I Did Something!

As you know, I haven't done a thing for more than a week because of the holiday and then this chest cold.  But today I got on the TM and walked for a whole mile without coughing!!  Not much I know but progress nonetheless!  Hope I continue to improve every day so I can back to some running.

I did something!

It is winter here so I drove to the gym and walked in the treadmill.  35 minutes at a high incline.  Then I did some push-ups (not 50, though!!), Planks, and squats.  It felt good.

Back on my 3-1 schedule

I have decided to go back to my 3 days running, 1 day off schedule.  Means I'm running 6 days out of 7 but not 6 days in a row.  Also gives me a day off to always be looking forward to!  So I have run the last 3 days and today I am off.  How did I spend the time you ask?  I spent it paying bills!  Ugh.  Might go back to running every day!

Ok, Let's Get Back To This!

And that's exactly what I did this morning.  Got back on the TM and did 1.5 miles and then 50 push ups and 50 sit ups.  So I am back in gear.  Managed not to gain any weight during the week in Whitewater but didn't lose any either.  Felt good to be doing something again!

Another German Run

What a nice day it turned out to be!  I woke up to darkness and some sky drips, but it stopped sprinkling and I have had a nice mix of clouds and blue sky.

Went over to the park and ran 5k.  Took the path the opposite direction and realized what a favor I had been doing myself before by taking the longer hill as a down!  But I kept at it and got it done.

Still At It

I haven't thought about posting for a few days but I have been running and exercising every morning.  Did 1.75 miles today so getting back up to my goal of 2 per day.  Also steady at 50 push ups and 50 sit ups every morning. 

I guess I have decided to have Mom buy me a new iPod for Christmas for my music and have gone back to using the Garmin watch with its foot pod to track my runs.  It and our treadmill are very, very close in tracking mileage it seems.  So I may not use the watch except for outside runs after a while here.  I like to know how far I have run and that matters more to me than the time so will continue to do my best to keep track.  Don't see any outdoor running in my future though for a long time.  Snowing here again today!

Greetings from your Germany runner!  Yep, I went for a run today!  2 miles.  I could sure tell I haven't been running, two miles was as far as I cared to go.
It was fun and such a beautiful day. I'm glad I was able to get outside.

My Vacation is Over!

I have been off the track for 2 whole weeks and it shows!  But those good times are over for me just as they are beginning for you!

I got back on the TM this morning and only did 1 mile and 25 reps of my exercises but it's a start.  Plan to up it a 1/4 mile a day until I'm back to 2 miles and 50/50 of my exercises. 

I will do my best to keep this blog active while you are gone!

I've been doing some running. Some walking. And, yesterday, I went to the gym! I've been so intermittent with my gym attendance that I can really feel it today. My muscles are pinchy! Not sure what's on tap today. Walk or run. Just depends on how spicy I'm feeling.

2 miles

I've been doing 2 miles, too, lately.  Either crunched for time or just don't have more pep.  But I've been doing well and my last 2 runs have been without the mask.  Very happy about  that!

Update

Been a whole week since I was here!  I'm going to lose my blog license!

Been running on TM every day but Saturday.  So doing ok.  Still at 2 miles but today finally got back to 50 push ups and 50 sit ups, too.  Been working my way back up to that level so plan to stay there now for a while. 

No fitness center anywhere near Sue's apartment in Boston so hope the weather is ok to do a little running outside.  Will be a challenge because, as you know, I tend to slack off while traveling.  So, we'll see.  During the second week every hotel we're in except for one has a fitness center so hope to use some of them at least.  We leave home 2 weeks from today.  Will spend that night at Holiday Inn near airport for early Tuesday flight.  (Well, early for us!)

Home Again

I did run on their TM in Whitewater on 2 of the 3 mornings while there so glad I did that.  So often I use being away from home as an excuse to be lazy but I didn't do it this time.  Sunday would have been a day off for me at home, too.

Back on my own TM this morning and doing my other exercises, too.  Just have to be consistent and doing something nearly every day.

