Friday Morning

I'm running late here this morning. Got up at my normal time but got way laid by little boys. Finally got on the TM and did a full 5K this morning. Love that Air Supply music! Kept me going. Also did the push ups and sit ups. Got some weight to lose though and don't know when I'll finally quit eating! Have a good day!

Great!

I had a really great run this morning! Partially, I was just happy to be outside with my awesome sunglasses! But there is also something really enjoyable about running just for the joy of running. This was my first day without focusing on the goal, so my run was strictly for fun. And I did have fun!

I did six miles today and then I did five hills at lunch. Good workouts! Getting back to the gym tomorrow. And I have tomorrow off!

Wednesday Morning

I slept in by an hour this morning because I'm taking the day off so I can make a trip to the airport. (Boo Hoo...sorry to see you go!) So I got on the TM an hour later than usual but did 2.8 miles and then the sit ups and push ups. Got my nike+ calibrated this morning so we'll see how it goes now until Feb. 11th when I'm running an official 5K. Will recalibrate it then. I like my new sweat band, too. Really does keep the sweat out of my eyes.

Tuesday Morning

Good morning. I did the TM this morning and it didn't seem "rocky" at all so I don't know Poppa was feeling yesterday. Anyway, worked fine for me this morning. Used the nike+ for the first time and don't have it calibrated correctly. It said I ran 3.25 miles but the TM said 2.75 which is what it always says for me for 30 minutes at 5.5 mph. So, we'll be discussing this today! Also did the push ups and sit ups and took Billy Joel with me today.

Yep, that's it! Just a bit over 3 miles to go. I cannot even believe it! I had a good run today and was committed to doing 6 miles (which I did) so tomorrow would be easy for me.

Monday Morning

Another week begins and I got back on track this morning. Have taken 3 days off over Christmas and I could feel it today! Felt like I had taken a month off. But I did 2.75 miles on the TM and the push ups and sit ups (60 each in 3 reps of 20). Always feels good to be done! Listened to our friends Abba today. Love their stuff and sure wish they were still making music. You're on the TM now getting ever so close to your goal!!!

As you know, I ran outside today. And may I say, "Brrrrr!" Very cold! Well, mostly only my neck was cold. A scarf would not have been amiss.

But it was a good run and I'm very close. Only about 9 miles to go!

Merry Christmas!

Well, we had a fantastic day! And I'm glad I ran today because I had many snacks and a delicious dinner!

I did about 6 miles this morning and I thought for sure that SOMEONE (Wayne!!) would come and save me! I just really whined internally the entire time I was on the treadmill. I'm tired. I'm sore. I'm old. I WANT to be lazy!

That said, I am glad I did not quit. I'm so close. I have 15.4 miles to go!

That's it. That's what I have left to complete by the 29th. Crazy, huh? From 400 miles to 21.6 in about 12 weeks!

I ran like crazy today because I'm so worried I'm going to miss my goal due to fun shenanigans!

I did a 6 mile run this morning and then I decided to do 2 more this afternoon. I'm worn out!

Danger!

I'm not behind, but I'm feeling a little worried! I've got 30 miles to complete by the 29th so I really have to keep up on my running. What is that? 5 miles per day? Hm....I have to plan this out!

I had a great run on the treadmill today - so glad you have it! I really love looking at your Wall of Achievement! That is neat to have your stuff right there.

Good news and bad news. I ran a little over 6 miles. Yay! The bad news is that my Nike+ came darn close to agreeing with your treadmill. The treadmill told me I ran 6.34 miles and Nike+ tells me I ran 6.42. So that isn't too much of a discrepancy, especially over that distance.

Josh toyed with my emotions today! I thought he wanted to run outside with me....but noooo! He was joking!

I'm so happy I'm here!

Gym

Today was a gym day for me. It has been rainy all day long! And I like "weather".....but not when I have to run! So I went to the gym. I didn't lift weights. Just ran on the treadmill. Which, i have to say, takes a high level of dedication. I'm impressed that you do it. Because I could just get off. If I'm 3 miles away from home, I have to keep running. But nothing says I have to stay on the treadmill.

Just like when I tried to do the bike at the hotel gym. The treadmills were full, so I figured I'd branch out. I lasted 5 minutes!

So, as usual, you are my hero!

Back!

Yay I'm back! I had a great night of sleep last night - always nice to be in my own bed!

I had a really good run today, even though it was totally dreary. In fact, it started raining this afternoon and rained throughout the night. Did not rain on my parade, though!

Well, good news. I've been wondering about the calibration of my iPod. Now I've had two different treadmills - in two different states, on two different coasts! - tell me that it is correctly calibrated. Which is great because I've been secretly wondering if I'm cheating on my goal! But it looks like it is legit. And now we can confidently test your treadmill when I'm home.

Have fun tomorrow! Just a couple of more days and we will be together! I can't wait!

Brrrr!

Pretty sure my blood turned into a slushy for a period tonight! It is cold! So, I will tell you that I did a lot of FAST walking!

I did run this morning. The hotel has a little gym. That is great! Downside is that it is in a different building. BRRRRRR! Also, that room was crazy hot! And they turned down the heat for me. So I only put in 5 miles, not 6. But I was really hot, my lips were sooo dry, and I was bored. So 5 is good. I'm still ahead of my goal. And, boy, the clock is ticking on that goal!

I ate healthy today, too! Yay!

Blah!

Well, my run was SAD! Why? Because it was HOT! And I waited until it was really hot to run. And I wore the hottest running pants EVER! I can't believe it, actually. They were so hot.

Anyway, it was not fun. But I did it. But, for the first time in a long time, I had a running headache. I think I just got really dehydrated out there. So I drank a lot of water today!

Tomorrow will be nice in the morning but who knows what my evening will bring! Because I will be in DC! Yep, tomorrow is the day. I fly out at 1:47 PM.

I'll update you from the Capitol! I'm staying right on the hill! Or, at least, very close to it!

Good Morning

We are getting a blizzard! Snowing like mad and blowing like crazy! Expecting 14 inches and I believe it! So I ran inside again today. Yes, I'm a whimp! Did the exercises, too, and all went fine. So I have finished one week at 1.5% incline on the TM and 60 pushups and situps. Feel good about that.

Forgot!

To weigh in! Early NY start I guess. Yeah, I'm obsessive about it. Which is why I'm not purposefully implementing it immediately!

I had a good - but irritating - run this am. Irritating because some guy took forever getting his dog out of my way and I actually had to STOP. I bet I lost 30 seconds! GRRRR!

We went to the gym tonight and, let me tell you, I was not interested! But I did it. Walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes at a solid incline. Then did leg weights. Why the sudden interest in leg weights? THIS SKIRT!

In the grey color - which also happens to be on sale! Anyway, I love the skirt but....you know!

Hope you didn't blow away today! Mom says it was windy!

Busy!

Finally! A busy workout day! I ran this AM and then we went to the gym tonight.

Great run this morning. I has been warmer and nice to be out. Lots of people! I was late leaving my house though. Like always! Geesh, you would think I'd be leaving early and getting done early. NOPE!

Then we went to the gym. Did some treadmill and then lifted some weights. Although I don't know about my Christmas muscles.........

My New Years resolution is going to be to weigh myself only once a week. And make sure I get 9 servings of fruits/veggies every day. I'm really not doing well with that. And I'm so frustrated with the scale. Yesterday it was 133. Today 136. GRRRR!

Oh well! I can still fit in my pants!

Sleep

Well, doesn't a good night of sleep just change everything? We both know it does! I went to bed around 8:30 last night.....I think! And I had a great night of sleep and a much better day today. Felt better. Did better.

Great run this am. I'm doing well on my goal! I have under 100 miles to go! I've done 303 so far!

Pretty good eating today.....but the sun is down so who knows what will happen now! I do NOT have Christmas cookies here, and that is really helpful.

Another day

I ran today, but I sure didn't feel like it. But I've gotta stay on target! I didn't sleep well last night and it just really made things a chore today.

