Still At It

I got back in the saddle last Tuesday and have been doing ok every morning.  Nothing spectacular but I'm determined to get back in the routine of morning exercise.  A little running and some push ups and sit ups.  So far, so good.

Remember Me?

I'm the long lost old man who use to be posting here nearly every day.  I have wandered away from the faith but have decided to be like the prodigal son and return home.  So, this morning I ran a mile on the TM and did 25 push ups and 25 sit ups.  You would think I had never done anything like that in my life!  But it feels good now to have done it and I'm even looking forward to tomorrow.  Some good news here is that I didn't gain any weight while we were in Hawaii!  I can't hardly believe it but the scale doesn't lie.  Well, sometimes I think it does but not today.

Healed Up But Still Not Running

My injury is healed up but I have been walking every morning and now the excuse is that I'm going to Hawaii for 2 weeks and won't have time to run in the morning before the tour bus leaves!  Always a very good excuse with me!  But I do plan to get back to it after this trip.  And we will do lots of walking while in Hawaii.  Beginning a week from today on Waikkiki Beach!

Injured

I haven't been running or posting since Tuesday because on that afternoon I ruptured the "plantaris tendon" in my left leg.  It runs down through the calf below the knee.  I could hardly walk after it happened Tuesday afternoon and went to the doctor on Wednesday morning.  Nothing to do for it except ibuprofen and ice.  It is much, much better but is still bothering me now on Saturday.  Will take 2-3 weeks to fully heal.  Really made me MAD!  I am walking fine but if I turn a little bit the wrong way, I can still feel it.  And I was doing so well, too!  And I will again.

On the TM

I decided over the weekend to get back in gear on the TM.  I seem to do better and can run farther than I can and do outside.  So yesterday and today I ran a full mile and upped my push ups and sit ups to 35 each.  Goal before leaving for the Hawaii trip on 9/23 is to get to 2 miles on the TM and 50 reps each for the exercises.

Been Doing It

I have been doing it.  Running and walking every morning but tomorrow we are heading to Whitewater so will have to see how it goes there.  I'm bringing my stuff and plan to keep at it.

Keeping the Home Fires Burning!

I'll do my best here while you are on your big adventure in Germany!  Actually, I haven't gotten on the TM yet.  Outside run/walk has gone very well the last two mornings so will keep it up and try to up the mileage as the weeks go by.  I really want to get back to 2 miles running on most days.  Have a ways to go but will keep at it.

Anniversary Hiatus is Over!

I took a break while we were in Chicago although we did walk 3 or 4 miles every day there to get to and from one thing or another.  Today I got back on track with a 1 mile run/walk outside.  I see a year ago I was running on the TM every day because it was so hot and humid.  Might try that and see how it goes.

Another Report!

I went out yesterday morning but only ran about .25 miles.  I was tired!  So I walked and it was really enjoyable.

Today, though, I was successful in my (slow) run.  I did two laps around the lake and I had 2 walk breaks today, both in the second mile.  So that's improvement!  Not sure if I'll walk or run tomorrow morning, but I'll do something!

You inspired me to get of my rear!  I've been for a couple walks (so hot!) and I looped the lake twice this morning in a slow run.  I did have to take 3 short walking breaks.  But, hey, I did something!

Ok, Slackers! Back to it!

This is embarrassing to see how long it's been since I posted anything here!  Truth is I didn't do any running on the farm but I did walk 1 and sometimes 2 miles on many mornings.  Now I am home and this morning I walked a half mile north and ran back and started the push ups and sit ups again.  Only 25 reps each but it's a start.  The running and exercises felt like I had never done them before!  So, I will keep at it here and see how it goes.

Doing Stuff!

I have been keeping up with my couch to 5K efforts even though the app I was using broke on me!  I did get a refund.  One day I was out doing the program and I thought, "This is a really long minute!"  And then I realized: the length of a minute didn't change, the app quit working!  So I have made my own interval workout and am using that.  I miss my coach, Erin, though! 

The interval I'm doing now is 2 min walk / 2 min run. 

The other day I was out really early (maybe 5:30) and the snow on the mountains was pink from the sunrise.  It was beautiful.

Another C25K Outing

Today was day 5 of my training program and it was the same as the last.  So I bet day 6 will either have a longer run or a shorter walk.  It's a really good program and the coach makes me smile.  So it's good.  I went out around 6:30 am so I could beat the heat.  Got up to maybe 90 today.  Didn't want to practice running out in that heat!