Another Run

Got in 3 miles today, around the lake. Good run, nice pace. And it was a really nice day out. Glad I was wearing a short sleeved shirt under my long sleeved one. I dressed for brrrrrr but, turns out, it was only brrr. Anyway, that's my report!

Better but not 100%

I do think these meds are working, I just need to figure out the timing. Tomorrow I'm going to take the pill around 8 am. I was reading that it has a 'protective life' of 12 hours. My pharmacist told me to take it at bedtime, and I really can tell a difference. But I think there's not much left in me by the time I run the next day. From what I have read, it's totally fine to take it any time of the day. I ran on Wednesday (3 miles) and today (1.5 miles). And I did some walking today. Might try and do my hike again this weekend. The one my car tire decided it had no interest in driving me to!

Still At It

Been on the TM almost every morning for 2 miles plus the push ups and sit ups.  Finally feel like I'm getting back in the groove.  Of course, now we are going to Whitewater for the weekend so that might throw me off.  But their TM is working as far as I know so will try to keep at it.  Have also lost about 4 lbs since coming home from Montana so glad about that.

I've been "running" outside but can't seem to do a full 2 miles out there without some walking.  All in head?  Maybe.  Anyway, today I'm back on the TM and 2 miles got done.  So maybe I will just stay inside for a week or so and see how it goes.

I'm catching up, too!

I'm going to set myself up to get notifications when an original post is made. Then I'll know EVERYTHING! I'm really going to try and get back into the posting habit. At least when I have something to post! Today I did a 3 mile run. Seems like, recently, they've been mostly under 3 miles. I often wait till it's too hot and I'm really struggling to acclimate to wearing a mask. Just makes it harder to breath. That said, the super creepy mask really seems to be helping me a lot. It's not a perfect solution, but I think it is helping to keep the sneezing to a minimum. Sometimes it is halted all together. And there is a nasal spray I have that's really helping with the dripping and blowing. So, baby steps. But progress. Anyway, 3 miles today and it was good. I went earlier than usual (for me!), so it was only 75 or so. We've been having another little hot snap this week but it's not staying as hot as long, so it's a lot easier to handle.

Catching Up

I have been running almost every day (except today!).  Inside for the most part where I was up to 2 miles on the TM with no problem.  Then yesterday I ran outside and couldn't even get through the first mile without having to walk some.  So, what's up with that?  Why is it harder to run outside than inside?  Of course, I have a hill to run up the first 4/10's outside but also have the TM set at a 1% incline so it shouldn't matter.  But it does.  Anyway, I am keeping at it but just needed a day off today.

Another run

Another run! It was good, happy with my pace. And really happy that I didn't wait till the hottest part of the day! I guess that is my big win for today. Heat responsibility. It's actually cooling down a bit now. In fact, I had all my windows and shades open all day. Pretty nice to be able to do that! Heading to SD tomorrow. I know I have a visit to the lake planned, for sure. And pizza eating!

Run

Had a really good run today - before it got too hot!  3 miles at the lake.  Also took a walk to Walgreens.  After it got hot. I was a sweaty mess when I got home!

Hot Run

I ran today and it was too hot. I have to admit it. It was 90 when I went out and I thought "This doesn't seem too hot!" but, about half way through, yeah. Too hot. Why didn't I stop? Well, isn't that the eternal question! I went to my yoga class last night. I love it so much. I wish more people would attend, though. I was the only student. Again!

Doing stuff!

I had a small break while I had company - but only from running. We did some serious hiking, as you saw from the pics. Really fun and I was really sore! Yesterday was a day off for me. I did go for a lot of walks, but no running. Sunday I ran and also went to the gym and lifted weights. And yesterday I was just too sore and tired to contemplate running. So I was kind to myself and took a day of rest. Haven't run today - yet. But I'm toying with the idea! Yoga tonight, for sure.

Yay outside running!

