Hot run / 3 miles

Hot and humid again today. Better than yesterday, though, I think. I made myself get up early today so I could run. I'm a little worn because I want to bed at 2 and got up at 7. But I'm glad I did it because it was already getting too hot when I left. 

Got sidetracked on my way out by a neighbor who has apparently been watching me run for years so he wanted to talk shop. He was just returning from his run.  Said he ran his first marathon in Hawaii in 1974!

Did 13 push-ups. Just didn't have more in me. 

I also had a couple walks today. Walked to piano lessons and then took probably a 3 mile mosey just to get out of the house. Well, actually to get iced coffee but the shop was closed today!  But I waked to 30th, then to El Cajon. Then walked 30th to Adams and then home. 

I'm tired. And hot!  Listening to a great audiobook called Elantris. Love it. 

Around the Block

Only 62 out there this morning.  Humididty is still at 90% or so but it was wonderful.  Gorgeous morning.  This is supposed to be our last hot day for a while they say.  About 90 later today then storms tonight and only into the 70's the next several days.  Anyway, I ran around the 4 mile block and it was a beautiful morning.  They have the new paving on 140th Avenue and it's like the King's Highway.  Very nice.  Pace wasd 10.42 so not the best but ok.  I guess I need to do what you do and practice on some hills.  Gardening and mowing on my list for today.

Better Morning

Only 68 this morning but still 89% humidity but it wasn't as bad as yesterday for sure.  I did the full 3 miles in 29.45!  So, obviiously, it wasn't as bad as yesterday.  Did all my exercises, too.

Back in Business! / 3 miles

I finally ran today!  It's 88 here now at 11:30 so I'm glad I did it early or it wouldn't have gotten done.  I imagine it will get a little warmer and stay that way for the rest of the day.

I did some free weights, crunches, and squats, too.

So that's that!

Sauna Running

74 degrees and 92% humidity at 6:45 am so 2 miles was enough again today.  Really felt like I was running in a sauna.  Did all the exercises when I got home. Feeling very tired today though.  Slept all right I thought but maybe not.

Better Today

66 when I left the house so much cooler than the last two days.  89% humidity though so that's still up there.  Into the 90's again today.  I ran the full 3 miles today and it went well.  30.02 so pretty good for the old man!  Plus all the situps and pushups.  And, yes, I agree that we are doing them right!

2 Miles Was Enough

It was 76 degrees and 83% humidity when I left the house at 6:45 am.  I planned to do the full 3 miles but it felt like I was running in a sauna.  So I turned around at a mile and made it just 2 today.  I was soaked in sweat by the time I got back to the house.  Ick.  Then I did all my pushups and situps.

Crazy day! / 3 miles

It's so nuts - it's getting hotter as the day progresses!  I just turned on the AC at 3:30!  I guess it's only 84 so it must be humid or something.

But I did run today.  3 miles.  And then I did pushups (I don't touch my nose to the ground either!) and squats and abs.  So all around!

I am making a salad with lamb on top tonight.  It will be healthy.  But will it also be delicious?  I'll report back!

Wimped Out Here

Why you ask?  Well, because it was already 80 degrees when I was ready to go and very humid.  Going to hit 98 today they say.  I know, I know, there's always the TM.  But....well....I just didn't do it.  Do not follow in your father's footsteps!

Catching Up! / 3 miles + Hills

Well, I didn't post yesterday!  And here I am just about to go to be (yes, yes, at 9!  Hey, I'm old!) and realized I didn't post yet today!  Geesh!

Yesterday I ran Texas.  I only did it twice though.  Why?  Because I had to pee soooo much.  I seriously considered finding a place by the road but there are too many cars and I know homeless people live on that hill so I thought better of it and just went home.  Well, it's not like it's got a homeless camp.  There just seems to be one living kit on the hill.  But still, I realized it's not my best choice! 

And today I ran 3 miles.  And it was great.  Probably because I've given up (for now) on We're Alive and am listening to a new book.  And I love it. 

Did pushups today.  But only 12 + 5.  I just wasn't really into it today.

Another Gorgeous Morning

68 when I left the house but that wasn't until 8:15.  Slept in a little this morning.  Nice but very windy here today so when I turned around and headed south that wind hit me like a wall.  Surprised me.  Meant the run back was 30 seconds slower than it's been all week.  Oh well.  Felt good to be out there.

Back in Business / 3 miles

Good run this afternoon.  3 miles.  Kinda warm - 83 today!  Beautiful day, that's for sure.

I did 24 pushups again!  2 sets of 12.  Oh, I was surprised, but my abs really have been sore.  I forgot how much pushups impact the entire body.  But last night they were very sore.  Must have been the pushups I did on Tuesday.

Gorgeous Morning

We have just been having the most gorgeous mornings lately.  We do need rain, however.  Dry as can be here.  But otherwise it's been beautiful.  Today was another one.  I ran teh 3 miles in perfect conditions.  55 when I left the house, sun just coming up, no wind.  Just beautiful.