Today I really tried to breath in through my nose, not my mouth.  I think that will help me not gulp air.

Couch to 5K

Thanks for posting, you motivated me!

I started over on the couch to 5k program.  I'm doing a bunch of diet modifications to try and beat this LPR.  I really hoped that getting off those meds would resolve it, but I need to do more. It's better but not gone. Which I guess does make sense.  I haven't had coffee of bubbly water for 3 or 4 weeks and, yes, I'm bitter about it!

Today was day 4 of that program.  8 intervals.  2 minutes walking, 1 minute running.  And I suppose we keep that up till it's all running.  I'm glad I'm doing it

That's the pattern I'm getting back into here.  3 days with some running and then the 4th day just walking.  Hoping not to wear myself out as I get back into gear with this.  So, today was a walking day.  Gorgeous morning out there and perfect for it!

Let's Get Back On Track Here

I have decided that I am not done running quite yet.  I have taken a couple months off so am starting all over again but that's ok.  I walked a half mile north and ran back both yesterday and today and plan to do that for a week before upping the mileage a little at a time.  I also started on the push ups and sit ups again, too, and will up those as time goes by.

Yay me!

I already did my training program today!  I went out before I started work (at 7), so it's nice to start my day feeling accomplished!

I think today's program was exactly the same as the first day's session.  3m walk / 1m run, 6x.  Session 3 is 8 minutes longer, so it will be interesting to see what it consists of.

I did something!

And you already know about it, since I told you yesterday.  But I'm making it official with a post!

I started a couch to 5k program yesterday.  Usually, I don't run for 100 years.  Then I run 3 miles.  Then I am broken and don't run for 100 years.  So I decided to not do that!  Yesterday's program was to walk 3 minutes, run 1 minute.  6 rounds of this.  Felt good.  After that, I walked over to the gym.  Lifted some weights and then walked home.  It was a good exercise day.

Not sure what I'll do today, probably go for a walk.  Then do "the program" day 2 tomorrow.

Oh my....

We are not keeping up here!  I am still walking a mile or more every morning but do want to get back to some running. So we'll see what tomorrow brings.  I didn't do a thing (as you know) on my little vacation so have to get back in the swing.

Home and on the TM

Have run 3 mornings in a row now.  Just a mile but something.  Ran at the hotel on Monday and now home the last two days.  Also started the push ups and sit ups again after a month and feels like I have never done them in my life!  Will up my mileage and reps as time goes by.

A little run

I was going to title this 'back in the game' but then I thought - who knows how long this will last!  I did go for a little run just now.  2 miles.  Slow miles, it's been a while.  I was pleased I made it 2 miles, truth be told.  So now we will see what happens.  My nose was a tiny bit runny and my lungs feel a little tight but no sneezes so far.

Bit by dog!

I kid you not!   I didn't run this morning but went for a mile long walk and as I was almost back to our building this man's big black dog lunged at me and took a big chomp on my rump!! The guy immediately pulled him back on his leash but I felt it.  He didn't break the skin so no injury but if I hadn't been wearing heavy blue jeans he would have.  Absolute surprise and scary.

Outside

Ran outside this morning and got hot!   Ran 1 mile and mostly walked back.   Very level here but all on concrete which my calves hate!  But i did what i could.

Gym Times!

You left me a comment the other day that walking is exercise.  And you're right!  I just need an attitude adjustment.

I've been to the gym a couple times this week.  Done some weight lifting and some treadmilling.  I'm putting the incline to 10 so I can really work it!

Planet Fitness

I confess that I have been a bad boy - haven't run for 4 mornings now!  We have done lots of walking and hiking every day but I've been lazy in the morning.  Well, it's been cool and very windy so it's cold out there first thing!  That's my excuse.  Anyway, this morning I drove into Palm Coast and joined Planet Fitness.  Huge place.  Like Chuze in LeMesa.  They have 30 treadmills!  And busy.  All but one were occupied when I arrived.  Lots of people in there doing lots of things.  Every machine you can think of.  So I ran some on a TM and feel better about myself.  It's about an 18 minute drive to get there and a $2 toll on the bridge coming back but better than not doing anything!