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have access to the treadmill. But I really struggle to do the distance I intend when I'm on the treadmill. And I've been generally sad about not running outside since it was due to all the smoke and related air pollution. By the way, the have arrested the arsonist that started the Perry fire, which is just south of Pyramid Lake. He's been charged with over 40 counts of....different things. But they expect many more charges to come, as the fire is only 40ish% contained. What an ass. Anyway! I ran 3 miles outside at the lake today. It was just on the wrong side of hot. I'm glad I got out there when I did, otherwise I would have missed my window. I have been going to the gym. I will run (2 miles or so) and then lift weights. On the one hand, I feel mad that I'm out of shape. On the other hand, I feel glad that I'm going to the gym and getting my runs in. Going to really try and focus on the positive.

Getting Better at the Gym

Today I ran 2.4ish miles (I forget!) at the gym before I went into walk mode. So that's good. From a stamina perspective, I did a way better job. But, also, from a mental perspective. I was happy that I was able to get that far before I thought "Over it!!" Then I did some weights. There was a lot of interesting activity at the gym today. Two giant semi-trucks, one specifically from Lifetime Fitness (the equipment). And I saw some old dilapidated equipment from the gym sitting out in the parking lot. Must be continuing their face lift/upgrades. It's looking pretty nice! I had a big exercise day on Sunday. First I ran 3 miles. Then I decided to go on a "little" hike, which ended up being like 8 miles!!! Naturally my fitbit battery died on this hike! Do those steps even count in that case??? I kid! Anyway, I took yesterday off because I was seriously broken. Now I'm getting myself ready to go to a yoga class. It's a rest and relaxation class. I went last week and it was exceedingly delightful. I'm looking forward to it tonight. Hope you're getting re-settled into the farm house!

Updates

Well, I am certainly glad to hear about the nasal spray!  Hope it continues to help and work.  Yes, you have been and still are hot, hot, hot out there!  I look at your forecast every morning just to see.  Can't run outside in that for sure.  Are you still going to European Fitness or did you join another gym?  Seems like you were thinking about that.

My ankle is still bothering me a little like if I press on it in a certain place.  But I am walking fine now so got on the TM here this morning and actually ran a whole mile!  Not so far but farther than I have run in 2 weeks so feeling pretty good about that.  Got to start somewhere.

Another No Sneeze Run!

Another run with no sneezing. Maybe this moisturizing nose spray is what I needed. Course, next winter-spring will be the true test, I supposed. Since that's when it started and was at its worst. But I'm really pleased. Also ran yesterday. I had a busy day that included a dental appointment so I ran in the morning because I knew I wouldn't want do so in the afternoon. And I was right! It's also been very hot here in the afternoon/evening, so it's gym running for sure if I can't get it done in the morning.

Another Gym Day

Running on the treadmill is HARD! Today I ran for 1.5ish miles and then walked some. And then I did some weight lifting. But, wow, I can tell I'm off my running game when it comes to that treadmill. Challenging, for sure. I will have to use the treadmill again tomorrow, so maybe I'll have a bit more endurance. I suppose I should slow down the pace so I can do more distance. But, no, I will just torment myself! I may have gotten to the bottom of this sneezing BS. Maybe. It started up again as soon as I ran in Reno. First run back. And I thought.....maybe it is the dryness. And, trust me, I have like a billion nasal sprays here at this point and many of them claim to be moisturizing, but they haven't helped at all. I bought what I thought might be a more moisturizing solution for my neti pot and it actually came with a sample of the company's nasal spray. And, wouldn't you know, my nasal passages felt better than they had in months. After the first use. And I haven't had a post-run sneezing attack since I started using that. I have ordered some from Amazon and sure hope it continues to help. If it does, what a huge relief! I'll let you know. Welcome home! Sure have been thinking of you and your ankle. I hope you continue to be on the upswing.

I went to the gym!

I waited too late to run outside (way too hot!), so I went to the gym.  I ran on the treadmill for maybe 1.3 miles and then walked 2-2.5 miles.  Then I lifted some weights!  Yes!  You read that right!  It's been so long, I suspect I'll be exceedingly sorry tomorrow!

Injury Report

So i have run a few mornings while on the farm but mostly I've been too tired from my painting job every day.  But i ran yesterday and again this morning. Almost back to the house this morning and i twisted my right ankle good on a nice round rock. I am watching every step so this doesn't happen but it did anyway.   Sitting here with ice pack on it now.   Hurts.  So will have to see how it feels tomorrow.

