I had a good run this morning but I seriously felt like I had cookie dough running through my veins rather then blood! I did wear my timer watch but I didn't check it until I got home - I decided that I didn't really care about pushing myself. Although I did, obviously, want to know my total time. It was 32:27. Pretty good for three miles!
I ate well all day today - including dinner. Bart and I had dinner at Little Sheep which is a hot pot restaurant. It is basically broth in which you cook your various foods. We had different greens, noodles, lamb, beef, dumplings. What else? Oh, frozen tofu! My favorite, actually. I don't know how I forgot that one! Anyway, you just simmer your item in the broth until it is done. Pretty darn delicious. Hopefully somewhat nutritious!
Are you making any resolutions for the new year? I am going to have mine be to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

I'm up and at it. Walked this morning again but just walked. Feeling better than I was over the weekend but head is still full of it. Sore throat is gone though so that's good. Going to work today even though I could call in sick again. I have things to do though. And will have to do some shoveling when I get home. Ah, weeds!
Well, I did it! I ran to my garden this morning. And it was really fun! It is an easy run - only a little over two miles. Man, do I have weeds. I have Thursday off, so I guess I know what I'll be doing!
I did some lunges and push ups today, too. I cannot believe we forgot to work on lunges and squats when I was home! Guess we will have to do that when you visit in February. It will make your behind sad if we remember to actually do it!

Back at it
I've made a decision this morning - and I'm excited about it. I'm going to run to my garden. I won't be able to get over until Thursday during daylight and I want to see what is up! So that will put me a little over two miles. I'm not going to worry about time this week. Just consistency. And making it enjoyable - like I am planning to do this morning!

Good Night!
I'm tired!
I had a great run on YOUR treadmill this morning! It was fun and it was even more fun to think that you were just on the other side of the wall.
I did run yesterday at the hotel, too.
My holiday goal is two pronged: 1. I want to get some exercise every day - 20 minutes, 2. I'm not going to worry about eating at all! That's what the new year is for!

Anticipating Slack
Well, dang is it cold! And rainy. And I don't do running it this style of cold. And I REALLY don't do running in the rain. Especially after the iPod incident, which you may recall. Because you picked me up in the pouring rain! Or at least my iPod - I think I finished my run!
This morning I was a little disheartened to get up and find out that it is winter!!! So I did lunges, squats, crunches, and push ups. 30 of each. Well, except for the crunches.
Tomorrow ought to be more of the same. We will have this rainy storm system through Thursday, I guess. Oh well! I'll just keep doing what I can do!

Good Morning
Geez, where have I been? Haven't posted here for a couple days? Anyway, didn't even turn the computer on today until a little while ago. Then we spent the last 30 minutes watching Carter's Christmas program. Very fun. Had a little brunch here this morning (just the 4 of us) for Poppa's birthday which is tomorrow (hint). Then took Josh to West Immanuela for his program practice. So a busy morning. Did get my walk in though. Peter, Paul and Mary this morning. Not the best walking music though. You are making great time on your runs I think! We haven't eaten any cookies here yet. Mom makes them and sticks them in the freezer! One week from tonight you will be here! Hurray! Have a good day.

Did it!
Even though I had a late night, I got up and ran this morning. And I am really glad I did because I've eaten about a million cookies today!

Up Late!
I just got home! I met my friend Anne for dinner tonight and we got to gabbing and now it is all kinds of late! And, wow, was I tired all day today. I really don't eat a lot of meat and I am thinking that I might want to think about getting more protein and iron.
I had a great run today! Officially 10 minutes and 30 seconds per mile. My total time was 31:30. So that is great!
My iPod died with a mile left to go! So I had to run to the sound of my own singing - in my head.

Brrr!
I need some mittens! It was pretty darn cold this morning. Which means I had to run fast! Today my time was 32:06. Yeah, a bit longer then yesterday. But still, we must admit I represent!
Good run today - seemed pretty vacant out there. Oh, except for all the junior high boys wearing their stinky boy perfume!
I had a healthy eating day today. Well, until I came home and ate THREE Christmas cookies! Oh well!
I am really tired. My teeth are already brushed. I'm submitting this and then packing it up for the night. I'm glad it is almost the weekend - I'm ready for some sleeping in. Even if it is only till 7 am!

Another Day
I slept so well last night! So well that I did not want to get up this morning! But I did. I hit snooze and thought to myself "hm....did you actually hit snooze? Or did you dismiss your alarm?" So I just got up!
I had a really good run this morning - 31:55! Best time yet! Although I am unofficially calling it 31:58. While I was yelling at the lady who almost hit me (a different person every day!) I stopped my watch. I am pretty sure I turned it right back on but I may have crossed the street before doing so. So I timed that crossing on the way home and add those three seconds on. Wow! That is a long explanation that basically ends the same way: I pretty much kick ass!
I tell ya! Those people and their stinking cars! Don't worry - I really keep an eye out for those fools.
I'm excited for tomorrow's run. I will be listening to Christmas....My Town! That will be fun. I decided not to listen to it tonight so it will be all shiny and new for me tomorrow.
Rolling out a new label tonight! I'm moving on from the Jog label. I think a 10:40/mile pace can officially be called a Run!

Another Run
Back at it today! I am especially glad because I really didn't sleep well and I went to be sort of questioning my commitment to getting up! I will admit that I hit the snooze a time or two, but I got up and went for a run.

Congratulations on the time! You are doing great! I'm jogging for about 10 of my 30 minutes now but don't know if I'll ever be able to do for the full 30. Mom made some of those cookies last week but never gave me one! They went right into the freezer. But I know where they are so might have to sneak one or two. Is Arlene somebody you work with or know from that group? I don't remember you mentioning her before. I've been for my walk and pretty soon we're going over to TF to buy our Christmas tree. My time today was the best this week! Dang! And YAY ME! I did not realize but I really did beat my time from yesterday!

That means I've stripped 4 seconds short of a minute off my longest run time this week. And I've consistently improved. My longest time was on Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday each saw an improvement in my time. That is pretty exciting.

Motivation
I had a really great exercise week. I have felt stagnant for the last month but I have known that it was because I was not really putting in a good effort. This week I really did and I can feel the results! What is interesting is that I did not feel really motivated, I made myself work hard, I feel highly motivated. Go figure. Actually, it makes sense. I recently read an article stating that people who don't stick with their exercise plan usually have low self esteem. But by exercising you can help raise your self esteem.
I had a good run today. Didn't beat yesterday's time though. I was positive I did though so I was pretty disappointed when I looked at my watch. Why did I think I beat yesterday? Because I ran so hard the last 1/4 mile, I thought I was going to barf! Ha! That is dedication! Or....something..... Anyway, it was a good run again. 32:08. I'm really happy with that time.
I'm also really happy with my new shoes! My feel are so much less sore. I can really already tell a difference thought out the day. Also, my right leg/hip does not feel so stiff today.
Mixed up my Pepparkakor dough tonight. I'm cheating though - I did not use white flour. I used hard white whole wheat. It has all the nutrition of whole wheat but comes from a different kind of wheat berry so it is lighter in color and has a more mild (white like) flavor. I think the substitution will be unnoticeable in such a spicy cookie. Or it could be an expensive mistake!! But I only mixed up half a batch in order to test my theory. I am helping Arlene with her Christmas tree on Sunday and I want to bring some over for her. She is the lady I've made krumkaka with - she grew up in North Dakota and is a very good Lutheran. Anyway, hopefully I've increased the health quotient of a Christmas cooked and hopefully it will be edible!

New Shoes!
My new shoes are great! My feet are old and they have been all kinds of sore for ages - and my running shoes were probably just making it worse. These new shoes are great and feel really comfy. Well know how they stand up in a few days I suppose.

Fun Things
Well, I had another really good run this morning. Total running time was 32:34! Yep, better then Monday's time! It is that first mile that is really dragging me down. For the past couple of weeks (actual running weeks, that is!) I've been consistently clocking in at 11:37 or so. But if not that exact time, just a few seconds off. My final two miles are where I'm seeing marked time improvement. So I'll need to focus on that first mile a bit more. I suppose my body is warming up in mile 1. Maybe I should do some hill work to help with my pace.
The other thing I am excited about is that I got a new pair of running shoes! For the first time in probably three years. Yeah, that's bad. I know. I am really excited to give them a try tomorrow.

Still foggy - no ghosts!
I really didn't want to get up today! I even went beyond my usual snooze count, but I had to put a stop to that when I realized what I did. So I got up, read the funnies, drank coffee, and went for a run.
I had a really good run today and felt like I beat my time yesterday - felt like I rand harder. Alas, that was not the case! My time today was 33:04. Which I'm still happy about! It is just funny how my perception was fully different then reality.
Foggy and COLD!!! again today, but not as foggy as yesterday. Ponces was dinner tonight so I imagine I have to do six (hundred) miles tomorrow!

Fun Run
Well, shoot! I'm tired! It is 8:26 PM and my teeth are brushed. I'm just about ready for bed. Note to self, do not stay up until 1 AM playing Storm the House. (by the way, I totally won!)
I had a really good run today. Felt good to be back at it and my head feels so much better.
It was so neat outside this morning! Really foggy. Very moist out there. Every time I blinked it felt like my eyelashes were crying! Of course, I had to be really careful due to decreased visibility. And fear of slipping. And the ghosts that live in The Fog!!!