Warm Morning

72 at 7:00 am here and humid.  Going into the 90's today.  But I went out and ran the 3 miles in under 30 minutes again.  29.35 this morning.  I was soaking wet from sweat though by the time I was done.  Might take tomorrow off.

3 miles

Did my 3 miles today.  Absolutely beautiful day but a little hot for running!  Good thing I have to take a couple days off.  Just busy!

Also, proud moment.  I did 24 pushups today!  Not all at once.  I did 12, took a break for squats (some break, huh?!), then did 12 more.  

Another Good Run

Again, wow.  I wasn't even really aware how well I was doing.  But I did the 3 miles in 29.47 so my pace was under 10.0 again.  That's the first time I have been under 30 minutes since almost a year ago.  Feeling good.  64 when I left the house and didn't feel as humid as yesterday.  Going past 90 later today.  Also did the 75 pushups and 75 situps but they really felt like work today.  Could hardly do the last few of each.

Texas x3!

Today is the first day in quite some time that I've done this hill 3 times.  When I was half way done with my second ascent, I thought, "Why not just do 2 and save the 3 for Wednesday?"  And then I realized.  Today I have time.  Wednesday?  Who knows!  So I did the 3.  Very challenging.  But I did it.

I also did 12 pushups and pretended to do crunches.  Only pretended.

I did really well with my eating again this weekend.  I think that the eating first thing in the am is really a game changer.  That and I'm really trying to pay attention and not just eat out of habit.

A Slow 4 Miles Today

I ran around the 4 mile block here this morning but it wasn't record time for sure.  About average.  64 when I left the house and 69 when I got back.  74% humidity acvcording to the Weather Channel but feels like 90% to me.  Very humid out there.  Going to be a hot week here with temps in the 90's the next couple of days.  I will run earlier the rest of the week so shouldn't be too bad.

3 miles

Soooo slow!  But it was good and fun to be out. Really beautiful day!  Lifted some weights and still need to do abs. Bit I'm cooling off a bit. 

I brought my exercise ball home from work and used it to do squats yesterday. I put it between my back and the wall and it helps with form. And I'm feeling it today!

Did it! / 3 miles

Another afternoon run.  Nowhere near as awesome (or fast!) as yours, but it's done.  Also did some abs and pushups.  Still on 12 pushups.

Best Run Since Forever!

Wow!  I ran those 3 miles this morning and my pace was 9.55!!!!  Yes, that's right.  Under 10.0!!  I cannot remember running under 10 since forever.  And I wasn't really aware that I was running faster than I have been but, obviously, I was.  Both the iPod and the Garmin agreed.  My goal all summer has been to get to at least one run where I was at 10 or under and here it is!!

I am feeling good, heel and ankle are just fine and haven't bothered me for weeks now.  My weight is down 6 pounds from my vacation high.  All to the good!  And I did all 75 pushups and situps this morning, too. On a roll.....

Hills! / 2x

Today I did Texas two times.  Very challenging.  Even a week off from that is too much!  Also did weights and situps.

So my weight is going well.  I think I mentioned that I'm eating the moment I get up.  A piece of ww bread with PB or sunflower butter.  And it's really changing the dynamic of my food day.  Crazy how such a little change is having such a big impact.  But it is.  For the past few years my non-winter and non-stress normal has been 135.  Although I really really struggled with that this winter.  Anyway, the past couple weeks I've been at 127 or 128.  It's possible my scale is broken!  But, honestly, that's the only real change I've made.  It's summer to I'm eating healthier and lighter (as one tends to do in the summer).  But I'm giving a lot of credit to this eating first thing business!

I'm actually kinda concerned that my scale is broken because I don't feel like I'm a lot different from 135!  So that might be the case.  Who knows!  All I know is that my pants fit and as long as that's the case, I'm content.

Good Run

I had a good run here this morning.  55, sunny, no wind.  Very nice.  We have just been having the perfect weather the last couple of weeks.  I wish it could last!

I did cut back to 50 pushups and situps this morning though.  My muscles are sore there!  Have to work back up more gradually I guess.

(non)Fun Run! / 3 miles

Not fun today.  It was just too hot!  The high was only 76 so I'm surprised that I thought it was too hot, but there you have it!  I was hot, it wasn't fun, and my pace was really slow.

On the plus side?  Tomorrow has to be better!

I did pushups and lunges when I got back.

I think I'll weigh myself tomorrow.  First time post-Festival-of-Meat (aka: Austin).

I Forget!

I forgot to report in this morning!  Must be getting old or something.  I did get up and run the fitnatics 3 miles.   Front part of my legs are a little sore from yesterday's long run but I did it.  Then I came home and did 75 pushups (very hard work!) and 75 situps (also hard work).  Why are we torturing ourselves like this again?

Back in business! / 3 miles

To keep my vacation fantastic, I did not weigh myself!  And I probably won't till Friday!  I can tell I was eating a lot, though, because I'm a lot hungrier than I was before I left.

But back on track today and I did run this afternoon.  3 miles.  Listened to that pace music again.  No idea why!  But it went better and my time was a lot better than the last outing with this music!