Back in business!

I've been running since I've been back in SD. 3 miles although today I did 3.5. And I've been including a hill in my route, so it's a good run. Too hot today, that's for sure. But I did it and now am just really hydrating. Pace is getting better again, I'm super happy about that.

Inside Running

Huge thunder and rain storms here this morning so I very wisely opted for the TM in the basement.  Had a good 2 mile run there and then push ups and situps.  1.7 inches in the rain gauge when I finally got outside to check it.

Grandma's Marathon Weekend Update

We did great!  Mary Ellen and I ran the 5K on Friday evening and survived.  Julie and Angie ran the half marathon on Saturday and did more than survive...they rocked it!  Excellent weekend all the way around.

Don't know what got into me this morning but I decided to run from the house and see how it went.  Ran up the hill and only walked about 50 feet in the middle of the 2 mile run. That's progress for an old man!  Also did 50 push ups and 50 sit ups when I got back to the house.  Feeling good about all of it!

Still At It

I'm running outside these days but only managing about a mile and a half.  Having a real mental block about running up the driveway and up the hill to Swagers.  So I have been walking that far and then running to Peer's driveway and home again.  Not sure what I will do when the Fitnatics 5K comes around.  Will just do my best I guess.

No Sneeze / Sneeze!

Weird times over here! Sunday I did a 6 mile run. Went well (slow!). No sneezing or nose blowing. Today I did a 2.78 mile run (too hot!) and now I've been sneezing and blowing ever since. And I have a little headache. Let's just say grrrrr! It's a lot dryer today than it has been. Also, I haven't been consistently using that nasal steroid spray. I did start again, though. So maybe that will help. Who knows, it is a mystery!

I ran outside this morning.  Nice day.  60, no wind, cloudy.  Went well but only did 1.6 miles.  Have a psych hurdle to get over about running up the hill to Swager's before I start running on more level ground.  Walked the hill and ran the rest of the way.  I'll get over it, though, don't worry!

A run with no sneezes!

I can't believe it, but it's true! I decided to go for it and run just to see what would happen. And, man, was it HARD. I can tell I haven't been running. But, after my run, I walked once around the lake. No sneezes. I did have some nose blowing. But I've been in good shape the rest of the night. I've got a nasal spray I've been using (it's just an OTC steroid spray with NO antihistamines) and I quit taking a medicine. So maybe it's one of those things. Maybe it just needs a couple runs to start again. Maybe it knows I made an appointment with an ENT so it is scared. Many options! There's no way I can run that half, though, even if I don't sneeze anymore. A month away and I could hardly run 3 miles today. Yikes!

Outside Running

I've taken a few days off, too, while I was in Whitewater.  So back at it today and ran outside this morning.  Short run, only 1.6 miles but it's a start!  Felt good doing it so plan to add distance tomorrow and see how that goes.  Also back to pushups and situps.

Back to Running and Sneezing

I'm back! I decided that I wasn't going to even think about running while Mom was here. I thought maybe a break would help with the sneezing. But no! I ran 3 miles yesterday and promptly started sneezing when I was done. Lasted all night and my nose is very runny and irritated this morning. I am going to get in touch with my primary and see what specialist she recommends next. Angie and I have been busy Dr. Interneting me and we are in agreement about non-allergic rhinitis / exercise induced rhinitis.

3 miles and tired

I can tell I haven't been running. I did 3 miles today and that was for sure my max. I didn't have any more spice in me. But I did that and I'm glad about it. I also walked 2 miles after. No sneezing but I did have some nose blowing. Now, after, the inside of my nose feels itchy. So I hope that doesn't mean that ramping up the running again will ramp up the sneezing again. We'll see, though.

Kind of stuck on 2 miles though and would like to get beyond that.  More of a mental game than anything.  I can do more but just psych myself out and quit.  Also still doing pushups and situps.

Some Success!