I never post here on Sunday because it's my day of rest. But I'm on vacation today so here I am. Took the Beach Boys with me on the walk today and enjoyed being with them. Woke up to an inch of snow on everything and it's still snowing some now. Not expecting much more though. Poppa and I are going to church at West Immaneul this morning. Good Morning
Getting back on track here. I did walk on Thursday morning and again today but skipped yesterday. Didn't sleep well Thursday night and just didn't have the energy yesterday morning. Feeling better today though so must have slept better. I've read the last few notes but can't remember what you talked about now except keeping track of your time on here. Oh, and rain. Good for fire season! Their treadmill is working fine here so no problem walking. Taking the Beach Boys with me now the next couple of days. We're heading home later this morning. Have a good day.

Catching Up
I did get up an exercise yesterday morning - even though you would not know it due to my lack of a post!
It was a good run. My mantra was "the faster I run, the faster I'm done"! I actually think I'm really lucky to NOT have a treadmill. I really trend toward lazy. When I'm 1.5 miles away from home and ready to quit....well, I still have 1.5 miles to return!
I really like having this watch. Yesterday I was thinking "I'm really kicking a$$ on this run!" but, no. My time was just a few seconds shorter then Monday. Well, if felt great and that is what counts!
I seem to have entered a non-sleeping phase again. We'll see. But I did not sleep well Tuesday although that was OK because it was pouring rain! So I listened to that all night. It was fun. It is raining again today. I wanted to run again today, but I'm going to play it by ear.
I'm going to start keeping track of my times here. Yesterday I jogged 3 miles. My time was 34 minutes and 22 seconds. So that is about 11 minutes and 27 seconds per mile.

Yay!
Well, I finally dragged myself out of bed this morning and got in a great jog! I did not sleep well last night, so I was not sure what I would tell myself this morning when my alarm when off. And, actually, when it first went off I thought "Oh, hell no!" And then a few minutes later I figured what the heck and got up. And I'm so glad I did! I actually felt a lot less crabby today then on Monday and I think it is because I got it together and ran.
I had an interesting conversation with Jessica today. I told her that I needed to figure out how to maintain my motivation. And she said something to the effect of 'this stuff happens. The key is getting started again. So rather then beating yourself up about having a bad exercise week, give yourself kudos for picking up again today.' And I agree!

Yes, we did have a busy day yesterday. But got a lot done, too. so that was great. I estimate we are about 80% done with our Christmas shopping! Hurray! I walked with our friend, Barry, this morning. Haven't taken him along for a long time now it seems. Anyway, had a good walk. However, I am up 2 pounds since Friday and I want to know how in the hell that happened!!! Thinking of new titles....it is tough!
Another shiny/happy day here in San Diego. It really got warm actually! To hot to exercise at lunch. Good thing I got up in the am! I had a good run in the morning. I'm having a lot of fun with my new watch. I always though it, but now I know that I run faster after the first mile. I guess my body warms up and gets into the routine.
I had a kind of late night tonight and, obviously, I did not make my 10 PM bedtime! I'll probably sleep in tomorrow and get some exercise at lunch. But no matter when, I'll let you know!

Good morning. I've had 2 mights of pretty good sleep and feel so much better than I did a couple days ago. Plus the sun is shining here this morning which helps, too. Have been for my walk and now getting started on the day. I'm making beef and barley vegetable soup for our supper and it smells good already! Started putting the Christmas lights on the house yesterday afternoon and may finish that today. Also have to pay bills and get ready for a payday. So, a busy day coming up. It's 1 am somewhere!
I'm tired! But it is Friday and only just after nine so I can't go to bed yet! But I'll tell you what, I'm not long for this level of consciousness.
This morning I ran, and it was pretty good. Except that I really didn't want to do it! But I made the usual deals with myself. "You can quit whenever you want - just run for 15 minutes." "You are almost 1/2 way done. Then you can just walk." "Holy crap woman! It is only 30 minutes out of your day! Suck it up!" Things like that!
At lunch I did the five hills run. Jogging up and walking down my local hill five times. Why did I do it? I DON"T KNOW! I kid. I get so bored over lunch. I always bring my lunch, so it is not like I am taking time to drive somewhere and pick something up. So it helps to do something for at least half of my lunch. Cause I sure as heck am not going to work!
After work, we went over to the batting cages and hit tons of balls. It was a festival of little kids, let me tell you!
For someone who was adamantly opposed exercising, I sure got a lot of it today!
This morning I ran, and it was pretty good. Except that I really didn't want to do it! But I made the usual deals with myself. "You can quit whenever you want - just run for 15 minutes." "You are almost 1/2 way done. Then you can just walk." "Holy crap woman! It is only 30 minutes out of your day! Suck it up!" Things like that!
At lunch I did the five hills run. Jogging up and walking down my local hill five times. Why did I do it? I DON"T KNOW! I kid. I get so bored over lunch. I always bring my lunch, so it is not like I am taking time to drive somewhere and pick something up. So it helps to do something for at least half of my lunch. Cause I sure as heck am not going to work!
After work, we went over to the batting cages and hit tons of balls. It was a festival of little kids, let me tell you!
For someone who was adamantly opposed exercising, I sure got a lot of it today!

Sunglasses
I broke down and bought a couple of things. First, sunglasses. And, man! Are they a pain with running. I suppose I just have to get used to wearing them. Also, I bought a timer. Wristwatch style. That is how I can confirm to you that I am running 11 minute miles! Pretty exciting. Well worth my 15 dollar investment for both items. Although those sunglasses had better watch out! I might decide I would rather have five of those 15 dollars returned!
I did get up and run this morning. Beautiful day here. One thing I really like about exercising in the morning is watching the day come alive. Really enjoyable.
I also had a good eating day. I always bring my lunch to work, but sometimes I just have a snacking breakdown. And we have all kinds of unhealthy snacks at work! Anyway, I ate a bigger lunch then usual and it really helped me through that afternoon M&M and animal cracker time!

I did it!
I just could not make myself get up this morning. So I didn't! I slept until 7:30 or so, then got up and just kicked around.
I did run at lunch today, though. And I am so glad I did. I was feeling crabby at work and some guilt about not exercising in the AM. So that helped a lot.
I ran 3.23 miles (per walk/jog/run) and I am pleased to report that I did 11 minute miles! Maybe that 10 minute mile is not such a pipe dream!

I'm Tired!
I have had such a busy week! I did something or other every single night after work. Today I have a garden meeting this AM and then garden work that I need to accomplish. Tomorrow I have a morning coffee date with a pal.
My exercise for today will be gardening. Yesterday I ran in the morning and then I did do some hill running at lunch. That works well (when I feel like doing it!) because it is good exercise but only takes about 30 minutes. Boy, I sure could tell it had been a while since I had done the hills! I am going to try and make sure I do it 3 times a work week.
I really want to make some root vegetable beef stew but I have not found the recipe I want yet. I did find one that is 1000 calories per serving! Crazy!

New Goal
I have been getting exercise in, but I have been eating a lot and I don't really feel committed. I need to do something again to dedicate myself. The 30 day goal was great. I'll have to think of something new. I have basically quit exercising at lunch, so maybe that will be my goal.
Well, today I did get up and run. And it was nice! Again, really glad to have it light earlier. Helps a lot. Although I had the living daylights scared out of me this morning as a car came out of a blind (to me) alley! Poor guy was just creeping along and didn't come anywhere near to touching me, I just was surprised. And I think my reaction scared him just as much as I was scared!

BRRRR!!!
That title is all caps because I mean it! It is dang cold out here! But, what the heck. My heart is warm when I think about my new President!
I went to bed pretty late last night -12:00, I guess. But I got up and ran and actually had a really great pace. A little over 11 minutes per mile I think. I really need to get a timer. Anyway, a good run.
I'm enjoying the earlier light, too. Makes it safer on the road.
We have officially quit Bollywood. I'm sad only because it should have been 100% fun. But Jessica received a 50% refund (because she requested after they typically are willing to refund anything). Based on the email I received from them this evening, I think I will get at least a 50% if not 100%. Well, Jessica will since this was an early Christmas gift.
The point is, no more Bollywood class updates for this blog!

Exercising
Well, this morning I exercised my right to vote! And it was really, really exciting. I have butterflies in my stomach even now!
That said, I did not get up and run this morning. I did get up at the "usual" time, but I did the necessary things to become a functional human being and then I walked over to my polling station. So I did get a mile of walking in this morning.
I took Friday and Sunday off. Saturday I did so much work in my garden, it was just crazy. I was so sore Sunday! Monday morning I got up and ran.
I hope to be back at it tomorrow AM but I just got home from an election (YAY!!!!!) party, so we shall see what the morning brings!

I completely forgot about this today! Must be because we are having gorgeous weather and I took my walk outside this morning. Was very nice. I wish this could last all winter. But, then, if it did, I would be living in San Diego instead of Wisconsin! Well, that wouldn't be all bad either.

Good Morning
Up and at it again. Mad about it, too, because I was supposed to sleep in this morning. Woke up at 10 minutes to 6! Didn't get up until 6:30 though when I heard the boys up and around. No fair. But had my walk and said goodbye to the Waelchli's. Now going to get some things done around here. Need to help Poppa with his new computer some, too. Poor guy can't remember from one day to the next how to do things. Feel sorry for him. So, we'll see what we can accomplish today.