Good Morning

Another week begins and I decided to up my work a little. I raised the lift on the TM from 1.0% to 1.5% and I could sure feel that additional .5%. Amazing. Doesn't seem like much but I could feel it right from the start. Also upped my pushups and situps to from 50 reps each to 60 each. We'll see how the week goes.

Did it

I ran today, and I cannot believe I did, actually. I'm tired. And I really didn't sleep well last night. Gee......could it have been the coffee I was drinking at 9 PM??? Yep, I did it. I can own up to my errors in judgment.

I had a lot of work stuff on my mind so I got up at 5. I still could have taken the day off of running but I was out of coffee here! No coffee means no day off sitting around. So once I got bored, I figured I could run or I could go to work. So I ran.

It was hard and I was not interested! But it is done!

Long Day!

Well, I'm finally home from work. We had another filing deadline that ended today and so I was there till 9:30. The good news is that I negotiated time and a half comp time for all my OT hours! So I'm perfectly content to work when I can.

I had a good run this morning, but I think I may need a day off. I'm getting tired.

I only have about 115 miles left to run on my goal! I'm "on target" which means I'll be finishing at home, for sure.

Just an OK eating day here. We had lunch brought in - pizza. I had two slices. Oh well!

No Snacks!

Yep, another day of no snacks! I skipped lunch, so I'm not particularly proud of how I've fueled my body today, but I didn't snack and I'm having a super healthy and hearty dinner. But I don't like skipping lunch because I know it is not good for me.

I just lost track of time - really busy day. I had a meeting at National University. Well, I attended a forum. I think I will apply there. I will tell you this, I've been feeling really disheartened and this really gave me some hope. So that is a great thing.

You would not believe how dang cold it was this morning!!! I saw frost! BRRRRR! I think I saw snow! I am pretty sure I saw Santa making a deal to make Kensington the new North Pole!

I had a really great run this morning. And then I slacked the rest of the day! No hill. No gym.

But also NO SNACKS!!! Day 1!

I'm Trying!

I really need to work on my eating this week. A big problem I have is that I'm just so over it when I get home that I don't have any desire to make anything. Which leads to unhealthy choices.

So today grocery shopped and then I cooked all afternoon. Now I have some things in my fridge and some in my freezer and, hopefully, I'll be set for the week!

I'll let you know how it goes! I have some curry chickpeas, sweet potato soup, and a middle eastern sort of thing of ground lamb and bulgur.

Also, it is insanely dry here. Not as dry as in the mountains though. I told Bart that I woke up feeling like someone had been punching me in the mouth, my lips were so dry!

Good Morning

Now, it's Saturday morning and I'm back to the TM indoors. Nice and warm in here! I ran 2.75 miles this morning. I did take yesterday off so it felt good to be back at it this morning. Also did the push ups and sit ups. Have some turkey dinner and pecan pie to work off!

Thanksgiving Day Dash & Dine!

We did it! Paul, Angie, Joshua, and I ran in the Thanksgiving Day Dash & Dine 5K in Lindstrom, MN on Thursday morning! It was only +5 at race time but the sun was shining and it wasn't windy so it was actually pretty nice. And we all got warm as we ran. The trail was snow packed and there were about 150 runners we think. And I won 3rd place in the "men over 60" category! My time was 32.06 which isn't so great but apparently good enough for a 3rd place medal among the old guys. I had no clue! I was as surprised as I could be when the presenter called my name! It was fun!!! So, I guess a new tradition has been born here.

Must be.....

....getting old! I asked Bart tonight if it is colder then it has ever been before. He said no, it's not. Pretty sure he's wrong.

Anyway, it's cold!

I ran this morning and it was great. About six miles.

And that's it! I didn't do hills, didn't go to the gym. I did, however, manage to eat junk all day. I'm sure that will be reflected in the weigh in tomorrow!

Good Morning

I was supposed to be taking today off because of the run tomorrow morning but I forgot to reset my alarm and once I was up I just fell into my routine. So, I did the TM today where it was nice and warm!Also did the exercise routine and did it all to golden oldies today. Weight was up a pound yesterday and back down a pound today. Makes no sense at all.

We gotta be nuts to be doing this run tomorrow. This morning they are predicting it to be about +12 in the morning going all the way up to +19 by afternoon. If we thaw out from the run we'll have turkey dinner at supper time. That's the plan anyway.

Running

Well, I was going to start my post with some whining about how dang cold it was this morning that I had to wear a thermal shirt! But now I can't because....well, shoot! 8 degrees?

I had a really great run this morning. About 6 miles and I felt strong all the way though.

Weighted a million pounds more today.

No hills or gym. It is just so darn cold, it's no fun! Shoot. See, I whined about the cold.

Good Morning

This morning I ran a full 3.1 miles on the TM just for fun. Actually, I got lost in the soundtrack from Shrek and before I knew it I was there. Felt good and went fine. Weight is back up a pound this morning however. Been eating cookies before bed over the weekend. A real no, no. So no more of that this week.

Ahead!

As of this morning, I was ahead of my goal. By about six miles. And that is the first time in a couple of weeks! So that is happy!

Really great run this morning. Quiet out and I felt speedy. Which was reflected in my time. I love it when my "feeling" meshes with reality. Well, when I'm feeling good!

No hills today - it was just darn cold. And dreary. I just didn't feel like it. No gym either. I had dinner with some girlfriends. And it was fun and delicious! We had Thai. I had panang curry - with vegetables and brown rice. So a bit healthy!

Goodbye Shoes......

Well, I've made a life decision. One I'm VERY sad about. I am now only wearing heels for special occasions.

Let's have a moment of silence, please.

Yeah, I'm sad too. But I wore heels 3 times this week and my foot is aching like old times. So....culprit determined. I just need to come to grips. I have such awesome shoes!! I love them. LOVE.

I just need to pout a bit. The reality is that running is more important to me then cute shoes. I can't believe I just said that.

Anyway, I had a good run today! Super foggy this morning! It was neat. Strange though because it was foggy and then I looked outside around 6 and it seemed to have burned off. Then I went out to run and it was super foggy again! I mean, it was like I was getting rained on!

And I did hills at lunch. And I did the gym! I'm totally going to have muscles. I just know it.

Hey, I have a treadmill calibration idea. I finally have my Nike+ pretty dialed in again. So I know that it gives me fairly accurate distances. I can run on the treadmill with it and see if the treadmill thinks I ran as far as my Nike+.

Did I tell you that Nike+ tells me that I have run over 1000 miles since Bart gave it to me? Very cool!

What else? Oh, yeah. I HATE my sleeping sock. It is so tight on my calf. Doesn't it bug you?

Whew!

Dang, I'm worn out! But I've been doing a lot, so that's to be expected, I guess.

I ran this morning. Another beautiful day. Not too cold in the am yet. Not time for my thermal shirt! And, yes, I really do have one.

Then I did hills at lunch. That is the best way to get out of the office.

No gym tonight because I wanted to go to the farmers market after work. Which I did!

Healthy eating today. Man, I've been eating too much cheese. I really have to knock that out. It is part of my weight problem, no question. And I've been eating a ton of crackers and not enough fruits/veggies. I mean, they are whole wheat crackers but, still, I am going to start having fruit/veggies when I'm hungry FIRST. Then have crackers if I'm still hungry.

Catching up!

Yep....catching up! Taking two days off over the weekend left me about 8 miles behind my goal. Yikes! But now I'm back "on target". So I did a lot of running today!

And I had a great run this morning. Cold though!

I took my iPod and Nike+ to the gym last night so I could recalibrate it on a known distance. Makes such a difference with my time. I'm done screwing with it! It is staying where it is and that's that!

I did hills at lunch. And then I ran a couple more miles tonight.

And I guarantee you that I'll weigh 10 more pounds tomorrow!!

Doing Better

I was religious yesterday about not snacking! And I am down a whole pound this morning. This has made a major difference in my attitude this morning. I don't expect that every day but I am determined to lose at least 5 pounds here and will just keep at it. I ran with determination this morning and it felt good. Did 2.8 miles. I still feel like I'm running faster on the TM than I do when I'm outside but don't get as far. Wonder how I can check this out. Took our friend Barry with me this morning.