Florida Running

We have been here 5 mornings already!  And I have run on 3 of them.  Just 1.5 miles or so but it's something.  Walked on the other two.  Found a nice route from our condo to the boat house for these units which is across the highway, through a very nice residential neighborhood and then a 3/10's of a mile on a hard sandy road to the bay on the other side.  8/10's each way.  Gorgeous morning here!

Short run

Ran 1.5 miles today.  First time in ages.  Been congested ever since, I hate to say.  I need to come to grips with being a walker.  Good thing I like listening to podcasts!

And I saved someone's day today!  I passed a gaggle of old ladies and, not long after we passed, I saw a car key fob on the path.  So I grabbed it it ran it back to the and they were so grateful.  I'm an expert at losing my keys, so I was glad to be able help!

But I'll admit it's getting harder and harder to stay motivated.  I'm hoping nicer weather when we are in SC and FL will help with that.  But I continue to get on the TM most mornings and run some and also do my push ups and sit ups.

Back in the Game!

Paid a visit to European Fitness last night.  Really needed to do a lot of self encouragement to get there, but I did it. It was busy again, well, at least when I arrived.  Thinned out a lot within 30 minutes. 

Let's see.  I walked on the treadmill at an 8% incline for 30 minutes.  And then I did some weight lifting. 

We are having a grey and rainy day here so I plan on going again after work to get some walking in.

A couple updates!

I've been back to the gym twice now.  Both late visits.  Well, late in my world!  Maybe around 6:30 or so.  One night was treadmill walking (super incline!) and weights.  Last night was treadmill.  Both good visits.  I hope I can get into a routine with this again.

It's been very busy, cardio machine wise, on both of these visits!

Update

Yes, I'm still running 4 or 5 mornings a week and doing push ups and sit ups.  Trying to keep at it although it's suddenly hard for me to stay motivated.  Any excuse will do it seems for a day off.  Not today though.  Plan to go to Duluth tomorrow for lunch if the weather permits so might be a day off then.

I'm already sore!

I walked over to the gym today and lifted weights for the first time in 100 years.  I'm already sore, just a couple hours later!

Also trudged The Stairway to Hell, one of my fav cardio machines.

Hope I am not to sore to make my commute to the  office in the morning!

Still at it

Finally back up to 1.5 miles today and 50/50 on the exercises.  So making some progress.  If I can stay well now I will continue to up my mileage week by week and be ready for a 5k in the spring.  I hope anyway.

Gym Day

Gym day but not weights.  I ran on the treadmill - under 2 miles.  And then I walked (at a 6 incline) until I hit 30 minutes.  Very wet here today.  Well, not pouring.  But dripping enough to not have a lake walk be pleasant! I've gotta get back into a routine here because I'm sore!

Yeah!  I did!  I ran before work this morning.  It was only 31 but really that's not too bad once I get moving.  The idea of 31 is worse than the reality of 31.  I did 2 miles again.  Just not ready for 3, I've been out of the game too long.

I went for a run!

Yeah!  Truth!  I can't really believe it my own self!  I ran 2 miles.  Slow.  I can tell I've been very out of the game.  And I am still congested and could feel my lungs being....I don't know.  Congested! 

No sneezing/nose dripping today.  I think I know what the issue has been and I've stopped taking that medicine my doctor gave me and it really does seem to be the culprit.  Back to that drawing board!

A Report from Out West

Boy has it been a long time since I've done anything exercise related.  But, today, I finally got outside and went for a walk.  I walked 3 miles.  Not sure of my pace, but I was not trying to break any land speed records.  I just wanted to be outside for a bit. 

Really nice evening and I'm grateful for my pretty lake that is so close by.  Now that I'm officially on the mend, we are going to be getting some weather!  Which is fine because I can just pop over to the gym.  On Monday (early morning - I think midnight to 5 am or some such) we are going to have "dangerously high" winds.  I'll be staying inside!

But I did it! I got on the TM this morning and ran for a mile.  Just one but I felt good to get that much done.  Chest was tight and I had trouble getting a full breath by the time I quit.  Maybe it will help to break it up.  Also did 25 push ups and 25 sit ups so it's a start.  I am not giving this up!

Happy New Year

I had really hoped to be running this morning to start the new year right but had to settle for another walk.  Still coughing and afraid running would make it worse.  Slept in my recliner for 2 hours during the night so as not to keep the boss awake.  Haven't coughed much today though so I'm hopeful.  Will have to see what tomorrow brings.