I'm tired!

I got up this morning and ran. I actually had a really vivid work dream and sort of came out of sleep at the end. I feel betrayed by my sleep! Dreaming about work?? So I got up. And ran.
I hate to say it, but I skipped Bollywood tonight. My partner in crime couldn't go so I took a free pass and went to WFS.

Two things - first, I noticed that even though I got an error message my entry posted twice. When I went to edit my existing posts so I could delete one, I had the two successful posts and a draft of the same! Weird!

Soreness of the Garden Variety
I did so much garden work on Sunday but I am really surprised at how sore I feel! New muscles!
I did get up and run on Monday and Tuesday. I just want to make sure I get back on the morning run. It sets the tone for my day.
Monday I walked at lunch. Not a heart pumping walk, but it was good to get out of the office and away from my desk.
Today I did not walk at lunch. Rather I went to the post office to pick up a package from Miss Amy! Super fun and filled with awesome Pampered Chef stuff!
As an aside, this is my second attempt to publish this post. I know you have gotten an error before so I wanted to share with you what I did to reclaim my post! Cause I'm lazy and did not want to retype. Anyway, I just hit my browser back arrow. And here was my entry! What can I say but w00t!

Catching Up!
Friday I had a really good lunch time hill run. Five up (obviously five down!)! Saturday I slacked. I just had a lot of house work stuff to accomplish. Today I spent three hours gardening! I know it is not going for a run, but it's work! A lot of weeding, hoeing, shoveling and such.
Last week I really struggled. After the groin incident on Monday, I really did not even try to run in the morning. I'm going to really make an effort this week.
Well, WCPE is playing Beethoven's 9th in its entirety right now. Pretty exciting so I am off to listen to that!

I'm alive!
Sorry I have been a posting slacker.
On Wednesday I had Bollywood class and on Thursday I ran at lunch and then hit a few balls at the batting cages after work.
I am over this week. It has been long, stressful, and tiring.

Another day, another walk. What else can I say? Woke up at 5:12 this morning and have no idea why. I really hate that. Didn't get up until 6:00 though. Going to make today a short day and come home early. Have started working on my trains again so will continue that when I come home. Poppa has offered to get KFC for our supper tonight so that's nice. I won't have to cook! Fixed us meatballs, potatoes, and gravy last night and it was good. Tomorrow night we are invited next door for supper to celebrate Mike's birthday so I'm actually getting off pretty easy while she's gone this time. Have a good day.

Good Morning
Hi. Up and at it. Took the Beach Boys with me this morning for my walk. Took our confirmation kids to a corn maze last night for a fun night and I nearly froze to death! Had a sweatshirt on plus my big winter parka but was still cold. Rained a little, too, so that didn't help. Kids had a good time though. Mom is in De Pere and having a good time I'm sure. A day of slack
I had such a fantastic night of sleep last night! I went to bed pre-10 PM and slept till 7:30. My alarm went off at 6 but I decided I could use a day off that groin muscle.

1. Man is it cold here in San Diego. Here is my new theory on Global Warming: You know how some people believe that hell is actually freezing because sometimes you can get so cold it burns?* Well, that is what I think we have happening here with Global Warming. It is actually just getting so cold that some people think it is getting extra hot. I'm ready for my Nobel Prize any time!
2. I had a good jog this morning. Then I decided to do some squats and lunges. Why, you ask? Because my Bollywood teacher had us do them on Wednesday and I have been in agony ever since. Seriously. So I figured that is a hint that I should add some to my workout. I did my squats this AM and then, on lunge number 2, I pulled my groin muscle. I wanted to curl up into a ball of misery. But I shook it off! But I've been hurting all day. I did not walk at lunch and, honestly, I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I am going to play it by ear.
3. A numbered list simply cannot exist without a minimum of three points. Actually, as a good Lutheran, I also thing a numbered list should have a maximum of three points. Thus you get a point dedicated to gibberish.

Today my exercise was gardening. I have an astounding amount of work to do over there. Anyway, I walked to the garden and I think that is about 2.5 miles round trip. Then I spend a couple of hours working. I'm tired!

The danger of snooze
Well, dang if I didn't oversleep this morning! I thought I pushed snooze on my phone when my alarm went off. And I was semi-conscious and waiting for it to go off again. So I could push snooze again! When I checked the clock, I realized that I had turned my alarm off and "snoozed" for 30 minutes rather then 5!! Well, I got up and drank some coffee and went for a run. I was a little late leaving the house but I got it done.
I had really fun exercise at lunch today. I walked to the batting cages and hit a few balls! So maybe 35 minutes of walking and 20 minutes of ball hitting.
I am really glad I have moved my workout to the AM. We went out for dinner tonight. To a new Japanese restaurant. It was really good. And really fun. And really small! It only seats 32 people, the majority around a bar setup. Maybe 5 tables. Anyway, it is a small plate setup. Each item is around 5 bucks and it is enough to share with another person. No one item is a meal unto itself. So we ordered all kinds of different things! Edemame (which you like!), tempora tofu in miso, one bite pork, spicy chicken, asparagus wrapped in pork, rice cakes (one soy/one miso), and dumplings. Oh, and yogurt after! I don't even want to know how many calories I ingested! But I am so glad I got a run in this morning. I really doubt I would have had time to run after work.

Bollywood = Ouch
Last night was my first Bollywood class and am so sore! I can't believe it. I actually don't think it was the dancing itself. She made us do lunges and squats before we began. Note to self: you are weak! Start doing lunges and squats!
I got up this morning and ran although I am tired! I am pretty excited for bed tonight. My run was funny (as in weird - not "ha ha" funny). It is so dry that I did not sweat. At all. In fact, my hair was barely damp. And you are also blessed with loads of hair on your noggin, so I think you know what I mean! My hair just gets really sweaty. Not today. I thought I would get back and find that I took a 1 hour/3 mile run. But nope. Normal time!

Tonight I just came home and I have been having a calm and quiet night. I should empty the dishwasher. I should clean the kitchen. I should clean up my floors. But what I AM doing is relaxing!!

Informal Exercise
Hi! I'm still here!
Well, I've gotten informal exercise for the last couple of days. On Friday I did get up and jog and then we did all kinds of walking and touring. I may have already posted about Friday. If so, forgive me! My life has become a blur!
Saturday was busy, but we did not walk as much as Friday. We went to La Jolla and walked there. It was beautiful. And a beautiful day, too.
Sunday we hooked up with Bart and drove to Borrego Springs. Man was it cold! We hiked up Palm Canyon Trail and it was really just beautiful. Seems like it is waaaaaay more then a 3 mile round trip hike. But "they" say it is 1.5 in and 1.5 out, so I guess I have to believe them. Then we went swimming which only counts as exercise if shivering counts as exercise! That pool was freezing! No hot tub, which was sadness.
I have been eating way too much food. Yesterday we had breakfast out and then snacks at the hotel and THEN dinner. Good thing I'm not drinking - I have no idea how I would keep all those calories under control! Today we ate snacks for breakfast and then had lunch at Burgers and Beer in El Centro. Delicious. But I won't need dinner, that's for sure. I do have some creme brulee here that I made, so maybe we will have that later.
Today was more driving then walking. We did go up to Salvation Mountain, and it was fun to see as always.

And my iPod died half way through. Forgot to charge it last night when I saw it needed to be done. Oh well. Silence is nice, too. I guess. I'm walking inside now every day. Almost went outside this morning but only 44 at 7:30 so changed my mind. Going to be 72 today though and not a cloud in the sky this morning. I'm going to be outside working on the garden boxes all day. Then going to the ham dinner at church about 4.

My aching feet!
I did not sleep very well last night, so around 3:30 I decided that I was not going to worry about getting up to run so I turned off the alarm and my auto coffee. Then I woke up around 6:30 and I decided I would get up and drink some coffee and see if I could work it in. And I did! So I did get a 3 mile jog in this morning.
Then I went to work. And Jessica said "GO HOME!" so I did! That was really nice.
I made breakfast here. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and scones. Not really healthy but I put as many vegetables as I could in the eggs and potatoes. And, let's face it, it was healthier then eating breakfast out! And, obviously, less expensive!
Then we drove downtown and parked in Little Italy. Toured those ships at the embarcadero and then walked over to Seaport Village. I just did a walk/jog/run and we walked a total of 3.14 miles. The only bad thing is that the shoes I wore to work I wore to walk. Now my feet hurt! So my feet hurt and I am tired. I'm old!!

Then I went to work. And Jessica said "GO HOME!" so I did! That was really nice.
I made breakfast here. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and scones. Not really healthy but I put as many vegetables as I could in the eggs and potatoes. And, let's face it, it was healthier then eating breakfast out! And, obviously, less expensive!
Then we drove downtown and parked in Little Italy. Toured those ships at the embarcadero and then walked over to Seaport Village. I just did a walk/jog/run and we walked a total of 3.14 miles. The only bad thing is that the shoes I wore to work I wore to walk. Now my feet hurt! So my feet hurt and I am tired. I'm old!!

Already tired!