Back at it!

I sure slacked this weekend. No idea why. It certainly was not my intention. But my scale sure noticed this morning. Sigh.

Good run this am. The usual, you know. Really nice morning. Not cold and a blue sky. I like this getting bright earlier business.

Then I went to the gym tonight with Bart AND Jessica! It was like a party! Did some cardio and then upper body weights. Muscles, here I come!

Good Morning

Not so good really. I got on the scale this morning and was not happy to see it. So, things have got to change here in the eating department. I did run on the TM this morning and did the exercises like I've been doing every day. I've also been taking my shoes to work with me and taking a very brisk 20 minute walk around the building every day after lunch on work days. But these things don't seem to help a bit in the weight department. So, as of today I am dieting. I can't stand this.

Quick Update

I'm ready for bed! But a quick update that I am either slower then molasses or I really really need to recalibrate my iPod/Nike+ again. I should have just left it alone in the first place!

I ran today and it felt good but it was slow! Oh well!

I also think I made someone cry. Dog owners are crazy. This lady had a little puppy on a retractable leash. I typically run in the street when I come upon any dog. So I was in the street and she still let her dog run out to me and it got right under my feet! And I said, "Lady, you've got to control your dog! I almost trampled it!" And when I came back around the block, she was sitting on a stoop with her head down just cuddling her dog!

But, geesh, I don't want to kill someone's pet!

Big Day!

Well, today was the day! I went back to the gym tonight. I met Jessica there, actually. This was the first time she has visited the new gym. It was good but I ended up doing more cardio then I wanted because I was waiting for her. While she was waiting for me. In the parking lot. Yep! I left my phone in the car, so I didn't even know she was waiting for me out there.

So I walked for 20 minutes at an incline. Then I went to look for my partner. Then we both walked for 20 minutes at an incline! Then we lifted weights, focusing on arms. I want arm muscles for Christmas!!

I did run this morning. I did about 6.5 miles. It was good but cold. I could see my breath! And I was thinking that it was perfect brussels weather because the grass looked frosty! Bet you are glad you don't have to deal with weather like that!!

Back at it!

Hi! Are you sleeping well in your very own bed? It is great to get away, but great to get home!

I had great run this morning, even though it was cold enough to snow out there! Brrrr! But I did about 5 miles. It was lonely!

I'm happy to report that I'm still "on target" for my goal. I was worried about those two days I took off! It was a relief to see I was on target and not ten miles behind.

I ran hills at lunch. Gym tomorrow!

Know what saying I hate? "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Why? Because it is true!!! I went to Fry's today and got ear buds that were 2.99 each! I was so excited! Let me tell you, you get what you pay for! I'm taking them back tomorrow! Boy, I'm ready for this drama to be over. I just hope my new iPod isn't actually an ear bud killer and that I don't ruin Bart's pair!

Good Morning

I'm back home and back in the swing of things here. Sort of. I ran on the TM this morning and it went fine but I wonder if it's calibrated correctly. Ran at 5.5 mph (it says) for 30 minutes (I know that's right) but that only gets me to 2.77 miles and I feel like I'm running much faster than I do outside. And, yet, outside I can do 3 full miles in just under 31 minutes. Don't know how to check this out. But anyway I'm back in gear here. Sure was fun running outside in California though! I also got back to my 50 push ups and 50 sit ups this morning which I had slacked off on over the past week.

Good Morning

My last day to run in San Diego and I ran the full Kensington 3 mile route. Made it it 30.47 which is pretty good considering the run we had yesterday. Gorgeous morning out there. Rained earlier but the sun came out. About 60 and just perfect. Goodbye San Diego until next time! It's been fun.

Yes, we did! We ran the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in San Diego, CA this morning! And we finished! Even better. My time was 31.51 which I think was pretty good for an old man. And given the slow start because of the 15,000+ people at the starting line and that HUGE hill we had to come up right at the end....well, it's amazing. I am sooooo glad we did this!

Getting Close!

Well, the big day is almost upon us! I'm pretty excited for our run tomorrow. I can't wait to wear my awesome t-shirt!

I ran yesterday and today. You know the drill....I did "The Usual!" Today was especially good. My time was great and it was so much cooler then it has been. A really enjoyable outing!

Too hot!

I totally slept in this morning. While that is great, we are finally having summer. That means it was HOT when I hit the road this am. So, not my most enjoyable run but it is always an enjoyable accomplishment. I really didn't see anybody I knew today. But that's to be expected, I guess, because I was so much later then usual.

I will tell you my run was much slower and much lonelier!

Company!

Yay! I have company! I'm really glad you are here....you probably noticed!

I got up at the usual time today but I wasn't sure if I would have time to run. I did though. And I'm glad I did. It was fun! As usual. Generally, once I get started I'm happy to be out there. It is just the getting going that is the hard part.

I sure had drama getting started though. I got some headphones at Costco and was trying them out. They are too big for me! They have behind the ear hooks, so I thought it would be fine. Nope. They flopped right out! I came home, grabbed a different pair, and started over! This headphone drama will not best me!

Good Morning

I decided this morning I needed to run a whole 3.1 miles on the TM just to make sure I could do it and I did! Took me 34 minutes at 5.5 mph so it was slow but I did it. I've been running 30 minutes every day so that gets to be 2.7 or 2.8 miles but I haven't done a full 5K route since I was running outside last month. So I just wanted to know that I could do it without keeling over! I'm not planning to run tomorrow. Will just be getting up and getting out of here!

Big Run

I had a pretty big run this morning, a bit under 8 miles. Good thing too! No hills and no gym! I left work early today so I worked through lunch and so I skipped hills. And, hey, it's Friday! I just didn't want to go to the gym on Friday night!

We went out for some Indian food and then saw Paranormal Activity 2. Really good and really scary!

Ouch!

Yeah, I'm sore! No gym tonight. We are both too broken. But it's a good broken!

Today was just a totally beautiful day here today. Made my run this morning really enjoyable. I saw some nice sunrise as the clouds were burning off. I ran under 6 miles today. I only have 266.4 miles to go! Nuts. I'm eatin em up!

I did hills at lunch, too. Again, so nice out. It was fun!

Healthy eating today. That's good.

Another busy day!

Well, I sure had another busy day. I didn't run this morning because I....just wasn't feeling it! But I had some errands to run, so I did that.

I did run hills at lunch. It was such a beautiful day so that was really enjoyable.

And we went to the gym again tonight! Very fun. I ran three miles on the treadmill and then I did lower body weights. Lower body is not as much fun as upper, I think.

They also have these hydro-massage beds there and we got a free try. Best 10 minutes of my day! Have you every tried this? Your body is protected from the water, so you don't get wet. But it has these warm water jets that go up and down your body. Feels so good! Not part of my membership package, but that's OK. I like the Asian massage better, anyway! I'll give my money to a person, not a machine!

Fun!

Boy, did I have a fun night! The gym was really great! I had the same thought you did - that it would be so packed we would not be able to do anything. But it was actually really empty so it was easy to do whatever we wanted. And they have a TON of equipment. Seriously so much.

We started by walking on the treadmill. I did 20 minutes at 4.1 and a 4 incline. And I can really feel it! I'm sore. And I was hot and sweaty. Then I did some of the weight machines. All upper body stuff. I did a lot of different things but I did a weird triceps thing, and a seated row, and shoulder stuff. And I also did this ab thing where you support yourself with your forearms and let your feet hang down. Then you pull your knees up. HARD. I know I'll feel it tomorrow.

I had a big workout day in general. I ran 5.2 miles this morning. And I ran hills at lunch. It was good to be back out there.

And, yes, despite all the running I remain 5 pounds above goal. GRRRRRRR!

The gym opens tomorrow! Pretty exciting! We're going - well, as long as I get out of work at a decent time. I should.

You already know I slept in today. Delicious! But I did run hills at lunch and that was really fun.

Cranky!

I'm so crabby! My new carpet saved me from a full blown tantrum tonight. I went to Henry's Marketplace (now banned from my life!) and came home with a jar of salsa I was going to use. And I could not open the damn thing! I tried all my tricks and even swore at it. Finally I was going to throw it really hard on the floor.....but I could not make my poor carpet suffer due to my rage. Stupid salsa.