Monday and Tuesday were not happy running days for me. I'd taken about a week off, and I could feel it. Also, Monday, I was supposed to do hills (3-4 miles or 4 - 5, I can't remember). So I went to the gym Monday and only did 2 miles of hills. Just so much work! I tried again yesterday and only got 1.19 or some such! And then I thought....What the! Anyway, today was a 4 mile run and I went outside and did it at the lake and I was super successful. So that's happy. Also, I haven't sneezed once! I have had a little nose blowing, but not much at all. I've cut out safflower oil and sunflower seed oil, those are my only changes. I'll see my allergy doc soon and see what she thinks. Well, I know what she thinks - she thinks that doesn't account for all my symptoms! But maybe she'll have some other ideas to go along with that. I know she has some other type of allergy med to suggest, so we shall see. Otherwise, we are going to talk about what different kind of doctor I might need to see next.

Today was my first run in a week, I think. Training schedule has me doing 6 miles, but I only did 3. Was ok, got a side stitch about 1 mile in. So I just did what I could. And then sneezed after. Didn't last as long as usual though.

7 Miles!

I know I did it even if my GPS doesn't! Had some technical difficulties again today, which I assume is really just Sprint trying to encourage me to get a new phone. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to pull this off, just because I was feeling pretty low for a few days. And, when I started, my guts felt pretty sore and tender! So I decided I would just go as far as I could and be happy with that. But I'm glad I was able to get this training run done because I don't want to get too behind on my scheduled plan. Again today I did my 2 miles on the TM and it was very difficult!  Mom noticed last night that the incline is set to 1.5%!  I ran that way yesterday and didn't notice it.  Left it there this morning but it really seemed like work.  Not sure if I'll leave it there or not.  I should but will have to see what tomorrow brings.

3 Miles

Another down! Sure didn't feel like it today, but I did it. Tomorrow is supposed to be my day off and then 3 miles on Friday. But I'm going to play it by ear. If I feel like running tomorrow, I will. Then I will take Friday off, which will be good since it is supposed to rain.

Wow!  While I was sluffing off through a travel week you have really done good work!  Congratulations!  Glad to hear there is less and less sneezing going on, too.

I got back on the TM here this morning and did a strong 2 miles.  Felt like work though after a week of mostly sitting in the car.  I think there is no way I'll be doing that half with you girls.  Really sorry about it but it's just not going to happen.  Think my long distance days are over sad to say.  I don't see any prospect of getting outside to run for a couple of weeks at least.  Too much snow and ice here still.  And I can hardly force myself to get to 2 miles on the TM.  So I will have to be content to be the designated driver.

5 Mile Training Run

A good run today, 5 miles. Just ran around the lake. Thankfully it's big enough that I don't get dizzy! Pretty quiet out there today, but I went earlier than I usually do. I'm supposed to o a 7 mile run on Saturday, but we have rain warnings that have turned into a flood watch! So I'll just have to wait and see what Saturday brings me. I don't really want to do it on a treadmill, although maybe I could say I'm also working on my mental toughness training.

4 Mile Fartlek

Another fartlek day! 4 miles, did it similar to last time where I ran 1 mile, did the intervals for 2 miles, ran 1 mile. I am really impressed with the RunKeeper app that I've been using. I was able to define a custom workout so I had her tell me "Run steady for 1 mile", "Run fast for .1 mile", "Run slow for .3 mile" - really worked awesome. This was harder to do outside because I wasn't quite as consistent. Pretty consistent, though. I could see in the app what I did for each interval. More tomorrow!

6 miles done!

I did it! Today was my 6 mile training run and I did it and it went really well. Had a small technical difficulty to start. My GPS told me I was at .5 miles way before that was possible. Well "way" = like 1/10 of a mile. But still. So I ended that run and started new. But, ultimately, I got my 6 miles in. And! I got a thumbs up from a guy who said, "You're awesome! Great job!" That happened at mile 5 and was perfect timing for a bit of inspiration. Saw some baby geese and saw a woman walking with a parrot on her shoulder. Beautiful day here today. Had to go over to the post office earlier and spied some daffodils in flower. Oh, sneezing report! None today. I did have a bit of dripping but nothing major and no sneezing. I'm seriously blaming the allergy test. Now it will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

I ran 3 miles today and will do my 6 mile run tomorrow rather than Saturday. Didn't really feel like running today. First, that allergy pill from yesterday made me tired. Second, ga, I'm just super tired of what is happening to me after I run. But, anyway, I did it.