We are getting ready to hit the road - much to Josh's delight. I don't think we will have lunch till 2 or so, so getting a late start is cool. We are going to Coronado then to Mission Beach (roller coaster) then to Point Loma. Lunch will be at Point Loma Seafoods. I'm gonna make dinner here tonight.

Good morning I think. I woke up at 5 am! Grrrrr.....had the alarm set for 6 so don't know why I woke up an hour earlier. Must be living on mountain time. Had my walk with Simon and Garfunkel and heading into St. Paul today for an Intern-Supervisor meeting all day. Will stop at Regions Hospital to see Bob Vesperman, too, before coming home. Have fun!

Catch Up!
After I had been in bed for an hour last night, I realized I forgot my update! I got up in the am and ran. It was a good run. Till I totally ate pavement! I'm fine - my hand is just a bit scratched up. It was waaay too hot to exercise at lunch. I thought this was fall!
I also jogged this morning! Another good run. And I am glad I got it in.
Josh and I did some ocean wave running tonight so I know that counts for something!

Back at it!
Well, I just don't know what happened to me last week. I just was in some kind of funk. I had no desire to exercise (or eat right!) and as the week went on I just became more crabby!
I got up this morning, and drank coffee and then went for a run! Yay. I'm glad because I feel like I'm back on track. Then this afternoon I did the five hills jog again. It does not take that long, but it is tough!

Another rainy morning here so walked inside again today. Listened to an old Kingston Trio album I had in high school! We're going to Sam's, Cub, Target, and the Eddie Bauer Outlet store today so that will be more exercise!
I cleaned out my garden on Saturday so everything is now done and gone. Still working on the new boxes for the raised beds. Wanted to work on another one yesterday afternoon but it rained. Maybe next weekend I'll get back out there.

Weekend Roundup
Well, I don't have much to lasso for you in this weekend roundup! I've been stressed and I just decided to focus on house type things.
I did exercise my baking muscle! I actually feel more organized and prepared for this company then I ever have before. So you really should come and see what it is like!!
I made scones, and an orange cake, and cookies. Oh, muffins. And right now I am making hard candy. I bet you would love it - it is anise flavored!
I am really pleased about these bran muffins I made. They have four mashed very ripe pears and minced candied ginger. I know it sounds weird but wow did they turn out delicious!

Ouch!
I'm sore! Gardening is hard work! Well, I just have a lot of work to do to get it ready. So, let me tell you that I am sore!
Yesterday I did some hill running. There is a small hill near work that I ran up (and down) five times.
Wow, was I crabby today. And that is just so unusual for me - especially since I quit drinking. But I was just crabby and upset and anxious feeling. I saw an image today from 1993 - it won the pultizer in 1994. Of a tiny little African girl struggling to get to a food station. And a vulture right behind her. And I thought, wow, Julie. GET OVER IT!!! Quite the attitude adjustment. It is amazing to contemplate that my neighbors in the world are starving like that, but I live in a country with such abundant food that I have to exercise to be in shape.
I am thinking of starting a garden blog. I'll bring my camera over with me tomorrow when I go to work. That way you can see what I'm working with here!

The three sleeps
I feel like I have three ways of sleeping. The first is to just pass out and sleep like a rock. The second is to feel like I did not sleep at all - even though I know I did. The third is to feel like I did not sleep at all - and to know that I really did not sleep at all!
Well, Monday night was the first kind - I slept long and slept hard. Last night I for real did not sleep at all. Based on that, I turned my coffee pot timer off at 4 AM and let myself sleep in this morning. So I did not jog in the AM.
Then, at lunch, I was half way down the stairs and I realized it was so hot that it was actually foolish to exercise. It was just that hot.
But after work I did get some good exercise! I officially took over my garden plot today, and it is a mess! Weeds like I can't believe. So I worked on that for a while. I suppose it will take some time to get the plot ready. But it is fun!

Today's Update
Today: I did nothing! Nada. Zilch. No exercise whatsoever!
Last night I went to bed at 9. As in, I was under the covers and practically snoring (I do not snore!!) by 9 PM. I did not get up until Zoey made me, which was around 7:30. I was just that tired. Then I did not get to walk at lunch today. THEN I had a date with one of my girlfriends tonight. I went over to her house for dinner after work.
So, I slacked!

Rainy Monday
We actually had some rain!! Which means the sky dribbled on us - a drop or two! I really really did not want to get up this morning. But I did! I decided to jump rope. So I did that and some arm things. Wow is jumping rope good exercise!

It's getting pretty lonely around here! But I walked outside again this morning and it was nice. Had a little rain overnight so that's good, too. Went a different route today. Down to 140th and then east instead of west. Have been avoiding that way because there's a little hill there but not as bad as I imagined. Neil Diamond went with me today.

Good Morning
I think. I intended to sleep until 7:00 this morning and skip my walk because I'm going to see Josh in a dualathon (?) at 9:00. Not sure what that is but going to see him anyway. However, much to my consternation, I woke up at 5:22!!!! Not a happy camper. Laid there until 6:10, finally said to hell with it, and got up. Did go for my walk and now getting ready to head out. Still dark when I left the house this morning but temp was 55 so nice. Wonder how much longer this nice weather can last. Now today I'm back down 1 lb. Go figure.

Good Morning
Much warmer here this morning and didn't need my big sweatshirt. Was sweating quite a lot by the time I got home. Good walk though. However, I'm up a whole pound today! How can that be? I go up and down a pound all the time. Mom says it's "water weight" whatever that is. Have another long day coming with wedding rehearsal at 6:30 tonight. Have a good one.

I'm for bed!
Well, shoot, I almost forgot to post! I wait till the evening because I never know if I might do something exciting after work that I want to include. Turns out, today I did!
I got up to jog this morning. It was a good jog - I felt really strong. Then we went to the batting cages tonight after work! We went to a different one tonight. The tokens are a bit more expensive but you get more pitches per token. Anyway, it was fun to branch out. I'm doing better, too! Next thing you know I'll be batting for the Padres. Don't worry - you can be my Water Boy!

Fun Exercise
Today I woke up about 5 minutes before my alarm went off. I did not get up....just woke up! That's progress anyway!
I jogged this morning. It was good. Then I was abandoned at lunch today - hm.....seems to be happening a lot recently! I think that the newness of a lunch walk has worn off for my partner. I usually walk at lunch anyway, but since she joined me it has become a more serious walk for the entire lunch hour. I like doing it - don't get me wrong. That said, my heart will not be broken if I go back to the 30 minutes of eating/30 minutes of moseying that I did before.
Anyway, today at lunch I really did not feel like walking either! So I took myself down to the batting cages and hit a few balls! It was really fun. I am glad I decided to go. I can't afford to make that a regular thing at lunch but I sure can do it once in a while!

Another nice morning. Little cooler this morning though and wished I had worn some gloves. But managed to do it anyway. Had 9/10 " of rain last night. big thunder and lightning storm right after supper and rained most of the evening. Hurray. That Hankel dog scared the liver out of me this morning. She always runs out to you and barks and barks and scares me but this morning she jumped up on me and nearly knocked me over. Might have to quit walking north and risk the traffic on 140th instead every day.

The difference of a few minutes
Funny jog this morning. Usually I don't bump into too many people. Today it was like a Disney movie with people dancing and singing....
My goal is to get out of the house by 7 AM. I have been leaving anywhere between 6:40 and 6:55. This morning I left at 6:59! And I tell you, busy times out there!
I jogged this morning and then did some walking at lunch. It was a nice day. Cold in the office though, so it was great to get outside!
This is short and sweet because I'm for bed soon. I was really tired last night. I went to bed at 9:40!

Tired!
I think I'm catching up on all the sleep I did not get last week! I am tired tonight.
I had a difficult time getting up this morning. Actually snoozed three times! That is very rare for me. But I did get up and I did jog this morning. Not the most energetic jog in the history of the world, but it happened!
Also took a brief walk at lunch. I was solo so I just did a mosey for 40 minutes or so.
I had a healthy eating day today, too.
I'm for bed in the very near future!

A day of rest
I am taking today as I day of rest. Why? Because I have been busy since the moment I got up and I'm tired!
I had a busy (and expensive!) day. How to be an adult meeting followed by coffee with a girlfriend who just returned from Russia. Then I went to the tire shop and had an oil change. Followed up by general errand running. Included in this busyness was a trip to Home Depot.
Yesterday I jogged and walked. I got up and jogged in the AM and then had a good lunch walk with J. I got up every day last week and exercised in the morning! That was great.

Busy Day
I've not slept well for the last few nights, but I think I will tonight!
I got up at 6 again this morning and jogged before work. I might just be able to make this work! I've made it enjoyable, though. I get up and my coffee is ready and waiting. So I drink some coffee and read some comics. Then I am ready to roll! Anyway, I did three miles this morning. Again, I felt good about the pace.
J and I walked at lunch. Hill walk - no tripping over manhole covers for me!
Then the day finished up with fun at the batting cages! That was great. I really love going.
So, lots of activity today.

