ran 3 miles. Sunday: Gym! And it was absolutely dead. Really delightful. Also did the elliptical for 30 minutes. Monday: I was going to do a 3 mile run this morning but my old phone just would not work. I've kinda been thinking it was this app from the library that was no good but today my Run Tempo app died every time the library app did. So, yeah, angst. Anyway, I came home, downloaded the library book as an album to iTunes, put that on my nano, and then listened to my nano this afternoon. I just like using my phone because it supports apps and I can use Run Tempo on it. Anyway, because I went later (after work), I decided to go over to Texas. So I ran down there and I ended up running texas 3 times before running home. 6 miles! Yay! Slow, but I did it.

Personal Trainer Day!

Meeting 2 with my Personal Trainer. Super like him. I ran over (under a mile) and then did the bike for 10ish minutes. Then it was time for our appointment. And he showed me a bunch of different exercises. I'm not feeling sore right now, but I bet I will a little bit tomorrow. I like this, though, because he's not breaking me. Thing I learned today: pushups work the same muscle group as the bench press! I almost ran again this afternoon because I really wanted to listen to my audiobook. But I don't want to get into overkill. So I didn't.

Whole New Routine at the Gym

In December I was just starting to feel like I was "getting it."  Today, a whole new routine!  Says she changes it up every 3 months so I was back in spasticville today.  Feel so totally uncoordinated when I go there!  Good workout though - what I could do of it.  Part of my problem is that I can't hear and understand a word she is saying.  Music is loud and without the hearing aids I don't get anything that she says.  So I can't follow instructions because I don't know what they are.  I just have to watch and try to copy.  I'll go again next week though because I think it's a good change up from running every day.

3 miles

I almost didn't go because I was so tired. But I decided what the heck, I can walk if I don't really feeling like running once I get out there. But I ran the entire way, so that's good. Turkey meatloaf for dinner tonight! So far that is the only part of my dinner plan. Better think of some vegetable.

One More Time

More of the same for me this morning.  Very discouraged by my weight though.  I have been really good this week and haven't lost an ounce.  I did better when I was in Florida and eating fried shrimp every other day.  No kidding.  I just don't understand how weight works.

Gym day with the girls tomorrow and then a day off on Friday when we are in Duluth.

I'm tired!

I did run today, but that's not why I'm tired. It's just been a busy and kinda stressful day. And I'm still working! Almost done, though. I had a good run. Really beautiful day today. My old phone that I'm using when I run died on me again today! First time that has happened since I have started holding it in my hand when I run. And, yep, it happened after I decided not to hold it in my hand.

Big day!

Guess I made up for my day of exercise slack yesterday. I didn't sleep well at all Saturday night, and I was pretty much a zombie yesterday. But today I ran, lifted weights at the gym, and did the elliptical! I know, nuts! Today was a scheduled gym day but things were getting a little harry with work and it was getting ready to rain. Because I was starting to question my ability to get to the gym, I decided to run. 3 miles. Kensington Loop. Zero coyotes. Then it turned out I could get to the gym, so I did! I did my routine, 5x5 style. Then I decided to do the elliptical, mostly because I wanted to listen to my book. Thursday Mike (my PT) is going to measure me. Then I'm going to set some kind of goal and some kind of reward. Not a food reward, though. I was thinking that a pedicure would be a good reward. Or maybe a visit to that Korean body scrubbing place I love.

Back in the Game

I got on the TM this morning and ran a whole 3 miles without walking or pausing.  Will probably pay for it but I did it and felt good about it.  I also did my full complement of pushups and situps (50 each) which I neglected in Florida.  So back at it.

My butt hurts!

I have a pretty interesting result (to me!) of my session yesterday. Usually when I do squats, my quads hurt. Today it is my butt that hurts. Different form! Let's see if I can keep it up. I think I'll make some modifications on the 5x5 so that I can make sure I'm doing the forms correctly. Like with the squat. I ran this afternoon. And not in Coyote Kensington! I decided to do the Texas Loop. I ran down to Texas, did the hill once, and came home. I suppose I have to start training for the half here soon.

PT Day!

What a really great meeting I had today! We went though all the exercises in the 5x5 so I know what I'm doing and don't hurt myself. So I'll continue to do that at the gym and then, next week, we'll work on other different things. I also asked him to measure me next week so I can keep track of any size changes. I ran there and back. I think it's just under a mile each way. So, fun day!

Last Cape Coral Run

I was a little late getting out there this morning and it was already 70 degrees but I did my 2.3 mile route around the neighborhood here.  Very nice.  And I wore the old orthotics in the Atrex shoes and had no problem at all so guess I will stick with that arrangement for now.

We will be leaving the house here at 7:30 am tomorrow so that will be a day off for me.  But I am really looking forward to that TM in the basement on Saturday!  NOT!

Tiny Hills

Today I did tiny hill intervals. It was good. Listened to my book which got me to 30 minutes rather than stopping at 20 minutes! Tomorrow is my appointment with PT. I'm excited about it. I'll fill you in.

Another Run

I did another run here this morning but wore my old running shoes with the orthotics.  These are the shoes I retired when I bought the Atrex a while back.  However, these shoes are done.  No support left in them at all so it didn't go well.  Will go back to the Atrex shoes tomorrow.  Guess I'll go back to the old orthotics, too, because they didn't bother me in those shoes.  Can't keep it all straight!  Tomorrow will be my last outside run until I get to SD!