Probably I was crabby because I ran really far today and didn't eat well. Well, didn't eat! Which does make me full of the crank. Anyway, I felt better after I ate.

I ran 10 miles today! The longest in quite some time. I ran 5.5 yesterday. And, yes, I'm still over my goal weight! Man.

I guess the gym is opening soon. That's exciting. They are a little behind schedule. I want muscles!

Good Morning

I ran on the TM again today and it went fine. Felt the twinge in my right foot a couple times during the first 5 minutes but once it stretched out it was fine. Hmmmmm...... Checked my heart rate this morning and hit 160! Haven't checked it for a while so I'm surprised it got that high. Running at 5.4 mph.

Big Running!

I totally slept in this morning. Not even on purpose! But I didn't get up until 5:25. And I actually dreamed. I really don't dream very often. Or, at least, I don't remember my dreams often. I dreamed about Zombies!

I had a great run this am. A little over 7 miles. I got rained on! Well, lightly drizzled upon......But it was worth it. It was fun. I did Downhere again.

I also ran hills at lunch! How long has that been!?! I know. Long time. And I could tell. But it was so happy to be out there. Still dreary this afternoon, but that's OK!

Backwards Day!

Ok, well only for pants!

I had a pretty fun run today. I listened to another mix tape from Jessica. And it was really cool out.

These arch things are really helping, I think. I finally changed the foot oven for the sock. I'm going to wear it tomorrow, so I'll let you know how that goes.

No formal exercise tomorrow, I guess. Jessica's sister is in town and the three of us are headed up to LA to hike up to the Hollywood sign! That will be fun - I've never done that before. Then we are having chicken and waffles for lunch at Rosco's! Can't wait - I love that place.

I felt like I had something else to say but now it is gone! So I'll sign off till I remember later!

Oh, I remember! I have to get up at 5 tomorrow. We are leaving at 7 am. DISGUSTING!

Worn out!

Well, darn, that was a long week. I just got home but things went well today and tonight.

I did run this morning and it was great! I listened to Downhere, which I have not listened to for a long time. Then, today, Amy emails me saying she and Paul have concert tickets to see them on 11/13! LUCKY!!!

So, good run. 5ish miles. Slow. But that's ok. I'm still ahead of my goal and that is what counts to me!

Fog!

Sure glad fog isn't all full of ghosts....like I used to believe! We had another foggy morning. I like it - makes running fun!

I had a good run today. I listened to a mix that Jessica made me for my birthday. It's been a while, so that was fun!

Today I ran 5.49 miles. Must have accidentally done an extra loop! It was good. Saw lots of my waving pals.

I did well with eating today, too. It is hard when I'm working so much, but I have been really trying. And, sadly, we know that eating plays such a big part. SIGH. I want to be down to my goal weight again when I see you!

I'm really looking forward to your trip! We want to make hot pot when you're here (it is that soup that we will make right at my table!).

Running and such

Well, I think that foot thing is already helping! I'm much less achy. Still icing, stretching, and taking some ibuprofen. But a big change. I'll switch out my velvet foot oven this week and then I'll really be going places!

Good run today, but slow. Oh well! But I got over 7 miles in. I'm eating up those miles!

My back has really been giving me trouble so I bought some of these ThermaCare things when I was at Costco yesterday. I got 15 of them for ten bucks and I used one today. And I really think it helped. They heat up when they are exposed to air and you can just stick them where you need them!

Hurray for Me!

This deserves it's one post here because for the first time since my injury last spring I ran the whole Fitnatics 5K route this morning!!! The whole dang thing! And I did it in 31.35 which I think is remarkable! I was hoping to do it in 35.0 but I never looked at my watch until I got back home and saw 31.35...I was amazed. I can feel it in my legs now but I did it!! Hurray for me! Also did the 50 push ups and 50 sit ups after that so I am feeling pretty good about myself at the moment. I told GiGi, "I am going to look so good in that casket! People are going to walk by and say, 'He took such good care of himself toward the end!'" Ha!

Weekend

Why are weekends soooo short? I mean, I realize they do consist of two days while the week is made up of 5. But the week actually feels like 50 days and the weekend feels like 50 seconds!

I did not run yesterday. I was just really sore and figured a day off would serve me well. We did go to the batting cages, though. It sure has been some time! And I can tell. SORE!

I ran today. Used my new iPod and it worked just fine. I ran 6.62 miles today. I only have 345.7 miles left to go on my goal!

I have a roast marinating tonight and I'll stick it in the crock pot tomorrow morning. I have some other easy things for the week. I imagine I'll be working a lot due to this filing deadline, so I'm trying to make my life easier.

Well, my foot still isn't 100%. So I bought some arch wraps. These:

So far I like them. My foot didn't bother me at all during my run. I also got a sleep sock and I HATE IT!!! I am taking it back. It is like an oven! I don't know what I was thinking - seriously, the dang thing is practically made out of velvet or something! I'll get a different one that is more "sock-y".

P.S. I bought a new scale. I have decided that I can't possibly weigh so much. It must be the scale. Geeze, I hope this is true.

The dreaded leg cramp!

Ouch! Last night I was sitting on my couch and began to push in the recliner leg (which works now, yay Bart!) and I got cramps in BOTH of my calves!! Oh, agony! It really smarted. I supposed it is the running.

I ran today, but it was slow and hard and not especially fun. I am tired. I'm playing tomorrow by ear. Might be time for a day off. I don't want to do it, but I suppose I should listen to my loudly complaining body.....for once!

I got my new iPod today. Course, I had to turn in my old one. I had a panic when it didn't start charging but then I realized that it was the wrong connector - a super old one!

Raining!

I got rained on today! Well, sprinkled upon a tad is probably more accurate. San Diego rain, don't cha know. But I was glad I brought my ziploc baggie because I think it was enough to damage my iPod.

Great run today, though. 7 miles. Bart called me a hero. Which made my day!

I ate healthy today too. Which I suppose means that I am up to ten billion pounds. But I don't know. Cause I'm taking 2 weeks off from the scale!

Oh, I meant to tell you that I am 2.86 miles ahead of my target and have 358 miles to go!

NO! It isn't all about my health! I want to weigh 130 pounds, dang it!!!

Whew. Another tantrum.

So, irritating. But I ran today. Another long one. And it felt better then Monday! I'm getting stronger, little by little. It was slow though!

Perfect day for running - and I almost didn't go (wonder how much I would have weighed then!!). It sure looked like rain. So I brought a baggie for my iPod, just in case, and hit the road. And it was a great run. Nice and cool but I did not get wet.

Speaking of iPods, my replacement is in! I just have to pick it up. I'll probably wait for Friday so I can fiddle with the Nike+ calibration on Saturday.

I've only got 365.2 miles left on my goal!

Brrrr!

Cold and wet! On both of my outings today! It sure is chilly here, let me tell you. I got drizzled on a bit this morning and a lot this afternoon. In fact, I think it actually really cooled down between my outings. A lot colder when I did hills.

I had a good run this morning. About 7 miles. I need to get some chocolate milk so I can power up before I run!

And I did hills at lunch! I worked though lunch all week last week (lame, I know) so this was my first time in days. Even though it was wet, cold, and generally gross, it was fun!

I weigh a million pounds today. But I ate super healthy. And, you know, I'm a little over this scale business. Just for today. I'll care again tomorrow, I imagine.

Runnin Fool!

I've had big runs this weekend! About 6.5 miles yesterday and a little over 7 today. Cause, yep, I've got a new goal. Ready? Sitting? OK. My goal is to run 400 miles by December 30th. Insane! But I'm going to try! That's about 4.5 miles per day. So I'm padding my distances a bit this weekend.

My plan for the week is this:

Monday: 7 miles
Tuesday: 7 miles
Wednesday: 6 miles
Thursday: 5 miles
Friday 4.5 miles

We'll see how it works out!