286!
I just noticed that is our 286th post. Pretty impressive! Of course, we have been in existence since 2005...but still!
I got up again this morning and jogged! It felt good and I really feel like I have more energy. That makes sense since I'm not yet bogged down with the weight of my work world! Also, it is a lot cooler in the morning and I think that really makes a difference.
I had a solo walk at lunch today and it was really good. I did the hill route (twice natch!). It is funny - I really do not enjoy hanging out at the office during lunch. I don't mean hanging out and visiting with coworkers, I mean reading or something. I guess I have really made a habit of the lunch walk!
I was going to try and have a lunch date today, but work just fell apart on me. J was out of the office for part of the morning and there was training going on. That meant that I could not sneak out a bit early. Then one of our servers went down. Man! Talk about chaos! Although it did reaffirm my faith in the power of the reboot. Anyway, that was a bummer.
Then, tonight after I left work I got a flat tire! Thank goodness I was not on the 15 when that happened. I know I need new tires, so I was not totally stunned. But then I realized it was actually the one tire I just got last year! I will take it back to them and hopefully it is under warranty.
Holy smokes! How did this become a complaining blog?

I did it again!
Well, I'm amazed. I got up early two days in a row. I'm shocked!
I had a 3 mile jog this morning. 80s music all the way. Great way to start the day!
J and I walked at lunch. It was a bit cooler today so we did the hill route. Twice of course.
This will be short because I am tired and my mind is not working. I was so tired last night I went to bed at 9:45. Makes sense though, with the schedule shake up. It is not that gigantic of a change but it made me realize the the body really is a delicate machine.

I did it!
I cannot believe it, but I actually did get up and jog this morning! I'm glad, it felt good, and I did not have to talk myself into going after work.
But I did have to talk myself into getting up! I was right - the coffee was my saving grace. I was laying in bed thinking 'Why? Why?' when I got a whiff of coffee. Thought 1 was 'Oh, delicious coffee' and thought 2 was 'If I don't get up now it will be burned to a crisp when I do get up!' So, I got up!
It was a good jog this morning - obviously, it is so much cooler in the morning. It was also pretty foggy! Or there were a lot of ghosts out!
J and I did go for a walk at lunch today. It was not too out of control, but it was good to get the blood pumping in the middle of the day.
So I am going to try again tomorrow. I have the coffee ready - it is my not-so-secret weapon! One thing I will say, I am exhausted tonight. Hopefully I will get a good night of sleep!

When we last saw Julie.....

I did get some running (well, jogging) in this weekend. Today I decided that I am still in tumble recovery. My right Biceps Femoris Muscle feels like someone smacked it just once with an ice pick. It has been stiff and tender for days but during my jog today there was just ONE spot that was agony! Thankfully it started to object at the end of my jog.
What is the Biceps Femoris Muscle, you ask? Well, thanks to the magic of the intertubes you can find out by clicking here. Funny, I always thought it was the hamstring. Learn something new every day.
OK, here is my big announcement. I am getting up at 6 AM tomorrow. There. I said it. Now I must follow though. In an effort to ensure that I will get up at 6, I programmed my coffee maker to brew at 5:51 AM. My plan is to get up, drink some coffee, read some funnies, and then go for a jog. I want to kind of switch up my schedule so I can do garden things after work and not worry about exercising vs. gardening.
Speaking of which, there is a whole lot of work to be done in my plot. It is full of weeds. But that will be some good work for me and some of my plot cohorts have offered to help me. That said, I am not officially taking possession until 10/1. The garden leader (I imagine she has a title of some kind) initially said I could start right away but there are things that need to be removed from the plot and I really do not have any desire to relocate stuff for other gardeners. Cause I am kind a caring like that. So I told her that I did not want to take ownership till the beginning of the month at which time I assume anything in the plot has been abandoned. And I will either keep it or kill it!
I made pretty good (and physically unhealthy/mentally healthy) burgers over here this weekend. I made my patties (just an egg/salt/pepper) and wrapped them in prosciutto and grilled them on my Forman grill. Then I put them on a brichoe bun with a slice of blue cheese brie and sautéed shallot. Pretty delicious! I ended up getting nine little burgers out of my pound of meat, so I have scads of them in the freezer now. You should come over! I will let you pick out your own cheese - and I will sauté some mushrooms, too! I just did not think about it while I was at the store. Oh well. Next time!
Edited to add: How does setting my coffee maker ensure I will get up? Since I've turned poor I have also noticed I've turned cheap. It will kill me to think of that coffee cooked and burning. I hate to waste!

OK, here is my big announcement. I am getting up at 6 AM tomorrow. There. I said it. Now I must follow though. In an effort to ensure that I will get up at 6, I programmed my coffee maker to brew at 5:51 AM. My plan is to get up, drink some coffee, read some funnies, and then go for a jog. I want to kind of switch up my schedule so I can do garden things after work and not worry about exercising vs. gardening.
Speaking of which, there is a whole lot of work to be done in my plot. It is full of weeds. But that will be some good work for me and some of my plot cohorts have offered to help me. That said, I am not officially taking possession until 10/1. The garden leader (I imagine she has a title of some kind) initially said I could start right away but there are things that need to be removed from the plot and I really do not have any desire to relocate stuff for other gardeners. Cause I am kind a caring like that. So I told her that I did not want to take ownership till the beginning of the month at which time I assume anything in the plot has been abandoned. And I will either keep it or kill it!
I made pretty good (and physically unhealthy/mentally healthy) burgers over here this weekend. I made my patties (just an egg/salt/pepper) and wrapped them in prosciutto and grilled them on my Forman grill. Then I put them on a brichoe bun with a slice of blue cheese brie and sautéed shallot. Pretty delicious! I ended up getting nine little burgers out of my pound of meat, so I have scads of them in the freezer now. You should come over! I will let you pick out your own cheese - and I will sauté some mushrooms, too! I just did not think about it while I was at the store. Oh well. Next time!
Edited to add: How does setting my coffee maker ensure I will get up? Since I've turned poor I have also noticed I've turned cheap. It will kill me to think of that coffee cooked and burning. I hate to waste!

Good Morning
Cloudy here and looks and feels like it could rain but I got my walk in outside and didn't get wet. Alabama walked with me this morning and they did a good job of keeping me going. Have some piddly things to do around here today but nothing big. Sure glad I'm not living in Texas this morning! Have a good day.

Stress Relief
I can confirm that there is nothing like the batting cages to get work related crank out of the system! I my muscles are already feeling sore. Good sore, of course! I hit a good percentage of the pitches. And, yeah, I know I'm just playing for fun. But it is so much more FUN when I hit the ball!
Also walked at lunch today. I just did the hill once.
It is finally cooling off around here, which is exciting. I see some good sleep in my future! And hopefully all the neighborhood skunks will freeze!

O.U.C.H.
I am seriously considering taking some pain medication. That is a very serious step for me, and it speaks to how freaking, 100%, totally sore I am today! Sadly, no bruise. Yet. I still have some hope. Anyway, it has to be that tumble I took that is making me so sore.
That said, I did exercise today. Walked at lunch (alone and flat) and then I jogged after work. I felt loosened up after each outing but, after I cooled down each time, I am stiff and sore again. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
I had watermelon for a snack tonight and I can report that it is red! Pretty good. Flavor was good - 7 out of 10. Texture - PERFECT! I hate those watermelons that am mealy inside. I image they are just old or something. By the way, I read recently that watermelons with seeds are sweeter then the new fangled seedless kind.

I forgot!
I forgot to tell you that I took an epic tumble during my lunch walk today. It was during my first uphill. I was actually jogging this particular part of the hill. And I tripped! On an uneven manhole cover. In the sidewalk. Yes, there is a manhole cover in the sidewalk. And it is not flush. Anyway, I tripped and I went down! And rolled! I have great hopes for a stellar bruise on my left hip. I don't think it is going to happen, though. I'm not hurt at all. Just a little tender on the left hip. Oh well!
I have my fruit and veggies for tomorrow all chopped and ready to go. Coffee pot is ready, too. I'm really tired so I imagine I will be to bed soon. It is funny - I could not sleep at all last week. I think this week I'll do fine. Go figure.

Tired!
Whew! I did all kinds of exercising today. And all kinds of healthy eating.
My lunch walking partner is in Vegas this week, so I'll be solo during my day outings. Anyway, I did the little hill route I do at lunch. Did the hills twice. It was a really good workout! Then I went for a jog after work (sans iPod......may it rest in peace!). Three miles. I did not bring a time piece, so I am not sure about my pace - but I know it was good!
I ate well today, nuts, fruit, ww bread, hummus, and a bunch of veggies. Sweet red pepper, carrots, radish, and cucumber. I'll admit, I'm hungry for dinner!
By the way, I did jog on Saturday and then I took Sunday off.

Good Morning
Slept in again today! I could get use to this. Been for my walk and didn't see a soul this morning. Usually see at least one other person out on Saturday morning. Guess I was either too early or too late. Nice morning here. Still cool but perfect for the walk. We pickled 9 quarts of beets yesterday, froze 4 bags and had some with supper. Still eating corn, too, and actually getting tired of it! Can't believe I said that but it's true. Still have one whole row I haven't picked from and ears in other rows that weren't ready when I went through. Been eating it every day, giving it away, and have 24 bags in the freezer. Never had a corn crop like this one in all the years I've gardened! Not sure what's on the calendar today. Wheels and Wings in Osceola and Megan is singing the national anthem at the tractor pull at 11:00. Would like to hear that and bum around a little but don't know how Mom can go with me. So, we'll see. Have a good day!