Today was day 2 of my training plan.  4 mile run.  Absolutely beautiful day so I ran at the lake.  Went great. Then I walked once around.  Only once because I started sneezing about .3 miles into my walk.  I checked the pollen report for today and it was low.  So I'm going to assume something in the test yesterday caused this.  It wasn't as bad as it has been at times, so there is that. I'm supposed to call them when it happens, so I guess I'll ring them tomorrow.

Back to the gym

Early Day 1

I know we visited on the phone, but I'll post for posterity. Tomorrow was to be my official training start but I got to thinking that I might not be feeling too spicy after getting poked at the allergy clinic. So I started today and did the fartlek (ha!) training. 4 miles. So I did a 5 minute warmup at 3.5 / 7%. Then I ran for 2 miles at 6.0 / 1%. then I did 3 min / 30 sec switches between 5.8 and 6.8 (@ 1% incline). Then I ran 1 mile at 6.0 / 1% and finished with 5 minutes walking at 3.5 / 7%. I also lifted some weights. And, let me tell you, I am tired!!!

My Shoe Report

I decided I needed new shoes too so went to a place in gulf shores on Friday.   Woman seemed very knowledgeable and I bought a pair of Brooks shoes.  Said I could try them out on a treadmill and bring them back if I wanted, so I went to that gym yesterday and brought them back to the store later that morning, I think I need new orthotics so might go see podiatrist when I get home and wait for shoes until after that.

Gym Run

Well, the weather folk were wrong! Pretty dreary day here and I just peeped some snow coming down! I ran at the gym today because I just wasn't interested in the cold today. Good run, I continue to like my shoes. No sneezing! Again! Pretty great. I considered lifting weights after I ran but, once I was done, I was done. And I'm ok with that. I need to get back to weights, and I will. But today was not the day. By the way, they are doing a lot of remodeling at the gym.

Shoe Report

Had an outside run today and I'm really happy with my shoes. Wore thinner socks. I have to say, these shoes must have the shortest laces ever! I'll have to get some different/longer ones. Ran 3, walked 2. Zero sneezes! But dang was I cold when I was done walking. It was probably 7 when I got home and it really cooled off. Supposed to be another nice day tomorrow. Not your style of nice, but nice all the same!

New Shoes!

The time for new shoes arrived. I got a pair of Alta shoes, same brand as Mom's awesome walking shoes. These are running specific ones, though. I wore them at the gym today and I think I'm really going to like them. That said, the socks I wore seemed too fat so I'll try a thinner pair tomorrow. I was sure overdressed for the gym. It wasn't too hot, it was that I was wearing my outside running longjohns (not sure what to call them, it's a thing pair of leggings and a top but they're specifically to be worn under other clothing to keep you warm). Anyway - HOT. I actually considered pausing my run and going to the locker room to take them off! Live and learn!

Another Run

Sure felt colder out there today, even though it was actually warmer! 50 degrees with no sun due to cloud cover sure seems colder tan 38 degrees with sun in a blue sky. But I did run, 3 miles. Walked 1. Just around the lake. No sneezing today, so that's good news. I also did some squats and pushups and planks when I got home. Monday is my "official" half marathon training start day.

Another report

I was worn out today. I sure could tell I've taken time off. I am sore and tired. But winter is coming again at the end of the week and so I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful afternoon. I ran 3 miles, walked 2. I felt slow and it felt hard but my time was actually better than yesterdays. No sneezing again today UNTIL! Yep. Mile 2 of my walk, I sneezed 3 or 4 times. Some nose blowing, too. Not insane like it has been and only lasted a couple of hours. Well, maybe 3 hours. So better but still happening. Tomorrow and Wednesday are going to be very nice days, too. Then, Thursday, it's winter!

Finally!