Day off!

Well, yesterday was a day off from exercise. Today was a day off from work. Today I went and met the personal trainer and I signed up for 6 30 minute sessions. I liked him and his facility. Very low key, I'll feel comfortable there. He is going to show me the 5x5 exercises, per my request. I want to make sure I'm doing them correctly! And then we'll do other things, as well. After that I went to the gym and did one of my 5x5 sessions. Then I did the elliptical for 20 minutes. Level 7 today, not level 9! Still very challenging, though. And, I think, a way better workout. Level 9 was such a grind but I didn't feel all sweaty. Today I was really sweaty. Good sign, I think! Running tomorrow!

Good Morning

What a beautiful morning here! I went for a 2.3 mile around the neighborhood and it was just gorgeous out there.  I did a little walking though, too.  I'm just not what I use to be!

I am going to go shoe shopping today I think.  There is a running store here and my feet are becoming more and more uncomfortable in those Aetrex shoes I bought a couple of months ago.  I feel like my orthotics are wrapping up around my feet.  Don't know how to explain it but I think these shoes are too narrow.  Should have gotten wider shoes. I don't have this problem when I put them in my everyday Asics that use to be my running shoes.  I'm going to check it out anyway.

Cape Coral 5K

I completely forgot to post this yesterday!  Must be having too much fun here.

Anyway, we were up at 5:45 am - WAY TOO EARLY when on vacation!  We left the house at 7:00 which also turned out to be too early because there was no traffic to deal with at that time on a Saturday morning.  It was only 50 degrees though so we even had the heater on in the car driving to the start area.  Run/walk started at 8:00 am.  I did terrible!  Very slow.  I just don't know what's happened to me that I feel so out of shape this winter.  My weight is up as we all know but it's been at this level for more than a year now so I don't know that that's the only issue.  But ever since the Whistlestop I just feel so sluggish and out of shape.  Oh well, I will just keep plugging along and hope for the best.  I'm not going to quit and do nothing.

I am doing nothing this morning, however.  Didn't sleep well and feel stiff and sore from yesterday's effort.  And we had company (Carl and Diane Hansen) here for dinner last night and they didn't leave until after 9 pm and we weren't done cleaning up and doing dishes until almost 10:00.  So when I went to bed I was still too keyed up I think.

Texas Loop Run

It's been awhile since I've run down to Texas and then home, but that's exactly what I did today. I got a pretty late start but we didn't get too hot today, so that was fine. My quads are just all torn up from the squats I've been doing so that made running very challenging. I suppose I should take a day of rest, maybe tomorrow. Maybe!

Day B of 5x5

Well, I was super sore from squats, I'll tell you that! But they were on the menu again today so I did them. I was going to do them with a bar only. Last time I did them with a weighted bar. But the bars that you actually put weights on seem to weigh more than the pre-weighted bar I used the other day! So I used that 20 pound bar again. After weights, I did 20 minutes on the elliptical which was very challenging. I had it at a high interval level. I have an appointment on Monday with someone at Science Fitness on Adams Avenue. I just want to make sure that I'm doing my weight exercises right! And if our meeting goes well, I'll buy a 6 (30 minute) session package. That package comes out the same as it does for Chuze, my gym. So we will see what Monday brings!

Running Sore!

Seriously, it's like I've never done a squat before! I cannot believe how much I can feel the weight lifting workout from yesterday. Crazy. But a good sign. I did run today, intervals. The tiny hills. And I actually made it for 30 minutes! I had my doubts when I started because my muscles were so sore! But I did it. Absolutely beautiful day out there. Really delicious.

Something Different - For Real!

Not just different listening material! As you know, I've been going to the gym and lifting weights. You also know that I'm not losing any weight. I do think I'm making some muscle gains, but not as much as I'd like. I know I've mentioned that I've been toying with the idea of going to a trainer. But, honestly, I just don't want to spend that money. Anyway. The other day Bart told me about a weightlifting program called 5x5: http://stronglifts.com/5x5/ I decided to give it a try and I mentioned it to Angie. She says this is the program that Mike and Josh have been using! I did day 1 yesterday and, I'm surprised, but it was pretty hard! Challenging. And this morning I can feel it. Which means I didn't start my weight low enough, I suppose. In theory, I'm supposed to go up 5 pounds each new session. But I am going to hold steady till I'm unsore. There are questions. I don't have a workout partner so I never want to lift to the point of needing a spotter. I guess at some point I'll just plateau my weights. But I wonder if it will stop working then or if I will just maintain. Also, the plan says to take a true day off between lifting sessions. I am not going to do that. I am going to run. So......how much will that screw me up? I will find the answers through trial and error, I'm sure! I kinda suspect that these rules are really for meatheads who want to super bulk. Which is not my plan. My goals are: Fat reduction, increased calorie burning, muscle, strength. I have decided I'll try this for 12 weeks and see if I have any changes. I can always go back to my old routine or try a different method, if need be.

Something Different

What was different? I ran listening to actual music today! I don't know how long it has been since I've done that! It's been 5 books at 20 hours each long! It was fun. Good run. Really sweaty! I weighed myself today and it was, as usual, a total disappointment! I really thought I'd see a few pounds down but no. Just one. Oh well! I just got off the phone with you and you are having a WONDERFUL time!