Did 12 pushups.  But I did not do abs.  Just not feeling it.  Tomorrow!

Gandy Dancer Fun

I LOVE that trail!!  And this morning it was my private domain.  Never saw another person anywhere near it.  64 degrees, sunny, slight breeze, absolutely perfect.  6.02 miles with no stopping and no walking.  Pace was 10.50 overall.  Am I pleased with myself?  You bet cha!

Back on the Road

My left hand is still itching this morning and I'm wondering how long this will go on.  But I slept fine and got up and did my 3 miles (pace 10.10!) and the pushups and situps.

I'll be off tomrrow (going to Duluth for 10th Street Reunion starting at 11:00 am) and Sunday.  On Monday I am planning to run 6 miles on the Gandy Dancer.

3 miles

Well, another night of poor sleep.  You know how they say old people need less sleep?  Maybe I'm at that threshold.  Because I'm not all tired.  Maybe I just need less sleep in the summer.

Ran 3 miles.  10 pushups again!  I'm on my way!

Day Off

I hadn't planned to skip today but I got stung by "something" between my first and second fingers on my left hand yesterday and it hurt like heck!  Not your typical bee or hornet sting.  I mean, this really hurt.  And it hurt all night and itches like mad this morning.  So I didn't sleep well at all.  Mom said I woke her up several times moaning and I know I was up and down several times.  The swelling and redness are down this morning but it's itching like crazy.  Putting cortisone cream on it.  So I was in no mood to get up at 6!

Yay me! / 1 hill.....10 pushups!

Yes!  I did 10 "real" pushups today!  And I think my form was good.  I could really really feel it in my abs.  So I'll keep it up.  Thanks for the advice!

Just did 1 run up Texas today.  Dang, I need to do that more often.  Use it or lose it - for hills and pushups!

You know, I'm wondering if I am going to bed too hungry.  I've been doing well on my eating.  Really well.  Maybe too well!  So I might work on that and make sure I don't go to bed hungry.  But my weight is doing great and I am seeing results.

Wednesday Morning

Another good run this morning.  I've been doing very well and feeling strong the last few times I've been out there.  Don't even think about the left heel and achilles tendon anymore.  Did the Fitnatics 3 miles again today.  Pace was 10.14.  Feeling good.  58 degrees, cloudy, slight breeze.

Busy day today work and personal life!  But I did run 3 miles this afternoon. It was a good run. Bit humid!

Cool Morning

Only 52 out there this morning at running time and I almost came back in for a long sleeve shirt.  Of course, once I got going I warmed up and was fine.  Cloudy and no breeze so that was nice.  Good run.  Feeling stronger the last few runs.

The best news?  I have lost my vacation pounds!!!!  All 6 of them!!!  I am very pleased as you can tell.

AM Run / 3 Miles

This morning I thought that I might also run some hills this afternoon but, turns out, I'm worn!  But I did run this morning.  To regular music not pace music!  And it was quite evident in my time.

Beautiful here today - 70 or so.

Also did some pushups.  I need to work harder on that.  I'm not getting far (read:anywhere!) with my plan to get to a high number and transition from the knees.  I used to be so good at them!

ETA: I had a monarch butterfly racing with me for a bit today.  Up a hill, so it was helping and encouraging me!

On the Road Again

This morning I ran around the 4 mile block and the run itself went fine.  However, they have stripped the blacktop off of 140th Avenue in preparation for resurfacing it so that stretch was hard to run on.  Very gravelly and washboardy.  Hey, I can make up words!  Anyway, I won't run there again until it's been resurfaced.  170th Street which is gravel is a much better surface but, of course, that's always been gravel and well maintained.  140th is just a mess right now.  Nice morning.  Cloudy, 58, slight breeze.  We had 2/10's of an inch of rain early this morning.

Weird Run! / 3 miles

Why weird?  Well, I have this pace music I downloaded some time ago.  180 beats per minute.  And I used that today because I figured it would help speed me up.  I usually don't use it because it's all electronica.  But anything in the effort for a better time!  Anyway, my time was 2 or 3 minutes more than it has been!  Go figure!

But it was a good run.  Beautiful day.  And then I did weights and situps. 

Good Intentions

I had planned to run around the 4 mile block here this morning and was all pscyed up to do it until the phone rang at 5:30 am telling me about a death in the congregation.  (Steve Tolzman - did you go to school with any of their kids?)  So I hurried out of here and 10 miles south of Dresser to be with them a while.  He's had cancer and it was not a surprise.  Just too tired now to run so will get busy with some garden stuff instead.

Back to it! / 3 miles

Back to running today!  Got busy this am and actually considered waiting for the afternoon, but decided I'd just do it.  And I'm so glad I did.  3 miles, OK pace.  Actually was a little cool out.  I listened to music not my story.

Also did some abs and pushups.

Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

58 degrees, full sun, no wind, everything lush and green along the route, good run, no walking, 3 miles! Perfect. This is the day I want to bottle up and save to use again and again.