Good Morning

I just spilled coffee on my keyboard!! Hate it when that happens. Now, I will have to take it apart and clean it. Anyway, I was having a GREAT morning until then. Had a very good night's sleep and didn't get up until 7:30. Had a good run and did the exercises. AND I was back down 1.5 lbs on the scale this morning. So all to the good until this mishap. Oh well, it keeps me humble.

Curses!

30:01! That was my time today! Crazy! Just one single second! Le Sigh!

It was a really good run, though. And I can tell I'm running so much harder then I had been. Using "the girl" is really helping me stay on pace. I'm glad I decided to do that again.

I'm glad the seasons are changing a bit now. I like running when the sun is just coming up. It is more interesting. There are still clouds and it looks really pretty.

I bet I won't run hills at all this week! Just have not been feeling good and, let's face it, it's been too dang hot! Tomorrow I'm leaving work early because we are going to LA to see a show. So I'll run in the AM but not do hills. I bet I won't do anything on Friday!

I did it!

I ran this morning - and I went to work. My run was great. Under 30 again. That makes me so happy! Work was good, not too hot. But I'm still not 100% and, darn it, I'm going to bed.

I ran 2.7 this morning at the 5.3 mph rate and it seemed harder today than yesterday. But I got it done.

3 years ago when I first started to lose weight I did an online food journal thing. Counted calories and all that. Some online site. Can't remember now what it was called. But it got to be such a chore I quit after a couple of months. I know Angie carries a notebook with her but not sure I want to do that either.

Soooo Close!

But not quite there! My run time today was 30:11 and, let me tell you, I worked hard for that time! Hard run. But everything seems more difficult at the end of the week, truth be told. I just get tired.

I had a fun but totally unhealthy dinner tonight (Italian with Bart and the fam). Back to the healthy eating tomorrow! They brought me chocolates from Hawaii and, yes, I'm eating them!

w00t!!

I'm so excited! For the first time since the marathon, I had a sub-30 minute 3 mile run! So excited! It was 29:55. And I ran hard. I could really tell that I was working for each step. Which is OK.

For quite some time now, I've been using my Nike+ to track my total time and distance. But I have not been using the tool where she tells me:

5 minutes completed
10 minutes completed
15 minutes completed
10 minutes to go
5 minutes to go
4 minutes to go
3 minutes to go
2 minutes to go
1 minute to go.......

So, this morning I decided to use that tool. And it sure kept me on track! I'll do it again tomorrow until I'm consistent again.

And I did run hills today. 5 times. I'll get back to 7 times in the next couple of weeks, I guess. I can really tell I'm getting stronger at them again.

Don't you love those days were running just feels so delicious and fun and not like work at all? I do! And I had one of them today. My mind was full of work irritation, but I really was able to run it off. Felt great. Didn't get rained on, either!

I'm on night three of cereal for dinner. Because I've been getting home so late! But my eating is OK - it is better then frozen pizza!

What am I yaying? My great night of sleep! I just slept like a rock. Felt good.

And I had a really good run this morning. My time was 10:15/mile. That's the best I've done in some time! Hopefully I can keep building on this.

I did pushups and abs, too, when I got home. No hills - I worked again. Tomorrow though.

Dang!

I'm so tired I was half way in bed before I realized I didn't post! The brain....she is not working! I sure didn't sleep well last night. Lots of flopping about. No idea why.

But worry not, Runner Dad! I still got up and ran. And I was so glad to be out doing it. Really humid today. And tonight I took out the trash and it seemed wet out.

Healthy-ish eating today. Only "ish" because I mostly ate bread. And cereal. Oh well. Vegetables will make a showing tomorrow!

I had a muscle spasm in my foot tonight - the right one. Do you ever get that? It was right in the arch.

Had a card from Mom - she said we should quit running!!!! Shes' insane!

Excuses!

Well, I told you first thing yesterday that I was not running for a number of reasons. Then I told you that I did run! I realized that I was just making excuses - deciding my running fate before I even got out of bed. Always a bad plan for me.

I ran 3.7 miles yesterday! Just felt like it. And it felt really good.

I've got to get back to the pushups and bands - I've been slacking.

Slack, Day 2....Day 3 Approaches!

I totally overslept today! And I needed to finish my reading for class. Because I read the wrong darn chapter! Anyway, I didn't run this AM. And I won't tomorrow because I'm driving Bart to the airport tomorrow. And then I'm dropping my car off for some car TLC!

I did run hills today and, as usual, it was really enjoyable. I tell you, this cool summer has been really great in that regard. I can run later in the day, so I don't worry about sleeping in on the weekends and there have only been a couple of days where I thought it was too hot to run at lunch.

Ouch!

Well, there is a first time for everything I guess! I woke up with a leg cramp last night. Seriously, I can't remember that happening before. I cannot imagine why. Some days I do better then others but, overall, I'm a pretty healthy eater. Better take it a bit more seriously, I guess.

Yay!

Well, the scale continues to inch downward. I aim to keep it that way! One thing I'm really bad about is eating lunch. I just get really busy and it just does not happen. I always eat breakfast but often skip lunch. Which means I'm so hungry by the time I get home, that I make super bad choices. And a lot of them! So my goal is eating lunch. I made it my goal yesterday and I successfully did it today!

I did not, however, run hills. I got dressed to go and ended up getting caught up in work drama. Oh well!

I did run this am, and it was great. Lots of people out. But I do not see this one dog walking waving friend of mine for a couple of weeks now. I'm worried! I know where he lives and I almost want to knock and check in on him!! That's weird, right??

I'm eating figs right now. Love em. I went over to the North Park Farmer's Market tonight, before my class (online class). And I bought some Mexican sour gherkins:

Long one!

I'm already ready for bed! Long day today - and I have a headache. Why? Because I'm quitting the pop again! After my 30 days were up I started right up where I left off! Time to cut down again.

I ran this am - slow again, but that will get better with time. Boy, it's cold out!

Did hills at lunch. I'm glad I'm doing that again.

We joined that gym! 10 bucks a month with no contract. It opens mid-October. Well...."If everything goes as planned...." HA! We know how plans go!

A sunny morning here but only 42 so I ran inside again today. Yes, I'm a baby! Been spoiled by the gorgeous weather we've been having prior to this week. So I ran 2.5 miles on the TM with Abba today. Then I did the push ups and sit ups. All good.

I'm calling it! Time for bed! I had a great weekend, but I'm worn out.

I overslept by 25 minutes this morning, but had a good run all the same. Did hills at lunch.

Man, I saw a weight on the scale today that I have not see in a year I bet. Very depressing! Time to get back to it!

Good Morning

It's a cold, rainy, very windy, raw morning here today. 50 degrees but felt colder than that when I stuck my head out the door. So I ran 2.5 miles on the TM inside. All went fine except the little fan seems to have died! It wouldn't come on anyway so I'll have to check that out. I took the Dixie Chicks with me today. It was a little crowded with all of us on the TM at the same time but we managed! Hope you have a good day!

Good Morning

Another perfect morning here! 62 and sunny with no wind. Just gorgeous! And I understand it's going to be this way all winter long! So I ran the 2 miles outside this morning. Took our friend Billy Joel with me and enjoyed his company. My day is off to a good start. Hope yours is, too!

Run X 2!

Boy, did I sleep in today! Until 9:17 in fact. It felt great. I love sleeping in. But by the time I got my runnin times on, it was hot! I did it anyway though. It was a slow run, though. But I think the heat really takes it out of me.

And then I ran this evening! I had something so irritating happen that I decided I needed to work out my crank. I had an appointment at this salon and I totally forgot my school book there when I left! Naturally, they are closed till Tuesday. Very frustrating. So, I came home and ran. And felt better. And I just found a "preview" of my book online. It includes the chapter I need! Whew! All worked out.

Good Morning

And a fine morning it is, too. Was 56 when I left the house, bright and sunny and very little wind. A beautiful morning out there. I did the 2 mile run and it felt good! It's harder outside than it is on the treadmill though. Wonder why. Anyway, I did it! Also did the push ups and sit ups when I got home. Listened to BR-549 today.

Whew!