I had to take about 100 days off.  Seems like, anyway. I've just been feeling so low.  But today I was able to get out to the lake for a run.  It was 38 degrees and very nice out.  I believe they call this Stockholm Syndrome.  I was able to run 3 miles AND walk 2 miles and I sneezed exactly zero times!!!  It's been 2 hours and still not a single sneeze. 

Really lookimg forward to the allergy clinic visit on Wednesday!

Gym Again!

Only 38 here this morning!!  I wouldn't believe unless I'd seen it for myself.  So, off to the gym again.  Glad I found it.  Warm in there again today but I did a full 2 miles.  Hope I'm ready for that 5K on Saturday morning.  And I hope it's not this cold!

Whimp Here

Temp read 46 but extremely windy so wind chill is -10 I'm sure!  Anyway too cold to run outside so went to the gym and had a good run on TM.  No waiting today and not nearly as warm in there as it was the other day.  Did pushups and sit ups when I got back to condo.  Had the heater on in the car driving over there!

Nice Morning Run

Very nice here this morning.  64 and slight breeze. Perfect!  Had a pretty good run.  Running on a paved trail across the highway from us. Vey nice and away from traffic and noise.  And just a few walkers and a couple off bikes each day.

catching up to do!

 My goodness you have been busy!   Congrats on the 6 mile run!  Great! Also glad to hear you're getting some relief from the sneezes.

I have been running outside since we got to Orange Beach but signed up at a gym yesterday.   6 miles from condo but closest one to me here. Cold and windy in the mornings and supposed to stay that way now for several days.  Only 38 this morning! Thought it would be warmer here. Anyway going to try it out pretty soon so will report later.

6 miles!

I'm excited to report that I did my first 6 mile run since leaving San Diego!  I didnt commit to 6.  At about 2.5, I decided to do 4 rather than 3 and I just kept making that decision till I did 6.  Super pleased!

It's been a challenge - good and bad.  I'm happy about my gym running.  Really good pace, I've been at 1% incline the entire run.  But!  I haven't been able to make myself do more than 3 miles per session.  I'm still struggling with this ridiculous post running sneezing (although it's so much better), and I still can't shake the sinus infection!  Which I presume is the cause of the post run sneezes.  And it just, generally, seems harder to run here. 

So, for these reasons, I'm just so glad I ran 6 miles!  And that it was nice enough to be outside.

Gym running continues

Still running at the gym. Today was pretty nice out, but I did the gym anyway. 3.14 miles today and I've been running at a 1% incline.

It's been so long since I've lifted weights, maybe time to get back into that gear.

Outside Running!

I was so worn out today, but this was my opportunity to run outside, so I grabbed it! It is fixing to snow tomorrow and again Thursday and Friday. And it will be cold! So I just womaned up and did it. And I'm so glad I did. Very nice out - well, a little brisk. But good to be out there. And many people agreed with me! I did 3 miles.

New Drugs = Less Sneezing

I went to the drugstore today and got a behind the counter sinus medicine that also has an antihistamine in it. Result? Way less sneezing. After I ran, I was able to walk for 20 minutes or so. I did have a couple of sneezes and needed to blow my nose, but nothing like it has been. So that's good! And the above paragraph already gave you a preview of my report! I went to the gym and ran. 3 miles. We are going to continue to have winter here for the next week or two, so I imagine I'll be running at the gym a lot in the coming weeks. Still thinking of a different gym. Probably 24 hour Fitness if I do change, which is right over by Target and Home Depot. That's it!

Sneezemania!

I was back at the gym yesterday and today and, as I'd not usual, started a sneezing fit when I was done running.  Today I timed it.  6 minutes after I slwas done running (and was just walking on the treadmill) I started up.  Still not done 4.5 hours later, although it is letting up now.

I have an appointment 3/21 at an allergy clinic, so I'm looking forward to that.  Maybe I won't have any allergies at all but, if that's the case, it's still good cause I can just move on!