Fun Times!!
First, for the life of me I cannot remember to do pushups. It must be a purposeful subconscious block. Anyway, I'm recalling right now. And I'm NOT gonna do them!
Yesterday was a really fun exercise day. I walked with J over lunch. We did the flat route, which is three miles. Then it was a night of batting cages last night! I even have two blisters. Pretty exciting!! By the way, the fast pitch softball is terrifying!
Today I walked alone at noon, so I did the hill route (twice up the gigantic hill). I just walked today, no jogging the hill. After work I jogged three miles around Kensington. So two good exercise days.
Yesterday we had the Muffin Off at work so my eating was not totally healthy. But it was delicious! OK, some of it was more delicious then others.......

I am taking today off as my Labor Day. Woke up at 6 like usual but rolled over and didn't get up until 7:30. Nice. Sun was up then when I walked so not so cool as the last two days. Going to pay bills, go to bank, and then some garden stuff to do. Gonna pickle some beets today and do some cleaning up out there.

Catching Up
At 2 AM, while I was doing my standard No Sleeping, I realized I forgot to post! I decided to wait, though!
I went for a good lunch walk yesterday - three miles. I did not jog last night as I had things after work and then I had to make muffins for the muffin off at work. I did not include chocolate chips in my muffins! Citrus Poppyseed. Good enough to finally win me a zombie t-shirt? I don't know. But they are good!

It was a cool walk this morning! Only 42 when I left the house and much of my route is in the shade so it was cold! But I warmed up as I walked and as the sun came up over the trees. Met the neighbors coming back from their walk as I headed out so they were up early this morning. Have a good day!

I'm back!
I don't know what my problem is, but I have serious motivational issues over the weekend! I ate garbage and did not exercise.
But today I'm back on the horse! J and I walked at lunch - 3 miles. 3 flat miles! It was good and we did not really rush, so it was pretty easy. Then I went for a jog when I came home. So glad I did! It feels good to get back into the routine. Today I listened to the 2006 Cities 97 CD. Until my iPod froze! Grrrr! Pretty frustrating. What is most frustrating is that I am not positive about what is causing it......oh, wait. Using it!
Healthy eating this way, too. Yep, bacon the horse! (typo - I'm keeping it)

I got wet on my walk this morning! Little shower came over us. Not soaking wet but enough to feel good! Another shower over us right now, too, and going to be off and on all day they say. Hope they are right! New Intern begins today so I'll spend the day with him getting him acqauinted and showing him around. Hope you feel better today.

Sorry! I've been feeling like a slacker, but I realized yesterday that maybe I just do not feel good. I officially had a noggin ache yesterday. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it! I'll be back at it tomorrow.

I slept in until 7 this morning but have my walk done and now waiting for Amy and the boys to head out. They're visiting with Grandma V now but she's pretty well packed up. going to be 90 here today and humid they say. Later in the week it'll cool off into the 70's. Not much on my plate today. Good Morning
I had a partner on my walk this morning! Angie was just starting at the same time so we walked together. Beautiful morning! I listened to old time country music and don't know what Angie was listening to. Now, Amy and I are gonna take the boys and Josh to Interstate Park to hike a little bit, then have a picnic lunch, and then swim in the lake! I haven't been in the Park for years and haven't been swimming there since you girls were little! So it'll be fun! I hope.

Good Morning
We have comapny! Amy and the boys walked in about 5 pm yesterday. Mom knew they were coming but it was a surprise to me! I was in the middle of cleaning, blanching, and canning 13 quarts of tomato juice! Anyway, glad they are here.
Got to walk outside this morning but it was cold! Only 45 when I left the house. Wore a long sleeve t shirt and a flannel shirt! But nice to be outside. Was plenty warm by the time I got home.

Tomorrow I'll hurt!
Yesterday and today I got a solid walk in at lunch. J and I did the hills.
Today I met Bart at the batting cages and we hit some balls. Let me tell you, that is work! I am tired! And when we left my muscles were quivering like jello! I said that I felt like a new born kitten.
I hear tomorrow is when the pain will set in. That said, I had a great time and hopefully we will do it again soon.

Something funny going on here. Tried to post and got an error message so will try again.
Walked inside again today. Had a half inch of rain overnight and still very misty and foggy out there this morning. Much prefer to be outside but soon I'll be inside every day so might as well get use to it. And I'm eating too much corn and butter these days because I'm up 1.6 lbs from my low! But tis the season to be jolly!

Good Morning
Had to walk inside this morning because we got a little rain shower just when I was ready to go. Not enough to do us much good but we'll take it. So walked on the treadmill with the Dixie Chicks. Think I work harder on the treadmill than I do outside. At least I was really sweating when I was done. Felt good though. Still doing 10 push ups and 10 sit ups after my walk, too. Will up that pretty soon I think. Maintaining my weight now in spite of all the corn and butter I'm eating every night! Can't resist that. Have a good day!

2/Day 2
Today is my official second day of my second round of 30 day goaling.
I had another day full of good exercise and good eating. J walked with me at lunch today and it was nice to have company again! We did the hill twice. Then I jogged when I got home - three miles. I listened to Rhonda Vincent today! Man, that's one short album! I ended my jog by listening to some Richard Cheese. So it was fun.
Also, I did some crunches tonight when I was done. That will be good for the core, don't cha know!
I am very tired and I hope to sleep well tonight. I had no coffee, no caffeine actually, after noon today so I should not have troubles.
I know I got my five fruits and vegetables in today. I had a plum, melon, peppers, radishes, carrots, and cucumbers! I'll probably have a peach before I go to bed. Yum. Peaches = sugar. Sugar = happy.

2/Day 1
So, I've been a total slack on the new 30 day goal. Reach back...waaaaaay back into those memory banks. I was going to do arms/core for 30 days. In addition to keeping up with the 30 minutes of exercise. I have been exercising but now doing my other stuff. Starting over!
I did pushups tonight! Girl pushups, but I did them all the same. I did 15.
I also did the hill jogging (up twice) at lunch and then a quick three miles after work. So a good day of exercise.

Hi there! Up and at it although I did sleep in until 7:00. Went for my walk and met the neighbors again this morning. They've been walking, too, the last week or so. Fun to see them! And fun to see them together! Walked with Rhonda Vincent this morning.
iPod batteries last forever! I've been trying to run it out for the last 3 days! Just want to see what happens when it finally has no juice left. Have it on right now just trying to wear it down. Icon shows no juice but it's still playing!

Roshambo: Popcorn, Chocolate, Hills
I made a goal yesterday and it was unanticipated. I was a solo walker again and I did the hill twice - it has sort of become my lunch "usual". I jogged down both times but yesterday I jogged all the way UP both times! It was slow and it was hard. But I did it! Yay! I was just going to jog a little further up then I did last time, but when I got there the firs time I thought "you can go just a little bit further". And I did. And I kept thinking that until I got to the top! Then I thought "for the second round I'll just go to my marker and walk up" but the same thing happened again! So I made it up both times.
I am getting so much stronger!
Then life took the opportunity to prove to me that there is balance in the universe. We went to see Pineapple Express last night (aside: So hilarious! I can't remember when I have laughed so hard. But like In Burges, another 100% fantastic movie, I cannot recommend it to any member of my family.) and had popcorn. And a lot of popcorn! Usually I don't like movie popcorn so much but I really wanted it and it was delicious. I also brought a chocolate bar I picked up at Eclipse before the movie. I rode my bike to get it, not far but still an additional 4 miles of movement.

Guess I forgot this yesterday! But back here this morning. Been for my walk on a beautiful morning. Listened to old time gospel music this morning. Not the best for walking but good for the soul! Had our first corn on the cob from the garden last night! Ummmm good! Nobody's corn is as good as your own. Also beans, cucumbers, tomatoes. I love eating in August! Best food of the year. Will be out in the garden much of the day. Have some cleaning up to do out there and will pick beans and maybe freeze some carrots. Brussell sprouts do not look good again this year! Very disappointing and I don't know what is going on. Back to my standby variety this year, too. Catch you later.

I'm tired!
Well, last night I did not sleep well and this morning I got up an hour early. What is happening in the world??
I am tired, so I'll keep this short and sweet. Like me!
My lunch walk was shorter (and easier/slower) then usual because I forgot my gym bag and J forgot her lunch. So we walked over to Vons. It was good to get out of the office.
After work I jogged for three miles. Then Bart and I went for curry for dinner tonight. So good - I'm still full and I have leftovers! I don't think it was unhealthy though. Then we walked around Pacific Beach. Pretty much we tried to avoid getting hit by cars or fighting with drunks. It was tough, believe you me!

What is tisane? Never heard of that. Also, did you get on a jury? Yes, mine was the Mountain Dew defense! Guess I've told that story! I don't know how you or anybody can jog for 3 miles! I do a quarter mile and that's enough for me.

Working it in
I've really been trying to make exercise part of my life. And I've actually been trying to live a more active life in general.
As you know, I had jury duty today. I parked in Little Italy and walked to the courthouse. I'm not sure of the distance. Maybe a mile. Obviously I walked from the courthouse back to my car! None of the coppers offered me a ride!
I also got home early enough to get a jog in. Three miles. I was pretty slow again today, but I'm not too concerned. It is not as though it is a race! Although a running partner might not be a bad idea. Anyway, I am really glad that I had time to jog.
Then I met my pal for coffee. Actually I had a tisane, since last Wednesday I could not fall asleep until 2! Then meeting time. It was really really good this week. Gave me a lot to think about.
I ate well today. I decided, for health and financial reasons, to bring my lunch with me today. What a pain! I did not spend money, but I paid for it in other ways! Anyway, I had a healthy eating day all day. Including this very moment - I'm eating grapes!