I tell you, I'm ready for the long weekend. I'm so tired. Busy times at work and I just get worn by the time the week wraps up. Early mornings and I really don't go to bed as early as I should.

Ran this am. Really foggy out! Marine layer. Then hills at lunch.

w00t!

No reason....just felt like saying it. So, I'm tired. I'm already ready for bed. But I'm paying an unbelievable amount of attention.....as you can tell by the fact that I'm posting now! Mostly they are discussing audio problems.

I sure didn't want to get up this morning but I did and I ran. And it was great. I have to say, my pace seems like it is really getting better. It has to be the hills that I'm doing again. I missed doing them and I'm glad I'm back to it.

And I did run hills at lunch. It was happy. It is so good to get outside in the middle of the day.

Big thunder storms woke us up at 4 am and we had a good rain. 9/10's in the gauge out there but it was still raining when I wanted to go outside so I ran on the treadmill this morning. All good. Then I did the pushups and situps. Listened to the Ditty Bops today.

Short and Sweet

Yep, it is late and I'm ready to crawl right into bed!

I did run this am - late. I left here at about 9 am. It was a good run and my time is getting better.

I am down a pound! Yay! Got to get back to my goal weight so I can work on my new goal weight!

September 1

A new month and a new goal: I am going to lose 5 lbs this month! I will eat my 3 meals a day but no sweets or fattening snacks until I reach this goal. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it. (So far, it's going great!)

I ran outside again today and it was great. Cool (only 56) and no breeze at all. Absolutely calm. Did the 2 mile route and then the push ups and sit ups when I got home. I took Elvis with me today! I hardly ever listen to him but when I turned on the iPod, there he was. So we ran together and he did pretty well for a dead guy.

If you're healthy enough to run.....

I'm not 100% and I might feel a bit worse then yesterday! But I just kept remembering "the rule" from home. "If you are healthy enough to >insert totally fun thing here<, then you're healthy enough to go to school!"

I was healthy enough to run so I was healthy enough to go to work!

I had a good run this am and was running late so didn't do any pushups.

Then I did hills at lunch. I didn't feel great so it was not very fun. But I did em!

Good eating today again and I'm seeing movement (in the right direction!!) on the scale.

Yay!

I ended up working late tonight so I am going to work late tomorrow. Which I love. I love sleeping in!

Over it!

Just got home and I'll be darned if I'm not going smack to bed. I'm not feeling great so I hope I can just sleep it off.

I did run this morning and that was great! My pace is getting a lot better and I feel a lot stronger. I am,natch, still stretching. I can't get over how much it has helped. Why didn't I pay attention to what my Dad was doing???

I did pushups and abs when I got home and I also ran hills at lunch. Busy day.

My scale is still crazy high. But I'm working on it!

Treadmill Today

It was already 81 and humid out there when I was ready to go so I decided to warm up the treadmill for the winter season. Ran a full 30 minutes at a 1% incline. I didn't discover it was set on incline though until I was all done! Even in the house it was 72 so I was sweating up a storm by the time I was done. Felt good! Then I did the usual sit ups and push ups. I took Neil Diamond with me today.

Weekend Roundup

Well, I think I've learned a lesson. I hope I've learned a lesson! I should have gone to the doctor straight away when I hurt my foot. I tell you, stretching has been a game changer. I feel great. And I was SO worried.

I ran both yesterday and today. My pace is still really slow, but I'll work on it. Hills next week.

I have decided I'm joining that 10 dollar gym. I figure I can't really lose. If it is too busy, I'm just out 10 bucks! It opens in October sometime but I'm going to sign up this week. I can see myself lifting weights a couple nights a week after work.

I did well with eating this weekend. The lack of structure on the weekends can make it hard, but I did well!

Worn!

I bet you are tired and worn out from your full day! I know I am! Getting ready for bed here, actually.

I did my stretches this AM (two days! I'm crazy!) and then I had a really good run. I seriously think these stretches are helping me.

Then I did hills at lunch, and that felt good to be out there. I saw a semi that was stuck! He was exiting a driveway and this little road has kind of a little ditch as a shoulder, to deal with rain I suppose. But he had to pause for traffic and his "pusher" tires stopped right above that ditch! So he was just spinning as he tried to pull out! Could not more at all. By the time I was done with hills, they were trying to put 2x4s and plywood under there!!

Bart and I went to dinner tonight for a 40th birthday. I didn't eat super healthy, but it was not terrible for me and it was delicious and it was my only eating out this week!

I'm a stretcher!

Yep. I did it. I stretched. And.....my foot felt better all day. Is it psychological? Or is it actually possible that my muscles have been so tight they are causing this trouble? But I honestly did notice a difference all day.

And I had a great run! For the first time ever, my mileage was way off. I did the usual route which, as we know, is about 3 miles. My Nike+ told me I only did 2.93. Lies! I had the transmitter in a shoe pouch on the lace and I could see it was a little cockeyed today. Guess it needs to be more carefully placed! Anyway, my time was a lot better today too. And I DO think that was psychological. I think I was slowing myself down as I was waiting for the doctor to lower the hammer upon me!

I really wanted to have pizza tonight. But I did not! Whew! Beat the craving.

Good Morning

Another cool but gorgeous morning here. Only 52 when I left the house but the sun was coming up in the east and the full moon was setting in the west. Absolutely calm so just a great morning for a run. I did the 2 mile run and then my other exercises when I got home. I listened to the Shrek soundtrack this morning. A great start to the day!

We're going to the Minnesota State Fair tomorrow so I won't be running in the morning. I will be walking for 6-8 hours during the day and think that will be enough!

The News!

Which you already know! But I'm so glad that all my dire predictions were incorrect. No surgery. No walking cast. No serious problem.

So, what do I need to do? Continue with the ibuprofen and ice but I really need to start stretching. So I shall!

I ran today - considered it my Last Supper of runs, actually! It was great and really quiet today. Not many people out. Probably they were already emotionally prepared for the hot hot day. If so, they were not disappointed. It's been hot!

Another gorgeous morning here but pretty cool today. Only 54 when I left the house so I wore jeans and even a sweatshirt and was glad to have both on! Bright and sunny though so just beautiful. Ran my 2 miles and then did the push ups and sit ups when I got home. Listened to some more of Mamma Mia again today.

1000th Post!!

Wow, I can't believe it! Yay us! This is our 1000th post! We not only dedicated runners, we are for real bloggers!

Well, in honor of this auspicious event (that I didn't know about till I logged in!), I ran this morning! And it was great. Interesting that my time was better today. I think it is related to the fact that I ran hills yesterday. It really helps my speed.

And I ran hills again today, too. It was hot, so I only did 4, but it was so great to get out of the office.

Did abs and pushups, too.

You know, yesterday I left late because I wanted to finish some homework. So it was maybe 7:15 when I left. And I could sure tell a difference in the traffic! Man, early is better.

And I'm almost done with my research paper for my class. I'm glad for that!

My appointment is tomorrow at 8:45. I'll let you know how it goes.

Much cooler here this morning. 64 When I left the house and I went for a 5 mile bike ride this morning instead of running. Very nice out there and I had a good ride. Wildlife day I guess because I saw 6 wild turkeys and 2 deer along the way. Started listening to the Mama Mia soundtrack. Love that Abba music! Then I did my push ups and sit ups when I got home.

One more thing!

I meant to tell you that there is a new gym opening up in Mission Valley. It is called Chuze Fitness and it is only 10 bucks a month with no contract. Usually gyms loop you in for 2 years around here.

Anyway, depending on what happens on Wednesday, I might join. If I have to stay off the foot, it might be a good idea. The downside is that it does not open till October.

Ready......

To go to the doctor. My foot hurts. Not a lot. But it does. Maybe I'm just obsessed! But I will do whatever Dr. Brown tells me.

I ran this am (I know!) and it was OK. I wasn't super into it but I wanted to go. So I did! I did hills for the first time in a long time today too! I sure can tell I haven't been doing that. It was really hard!

I was an hour late getting out there this morning so I didn't run until 8 am. It was already 74 by then and it's still humid so not so much fun today. Cold front supposed to come through here tonight and cool us off. Sure hope so. I listened to Country Oldies this morning. Heard all about Your Cheatin' Heart and other fine things!