Reno Gym Run

Can't believe I got myself together to go to the gym today, but I did. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill and I walked a bit more, just to get to 10k. Too cold to walk outside today so I knew this was my opportunity if I was going to get it done. Anticipate a few more gym days in my future, actually. Then, hopefully, I'll be able to get back outside again. We'll see - winter is here!

Back on the TM at home

I have been running a little every morning on the TM here since coming home.  Don't seem to have much enthusiasm for it this week though and not sure why.  Miss my people watching at Chuze Fitness maybe!  Anyway, keeping at it.

More runs - and sneezing!

I ran yesterday and then had a crazy sneezing and nose blowing attack. Lasted until I went to bed. Woke up doing better this morning and continuing to get better throughout the day. I ran this afternoon and it didn't trigger another attack. Interestingly, I ate something with dairy in it at lunch yesterday. Today I read that exercise induced allergies don't have to have an underlying allergy, but they often do. So I'm going to go hard off the dairy again and see if I stop having these attacks. Of course, it could be an allergy to something in the air, but it has happened in Reno, Wisconsin (all inside running), and La Mesa. So kinda seems more likely that I'm doing something that is bothering me and then exercise is causing a full blown allergic reaction. We shall see, though! Today I started my gym investigations again. I visited one gym that is so so nice. It's big, it has lots of equipment, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, classes. But it's $75 / month! If I lived really close to it, I might figure out some way to justify it but 75 is just a real hard stop for me! I drove by another gym, too far away. Have one more to check out. Not sure what I'm going to do!

Back at it in Reno

Had about zero steps yesterday, due to my drive.  But today I ran 3 miles (super happy with my pace) and now I'm gonna go for a small walk.  Nice out, 50 degrees (above!!) at 7 pm.

Running

I've been mostly running, sometimes doing squats and pushups. Should do those more! Went out to the lake today and had a really good run out there. Very cool today so it was good weather for running. Busy, too! And my phone did change time again when I was there. So weird!

Catch Up

I have been so negligent here!  I went to the Kroc Center 3 times but it is so warm on the upstairs level where they have all their TMs and other machines.  So now I have been twice to Chuze Fitness and it is much more comfortable and many, many more machines.  More people, too, of course, but I haven't had a problem getting on a TM.  Yesterday I did 1.5 miles and today a full 2 miles without walking or stopping.  First full 2 miles I've run since we left home and I felt good about it.  So I will continue to go there.  The people watching is so much better at Chuze, too!

Updates!

First update is that I have company! I'm really glad you have arrived. As you know, cause I told you, I've been running. Ran out at the lake and, yesterday, I ran locally. Today and two days ago I did squats and pushups and planks. And walked. And I'm going for a walk today. That's my update!

Good for You!

Glad to see you are "back at it."  I am, too, sort of.  Have had good runs the last two mornings but this morning we both slept late!  Finishing that puzzle yesterday must have taken it's toll on us!  Now time to be getting ready for church.  Tomorrow, of course, will be a travel day for us.  Leaving the house at 8 am but I will hopefully get back to it in California on Tuesday!  See you very soon!

Two updates!

I ran yesterday and today. Yesterday was 3 miles and today I did 2. I just wasn't feeling a third so I didn't force it. I came home and did some squats and such. Tomorrow will be a day of rest - and driving! And I figure I have earned a day of rest because I've really been back at it hard since I have been feeling better. See you soon!

I ran!

I'm excited to report that I've been for two runs now!  Yesterday I can two miles.  Thought I was gonna do 3, but I just lost all my spice around 1 and 3/4.  Today I did run three.  Slowed down that last half mile. 

Did some squats when infot back and, boy, can I sure tell it's been awhile.  Very challenging.

I'm really glad to be functional again!

Didn't last long!

I did fine on Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday morning (yesterday) I woke up with the crud.  Got on the TM but had to quit at a half mile because I was coughing already.  Today I walked 15 minutes and felt exhausted by that.  Hope this doesn't last too long.

New Year, New Start

At least I hope so.  I did a full 2 miles on the TM this morning and 35 push ups and 35 sit ups.  Determined to do that every day this week and start to increase things next week.  Tired of being a slug!!  Have to be ready for that run on Coronado in 3 weeks.