Hi again. Walked with Johnny Cash this morning. Folsom Prison album. Not my favorite but came up next on the iPod. Met two deer at the top of the driveway and they just stood there and stared at me for the longest time. They finally took off. Went to the dentist yesterday and got prepped for a crown. Mouth and jaw are still sore this morning. I hate the dentist. Always have and always will. Like Steven but hate his work! Have a good day.

Whew!
I'm tired today! I have been exercising a lot since Sunday, so it makes sense that I would feel worn. I also did not sleep the sleep of the dead (um....yay!) Sunday night or last night. Pretty sure I can solve this mystery by saying one word - COFFEE!
Today I did not have any caffeine after noon. And I can tell. I actually got a little noggin ache which I'm sure was related.
Anyway, onto the purpose of this blog! Which is not, contrary to my apparent believe, to have a forum for complaining!
I ate healthy all day. Cereal and fruit, more fruit, peppers, cucumbers, radishes, chili (with pineapple salsa -YUM), and ww lavish with hummus.
During lunch I had another solo walk. We've been down a man yesterday and today so we have been sort of adjusting schedules for lunches, that is why I've not walked with J. Although yesterday seemed like it was a different reason....but that was so long ago I cannot remember....man, I digress!
Anyway: Lunch! I did the hill walk again today - twice. Same as yesterday. Jogged down and then part of the way up. Walked the rest of the way. Repeat. Some additional jogging today, actually. It was good and I was sweaty!
I also jogged after work. 3 miles. Very slow, actually. Once I was out I just didn't feel too spicy, if you know what I mean. So I finished it up but I did not attempt to break any speed records!
I also needed to go to the bank tonight, so I walked over there after jogging. Sort of my cool down, I guess. Not sure of the distance for that little leg - under a mile. It's not far from my house. It is just on El Cajon Blvd and 33rd. The tow truck driver who had to deliver me gas there last week can attest to the location.......Moving on!
Tomorrow I won't be exercising my body. I'll be exercising my civic duty! Or maybe I'll be engaged in an exercise of futility! Anyway, I have jury duty. Generally I would consider this a nice faux vacation and really embrace the day. However, I have to be at the courthouse at 7:45!! YES - that is AM!!! Unbelievable. I've usually only been up for 9 minutes at 7:45!
So, I'm doing that and I am meeting a pal for coffee (I'm having tea this week!) then learn to be an adult meeting. So, I have a busy day. And I'm all kinds of worn out so I am going to appreciate the forced inactivity. Even if I don't appreciate getting up waaaay earlier then God ever intended.

At 10:45 PM yesterday I realized that I neglected to post. Since I was in bed I decided to play catch up today!
I had a lot of good exercise yesterday. I walked (solo) at lunch. I did the hill route that J and I have been taking. Because I was alone, I did the loop twice. I jogged down the hill each time and then jogged up the hill each time about 1/4 of the way. Wow is it difficult to jog up hills! I am going to keep working on it until I can jog the entire loop twice.
I also went for a jog last night. Three miles. My pace was really slow. I think it is because I have been feeling pretty stiff over the last few days.
Totally forgot to do pushups last night. By the time I remembered I was showered up. I decided to just call it a night and not worry about it!
All good eating yesterday. Other then cereal and bread (actually, whole wheat lavish) I did not eat any "processed" foods.
In other words, Yay me!!

Back on track with my routine today. didn't walk Sunday (day of rest!) or yesterday because of the stress test. But back on the road this morning. a little cool. About 60 when I walked. Going to 89 today though they say! Walked withe the Nylons this morning. 4.6 lbs below my goal weight both yesterday and today!

Well, dang Julie!!
Well, shoot! I did not realize that I went missing in action that long! Most sincere apologies all around!
Hm....OK, Wednesday I walked at lunch with J and it was great. We did the hilly walk. Then I did not exercise after work, but I met one of my friends for coffee. It was really fun and just as important as exercise, I think.
Thursday I rode my bike to Balboa. I met some pals there and we watched The Parent Trap, which was their movie under the stars. It was fun.
Friday I totally slacked!
Saturday I took the bike ride of doom! I told you about that and about "the hill".

Hey, things look different here this morning. What's the deal?
Been for my walk but had to wear a long sleeve tshirt and jeans this morning. Only 55 when I left the house! Warming up now though. Hi of 80 today but into the upper 80's over the weekend they say. No rain so will have to water everything again.

Good Morning
I was "California Dreamin" on my walk this morning. Have decided I need to get some new music. Have lots on there but seem to listen to the same things over and over. So, one of these nights I check out iTunes and see what I can find.
Talked to Mom again yesterday and they will be home on Monday. Leaving Saturday morning. Spend one night in Dickinson, ND and the next in Alexandrai, MN and be here Monday afternoon.
Had Joshua over for supper with me last night. Both folks were working. Then I had the Wednesday night service at 7. Only 9 people there besides me and Jodene playing the keyboard. Hardly seems worth it to me but other weeks we've had 25.
Cloudy here today and only 65 now. going to 80 so not too bad. Kind of humid though.
Off to work pretty soon. Have a good day!

Good Morning
Wow. You are really into this! 3 miles at lunch and 3 more after work! I can't imagine myself but good for you!
I kept a food diary last year when I was losing my weight. Used an online service. Can't remember the name. Oh, yeah, mycaloriecounter.com. Also tried fitday.com. Both about the same. Gives you the calories and all that for everything you eat. Had to guess at some things because what you make at home isn't always on their list. But I found it very helpful and it made me aware of what I was putting down my throat.
Walked this morning in extreme fog! Luckily, no traffic here!

2/Day 2 - Whoops!
I had a great exercise and eating day today!
Three miles at lunch - and these were hilly miles! I imagine I'll feel it in the rear when tomorrow rolls around. Then I jogged after work, another three miles.
It was a beautiful evening for a jog tonight. Really cool, actually. Felt like fall! I forgot to check the clock, so I don't know my pace for the distance I went. But it felt good and it was enjoyable. I find it is a really nice way to let go for the work portion of my day and get into the non-work relaxation portion of the day!
I read an article in the UT today about food journaling. They discussed a six month study where one group kept a food journal, the other group did not. The journaling group lost an average of 18 pounds over 6 months. The non-journaling group lost an average of 9 pounds over the same period. I wonder if journaling strictly helps us be aware of what we are putting in our bodies or if it speaks to a deeper overall commitment. Probably both. Anyway, I am going to give it a try. I did it today and, I will admit, it kept me out of some work snacks!
Edited to add: I forgot my "Whoops!" part! Totally forgot to do ab stuff tonight. I'll pick up my 30 day slack tomorrow!

Blah!
I'm taking a jogging break tonight because I am just really tired and lethargic. Have been all day, actually. I had to rely on my alarm to wake me up this morning and, even then, I did not feel like popping out of bed. I actually contemplated snooze! What is this world coming to!?!
I did walk at lunch today. J and I took a three mile jaunt, which was good. I fully intended on jogging tonight but...no.
OK, the new goal! It has been revised yet again. I am continuing with the 30 minutes of exercise every day. Same deal as before. In addition, I was going to do 6 weeks to 100 pushups. I got in position to do my training tonight....really easy for my level, actually. And that is when it came to my attention - I have NO upper body strength anymore! None. So, I am waaaaay reverting to a goal I contemplated right after I started the first 30 day project. I am going to switch off days and do pushups (girl style) and ab work for 30 days. I really need to work on some general strength prior to committing to the 6 week program.
So, that is the plan. 30 days of abs/pushups. And moving about for 30 minutes during each of those days. I do believe I can handle that!
P.S. I ate M&Ms and salty mix at work today. Damn them. I'll leave it to you to decide if I am cursing work or the snacks!

Weekend Stuff
I have not been posting, but I have been jogging! I ran three miles both yesterday and today. The good news is that I am getting so much stronger and I have really been cutting time off of my miles. I am averaging 12 minutes/40 seconds per mile right now. I'm not running with the wind, but it is leaps and bounds quicker then 30 days ago!
I walked often with J at lunch last week, and hope to keep that up. It was nice to get outside and up my exercise level a bit more. It is just so easy to live a non-moving life. I'm trying to change that!

Good Morning
We haven't posted anything new here since Wednesday? That's not right, is it?
Anyway, I'm at it. Slept until 6:45 this morning so walked a little later. The sun was up and it was already getting warm. But a nice walk with the Beatles. Sara Schmidt was out jogging so she passed my by 2 times once each way!
I'll be outside most of today working on the new raised beds for the garden. Just getting them cut and marked now and then hauling them out there (that's the worst part!) until October after the crop is done. Can't install them now or I'll ruin what's growing.
Josh and I had a nice time last night. Went to Logger's for dinner. I had ribs and he had chicken strips. Then to the movie. It was ok but not something I would see again. Fine to take your grandson to however.