Ouch!

Well, I sure thought of you today. I remember how totally shocked and surprised you were when you when to the doctor to have her tell you that you were all good but she wanted to see you to tell you that you really were NOT all good! I fully thought this would be a "you've got no problems" call. Shows what I know!

I've had a busy day and night, so I have not had a chance to look into this more. But I have an appointment with the podiatrist on Wed. So I'll know plenty more then!

And I did run today. And, frankly, I intend to continue to do so - at least till Wednesday. I don't think this is something to be cured by rest. We'll see though!

Good Morning

We had a warm night here so it was 71 when I left the house this morning. That is very unusual. And the dew point was about that, too. Tropical humidity. So, needless to say, I worked up a good sweat this morning on my 2 mile run. Did my other exercises when I got back to the house and did it all to the soundtrack of Footloose.

Stuff and things.....

Today I did stuff. And I also did things.

This morning I ran. And it was a good run! Slow though. But I was happy to be out there.

I also did pushups and abs. Not a lot, but getting back to that.

I worked on a spreadsheet today to keep track of weight, calories in, exercise calories burned. I guess I can't attach it here, but I'll email it to you.

I did pretty good eating wise, so I'm happy about that!

Another nice morning here. 61 when I left the house and a little breezy. But I ran the whole 2 miles again and it seems to be going fine. Foot feels ok. I'm still icing it afterwards here more as a precaution than anything else. But it seems to be ok. Listened to Simon and Garfunkel this morning. Always loved those guys.

Reboot!

I've got to get it together! I'm not going to lie, it was really upsetting to realize I have let the scale creep up so much. Yeah, only 2 pounds since last time but that does not mean I'm only 2 pounds above my goal! I'm like 7 above.

And a lot of that is my eating. I've been eating crap and a lot of it.

I need to do better in general but I specifically need to quit eating cheese. It is so high calorie and I eat so much of it!

So I'm really going to work on my food intake.

I did run today and it was good! Been icing the foot and taking ibuprofen. No word on the x-ray yet.

It was 62 when I left the house this morning so a lot warmer than yesterday. Cloudy though but not windy so a very nice morning to run my 2 miles. Then I did the push ups and sit ups when I got home. All went well. Sure feels good to be out there again.

Being Responsible

I really thought....well, hoped, that these two weeks off would resolve this foot issue. No luck. Honestly, I felt it Monday. So I decided to call my doctor and make an appointment. And, luckily, I was able to get in today! I've already emailed you this, but here it is for posterity's sake:

Well, she thinks it is just an irritated tendon. Keep icing and take 800 mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours. She sent me for an xray to rule out a fracture (from that fall I took which immediately preceded this injury). Hopefully that will be clear. If so, we will let ice and ibuprofen take care of it. If it is still an issue - at this level or worse - in a week, I'll see a podiatrist.

So, we'll see! I never take medicine, so I bet the ibuprofen will make a big difference for me! We talked about cortisone, but I'm not interested in that now. This is more of an irritation then agony. It is like living with a tween (tiny painful!) verses a teen (giant painful!). Or a level 5 spice (out of 10). Enough to feel it, not enough to make you hate life the next day!

I did run this morning. And I was, as usual, sooo happy to be back out there. Took a few seconds off of Monday's time. I'll keep plugging away!

I sure can feel the bands that I did yesterday. Sore!

I did pushups and abs this am, too. Then Jessica and I met for a walk at the zoo. Super fun! So a good day.

I weighed two pounds more today then I did the last time I was at the doctor!!!

Good Morning

Brrrr.... It was only 50 when I got up this morning and 52 when I left the house (in blue jeans and a sweatshirt!) but once I was out there it was a great morning. Ran the whole 2 miles again and took a watch today so know that I did it in 21.41. Not that great but pretty good considering I have been "off line" for almost 4 months. At the moment I don't really care about the time just the distance. Then I did 45 push ups and 45 sit ups when I got home. I listened to the The Nylons this morning.

Day o' Bands

I've decided that, in an effort to ease back into running, I'm going to do one day on and one day off this week. So this morning I dedicated to upper body bands!

The best part about the bands is that each color is a different resistance. So if I get to good on one color, I'll move up to the next. There are other ways to increase the resistance, too.

So, I did that for about 40 minutes. And I'm sore!

A run tomorrow! Although, I'm not going to lie. My foot feels a little tender today. So that is part of why I'm taking it easy. I suppose I ought to suck it up and call the doctor already!

GREAT morning!

For the first time since about the 20th of March, I ran a whole, complete TWO FULL MILES! I was going to stick to 1.5 this week but it's such a beautiful morning out there and I felt great and I just said, go for it. And I did. And it was all fine. Very good. Took the Dixie Chicks with me and they kept me moving. Didn't take a watch so have no idea what my time was and think it was slow but I don't care!

Back at it!

Well, today was the day! I ran. And I was really anticipating it; in fact, I almost ran last Monday but made myself hold off.

I slept in till 9 and didn't hit the road till around 11, but it wasn't too hot so a late start was fine.

It felt SO great to be back out there! I had a really fun run and loved listening to my iPod.

Amazing how only two weeks starts to decimate the muscles! I was really working for it today. My time was 10:32/mile, so not too bad after 2 weeks off. I bet I'll be feeling it tomorrow.

I am going to take it easy this week - I don't know if I'll run tomorrow in the AM. And I know I won't run hills. I don't want to overdo it. And my foot felt fine while running, but tomorrow will be the true test.

Another stormy night here last night and we got another 1.3 inches of rain! Unreal. So, it was foggy out there this morning and humid. I upped my running to 1.5 miles today and it seemed to be fine so I will stay at that level now for a week or two and see how it goes.

Much cooler here this morning! Big storms came through again last night. 1.2 inches of rain, trees down and tons of leaves and branches on the road. But I walked a mile north and ran it back anyway. Felt good to be out there this morning. Not so humid as it has been all week. More storms coming later today though. Can't seem to shut it off this summer. Have fun out there!

It was not quite as hot or humid here this morning but warm enough. 68 when I left the house. I walked a mile out and ran it back. Worked up a good sweat doing it. Took Elton J with me today.

Shake Weight

Yep, I have one! Bart bought it for me. Mainly, I think, due to the inappropriate commercial! I used it yesterday and I can feel it a bit today. I've never had an 'as seen on tv' thing before, so I'll keep you up to date.

Also did the bands. But I'm really ready to run. Sunday is my day. I almost gave in and did it yesterday, but I'm sticking with my commitment.

Good Morning

Yes, I know it's Sunday and I don't usually do anything on Sundays but this is the end of my vacation so I'm not going to work today so I figured I had better do something. Especially after I got on the scale! I have work to do! So, I went for the 5 mile bike ride today. Then did my 45 sit ups and 45 push ups both of which I have been neglecting while in Montana. I continued listening to Mama Mia again today. Now I have a full day of work in the garden and then mowing the lawn which could almost be cut for hay!

Good Morning

I woke up at 6 am but stayed in bed until 6:30. Had my coffee and devotions and then went for my walk/run. Walked a half mile today and ran for one and a half. Felt good. And it wasn't 85 out there this morning. 65 or so I think. Listened to Neil Diamond and he kept me moving along. Foot feels fine every day now so hope that continues to be the case.

Band-aid

Did the bands again today. Had a hard time getting motivated! But I did it and that's what counts. It was lower body day again. Interesting that my foot ached today. I wonder if it is related to muscles getting tightened up. Well, I'm pretending it's related to that!

Running Again

Nothing fancy and only 1 mile runs but I've been doing it every morning while on the farm. Started last Sunday morning. Walked a mile out and then ran back. Went fine with no problems in the foot so have continued doing it every morning now. So far, so good. I don't plan to push it though. I'll be content with 1 mile runs for another week at least. Then I'll see how 2 miles goes. I even went for a 1 mile run tonight when we got to our motel in Glendive, MT. Have been in the car all day and just needed to sweat a little. And I did, too. Temp was 85!