Walkin and Talkin
I had a great walk today during lunch. Went with J again, and I am really glad we have declared one another our unofficial lunch walk buddy. I don't think either of us would have gone today and it sure makes it more enjoyable to be able to BS while walking.
It has been hot and humid here over the past few days, so I return to the office one sweaty mess! Good thing I have my own office!
I am already contemplating what I will make Sunday for lunches throughout the week. I'm open to ideas!

Good Morning
Me again. I walked around the field 3 times and then up to the mailbox to get the paper and that made 35 minutes. I don't really like walking in the field though because I can't walk as fast or jog for my quarter mile because the ground is so uneven and I'm afraid I'll break an ankle or something. So, probably won't do that so often. Nice walk there though. Today I'm back on 180th Street. If I go south to 140th Ave and then north to 150th Ave and then back home that's 2.2 miles. I drove it yesterday to find out. That takes 35 minutes, too. They're talking this morning about "maybe" showers later this afternoon. Of course, since I watered all the flowers and the garden last night! Have a good day.

Day 30!!!!!
Can you believe it?? I sure cannot! Wow, this was a great exercise and I am really glad that I made a commitment to exercise for 30 minutes every day for 30 days. And actually successfully met my goal!
Today J and I walked at lunch. I am not sure how far but we were gone for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I bet it was over three miles. And the HILLS. Ouch!! It was a challenging walk, no question.
I am calling it quits for the day, exercise wise. I'm tired and I feel sore! I'll figure something out for tomorrow.

Walked with Barry again this morning. Have 3 playlists with him so working (and walking) through them. Changed my route a little this mornig and it added 5 minutes so ran out of songs. I have my playlists all set to 30 minutes so I know when I'm done. Another beautiful day here. Back to work and not real anxious to go but anxious to get the first day done with. Mom and them had a good travel day yesterday but she said in email that Grandma was exhausted last nght and said this was the last time she would make this trip. Hope they have a good time.

Day 29
Well, this little 30 day experiment just confirms that time does fly! Might as well encourage it to fly healthy!
I got in a lot of exercise today. J and I walked at lunch. We did three miles in one hour, so 20 minute miles. I was sweaty by the time we were done! It is nice to get out of the office in the middle of the day and get the heart pumping.
I also jogged three miles when I got home tonight. Just felt like it! So that was good. Listened to The Beatles which makes any endeavor more fun!
Also had a healthy eating day. So it was good all around!
So....did you take today off since you walked yesterday? I hope you sleep well tonight so you have a happy first day of work tomorrow!

Day 28
Boy, am I getting close to having to decide upon a new goal!
I was, again, successful with this 30 day goal! 3 miles today. I am not positive of the time other then the fact that is WAS over 30 minutes. I do not know if the day will ever come that I am running a 10 minute mile again. We shall see! That will be my ultimate goal.
It was a nice day for a jog, but hot. Well, let me rephrase - I apparently waited for the hottest part of the day to get out and about!
Farmer's Market today, as you know. Since I already told you! Man, those grapes are good. So glad I got them. Purple beans today, too. And, of course, figs!!!
I just took a 15 minute nap. I actually try not to nap because I am afraid of not sleeping at night. But I just could not help it, so I gave in. It was only 15 minutes or so but I feel more refreshed.
I'm torn about my next 30 days. It is either going to be a strength goal (push ups/core) or a specific distance. I am leaning toward distance because I want that kind of activity (jogging) to become a true daily habit.

I usually don't walk on Sundays but this being my last Sunday of vacation and all I did. Walked 3 times around the field and then up to the mailbox to get the paper and that was 32 minutes so I ran out of music! Had a 30 minute playlist going. Your guy...Barry Manilow. Very windy here today but nice otherwise. Mom, Grandma, Poppa, and Megan are leaving tomorrow morning for the farm. Yesterday Josh was all set to go, too, but came over this morning to say he's changed his mind. He was so lonesome that week over in De Pere. Of course, he didn't say that but we could tell. Anyway, he's gonna stay home with his Dad. And me! Have a good day.

Day 27 Revisited
I'm catching up over here!
I am so tired from this darned flu that I've been doing a whole lot of nothing! On purpose! That said, I had a really good jog today. I took my new Kensington route and added a couple extra loop-de-loos and, according to walkjogrun.net, I traveled 3.75 miles. I think it is safe to imagine that with my warm up and cool down walking that rounds up to 4 miles. Anyway, it was nice to get back on the horse.
And I am glad I decided to get back on the horse today. The power of the mind is amazing. Initially I was thinking I was too tired to run so I would just walk. Then I decided I would just jog as long as I wanted and I could always stop and walk. Well, I jogged and it was not difficult. It felt good and I felt strong. So, as I was planning, I made an assumption. I am glad I decided to challenge that assumption!
So.....apparently pulled a muscle on my left side. Weird because it is not a leg muscle - it is above my hip and below my ribs. Man. I'm ignoring it for now!
Saw one of my coworkers jogging when I was out. Small world and all that.
I am so tired from this darned flu that I've been doing a whole lot of nothing! On purpose! That said, I had a really good jog today. I took my new Kensington route and added a couple extra loop-de-loos and, according to walkjogrun.net, I traveled 3.75 miles. I think it is safe to imagine that with my warm up and cool down walking that rounds up to 4 miles. Anyway, it was nice to get back on the horse.
And I am glad I decided to get back on the horse today. The power of the mind is amazing. Initially I was thinking I was too tired to run so I would just walk. Then I decided I would just jog as long as I wanted and I could always stop and walk. Well, I jogged and it was not difficult. It felt good and I felt strong. So, as I was planning, I made an assumption. I am glad I decided to challenge that assumption!

It's me again! See my email note to you about my doctor visit yesterday. Didn't mention there, however, that my blood sugar, triglyceride, and cholesterol numbers are all great. Feel very good about that. Walked this morning with the Oak Ridge Boys singing old time gospel songs. Some good, some not so good. Another gorgeous day on tap here. Had a nice birthday party for Josh last night. Angie left on her youth mission trip to Mexico this morning. Mom, Grandma and Poppa are leaving for Montana on Monday (I think). That's all the news from Lake Wobegone.

Day 26 Revisited
I call a do-over!!
I am sort of back in the saddle. No jogging today - I'm just not up for that level of exercise. But I did a lot of walking. I walked for 40 minutes at lunch today. Maybe 2.5 miles. Not sure exactly. But it was really nice to take a break and get some moving about in. After work I went for a totally non-health walk. A mosey really. I was out for an hour and did my 3.5 mile loop. So that is good!
Eating was good today until we had cheesecake for my coworker's birthday! His 12 year old son made it (and was there for the eating) so obviously I HAD to have a piece. Just to be nice, of course. I mean, it is not like I actually LIKE cheesecake! No!
I am feeling so much better. I really had a pounding headache all night last night. Tonight I am just worn out but no headache and my stomach is stable. Road to recovery!

Was up at 6 this morning! Had my devotions and my walk and then had to be at the OMC clinic at 8 am for blood work. Checking my levels. Now just finished breakfast. We didn't get a drop of rain yesterday! It all went south of us. So I watered the garden last night. Jeff and Stacy arrived about 4 pm and visited until 5:30. Then they went to their races at Cedar Lake and i don't know when they came back. Still in bed this morning so I haven't seen them today yet either! We're celebrating Josh's birthday here tonight so that's when he'll find out about his big trip coming up in October.

26/27
Another day off over here. Tomorrow might be as well. I may decide to call a redo on 26 and 27!
I am feeling a lot better, I am pleased to report. I plan on going to work tomorrow. I went to the doctor this morning and all they did was charge me 10 bucks to tell me what I already knew! Oh well. The good news is that my blood pressure is 112/71 and my pulse is 49, which I gather is really good.
Question for you: do you weigh yourself every day? I am thinking I might start doing so. I imagine on one hand it could be kind of discouraging. On the other hand, I tend to make some poor food choices (don't ask!!!). I think a daily weigh in might discourage that somewhat.
What do you think?

Good Morning
Ok, I'm back on track! Happy to be home and walked with Neil Diamond this morning. Fun to be back on my own route! I did walk 5 of the 7 days we were gone so felt good about getting it in one way or another. I gained 1.6 lbs on the trip so want to get that off. We ate way too much and usually not the right stuff! But back to my oatmeal and tomato juice this morning and tasted good.
My garden is a jungle! So, that's where I'll be this morning. And my lawn really, really needs to be mowed so will do that this afternoon. More exercise. All to the good.
Sounds like you are keeping up with your plan as you are able. Sure hope you feel better this morning. Absolutely no fun to be that sick.

Day........
All right Lambs, I'm a little lost and confused on my days. Note to self....do think (Haha! I do THINK on a daily basis I hope! Should read "do THIS") on a daily basis! Another new goal.
Friday was day 22 and I ran 3.25 miles.
Saturday was day 23 and I 100% slacked!! (it was fun!)
Sunday I ran 3.25 miles and also walked enough to make up for Saturday. Sunday was day 24.
Monday was day 25 and I had a really excellent walk at lunch with J from work. We walked for an hour and it was 3 miles. Then I got sick. Pretty sad, actually.
Today is day 26 and I sincerely doubt that I will be exercising at all today. I am home sick and I am just feeling really tired and worn. Right now I am just working on hydration. I don't even feel hungry which is good, I think.
Anyway, that's my story. I don't want to end my 30 days in a whimper! Gotta get better!