Battle of the Bands

Whew! Bands are HARD!!

I focused on upper body stuff today, and I can tell! I'm a little sore! I took one exercise out of each upper body muscle section in the book. Probably puttered around with it for about 45 minutes. I can totally cut down the time, but it took some time to figure the new stuff out.

I miss running, but this will see me though!

So, I'm taking two weeks off of running. In all honesty, my foot is just not getting better. And I don't want my stubbornness to land me in a terrible situation. So I'm taking two weeks off, starting yesterday.

Black Eyed Peas

You know, I've been obsessively listening to the marathon album (which features the above mentioned song!) and it is probably time to branch out!

And again!

Shock of shocks....I ran this morning. I'm ready to start adding some distance, but I want to take it easy a bit longer.

Fun run today. Lonely out there though! Didn't see any of my waving pals today. I did the bands today and also some ab things.

No hills again. Things have been busy, but I really need to get back to that. I miss it and it makes me a lot happier at work.

Upswing!

Well, my foot feels better! Is it because I've been stretching a bit? And I've not been wearing Birkinstocks since Sunday. I'm wondering if all their bumps and valleys are exacerbating the issue.

I did run today and it was good! I really left late and, actually, almost didn't go. I was just feeling lazy! But I was dressed and figured I'd give it a go. Better time then the last couple days, and that makes me really happy.

I did some pushups when I got home. Not a lot. But I'm back in the game!

Green Envy


Well, I was Monday night until almost 1 am!!!! I was soo tired today. Too tired to even function. Needless to say I didn't work out. I could hardly get up. Am I old? Accustomed to my routine? Both? YES! It was a beautiful day really because I did everything I needed to: I sat with Anders and played while C was at day camp. It was a great day. But I thought of you all and was green with envy because inside my tired brain there was a Fitnatic screaming to get out.

Made it!

I had a tough eating day! Didn't do as well as I would have like but I also was not prepared for food today! I was so hungry by the time I got home but I had errands to run. I was over by In & Out and it just was calling to me! But I didn't stop. I finished my errands and came home and made/ate my planned out dinner. And I love it. So I'm glad I ate a healthy dinner because, while I like In & Out, I would have been sad after!

I ran this morning and it was good. Slow again. I really have to get back to hills because that helps so much.

I'm still feeling some pain in my foot. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow. I'll have it looked at. I don't think it is P.F. but what do I know!!

Another week begins. Did the 5 mile bike ride this morning on another gorgeous day here. Listened to an old folk group - The Chad Mitchell Trio - and it was fun to hear those old songs again. I loved those guys back in ancient times. Then I did the 45 push ups and 45 sit ups when I got home. I've also been going for a one mile walk every night after supper.

Recovery Fluid

What do you guys drink for recovery after a workout? I really get a lot of miles out of gatorade and powerade. I know there are other mixes out there, etc. but I don't know them. Educate me!

Getting Close

It is almost Friday, which means I'm almost in the desert. Yay! Pretty exciting.

I got up this morning....but I didn't like it! I'm tired. But I got up and ran 3 miles. Traded out my shoes to see if some more stability will help. Cause I've still got a twinge. I know, I know!

Did abs and some tricep dips. I need to get my arms in shape!

Hills!

Or I could have titled this "Dang! I'm sore!"

I ran hills today! Is this the first time in two weeks? Three? Yeah, my goal last week didn't come to fruition. But today I did it and I can already tell. I'm sore! I did 5 runs up. I love getting out of the office at lunch. Feels so good and like I'm in "real life".

And I ran this morning. A 3 miler. I got rained on a bit! I stepped out and realized it was drizzling but just took a baggie with me to keep my iPod dry.

No bands today as I was running late. But I'm back to the 9 am start tomorrow rather then 8 am. So I'll have more time for exercise shenanigans in the morning.

I'm thinking of getting a squishy top for my mattress. Did I already tell you this? I'm getting boney!

Yup!

I did it again! I had a good run this morning, slow though but most of them have been. My foot has been feeling good. WHEW!

It was humid this morning but not at all as hot as it has been.

I'm worn out from work. All this OT should be done very soon. As in tomorrow!

Running!

Well, I'm back at it and, hopefully, for good! I took three days off and I'm only running 3 mile stints this week.

My foot feels a lot better and I'm going to give it a couple of more short runs before declaring myself fixed. If needed I'll take out my bike and do that for a couple of weeks. I'm sorry I missed your call tonight - I must have been in the laundry room and then I didn't realize I had a message. I've gotta pay more attention!

It was nice to be back outside today, that's for sure! I've missed it and I've missed my music!

I did some arm work with the bands today and ab stuff. My hand is still too tender to do pushups! I can't believe it but I just can't put the weight on my palm. And I'm not going to push it. Pushups will wait for me!

More tomorrow!

Oh - good eating day today. All healthy and not too much. WHEW. Cause I could run forever and not make a dent if I'm crazy eating.

Good Morning

Back home and back at it. Rode the bike 5 miles this morning and then did the 45 pushups and 45 situps. Feels good to be back on track. Took Neil D. with me again today. Beautiful morning out there again. We've just had such perfect weather in the mornings here lately.

Almost done!

This sure has been one darn long week! Our filing went really well today, though, and tomorrow should be a good one.

I'm taking tomorrow off from running, for sure. I need to give my foot a break. Might take a few days off. Expect a report on the bands!

This morning I ran three miles and did the bands. Now...I go to bed!

I did it!

I weighed myself! And it wasn't as terrible as anticipated. I'm at 134 and I like to be at 130. I haven't weighed myself for a long time - like a month. Gotta stop that.

So, my foot is a little tender but it feels much better. Not sure, but I might take tomorrow off running and give it a break.

Pretty good run this am - 3 miles. Felt better then yesterday, that's for sure!

And tomorrow will bring another day! Have a good journey into Packerville!

Fitnatics name

Can we copyright this name do you think? I wonder how we do that if it's even possible. I'm thinking it would be a great name for a line of clothing and we could all become millionaires! Been thinking about this since I ordered that new sign for our race.

Worn out!

Yep! Just using the same title again! I did get maybe 4 hours of sleep last night. Not sure what is going on. I'm not really worried or anything. So. Tonight is the night!

My run wasn't so great today, but it got done. I did 3 miles....three slow miles! Been having a bit of an ache in my right foot and, believe you me, I'm deeply paranoid!

Did the bands today. I like those a lot!

Worn out!

Well, in the grand scheme of things, I did OK today. I did not run hills, I did not keep a food diary, and I have no idea about my calories! Here is what I ate today (this will be my diary!):

Oatmeal made with 1 c of milk
1 peach
1 turkey sandwich on ww (this was brought in by the office but they came in dry so I just put mustard on mine - turkey, 1 sliced of cheese, tomato (YES, I even ate it!!!), lettuce, and the previously mentioned mustard.
3 raw carrots
2 nectarines (so, so, so delicious)
Yellow beans - roasted
Carrots - roasted
2 Skinless chicken thighs marinated in Mom's Asian bbq sauce and roasted
1/3 C of ww couscous

So I think that is pretty good!

I had a really great run today and, frankly, I'm surprised. For some reason, I could not sleep at all last night. I think I got about 2.5 hours. But I magically managed to get up at 5, how I don't even know. And I did a six mile run this morning. Really enjoyable, truth be told.

And now I'm tired and broken and need to go to bed. Tomorrow is another day!

Good Morning

Well, since today seems to be the day we're all turning over new leaves and getting back on track I will join you, too. My biggest problem is snacking so that is out for this week! (I hope...maybe...I'll do my best.) Really, that is my biggest problem. I want to lose the 6 pounds I have put on the last 2 months.

I rode the bike 5 miles again this morning. Listened to Jimmy Buffet. Why, you ask? I don't know, I answer. Because he somehow got onto my iPod when I wasn't looking. I have no memory of putting that album on there or where it came from. But there it was. So I listened. Now that I've done it I don't ever have to do it again.

Remember Me?

Hi there! Good to see you all doing so well. It's been a hectic bunch of weeks since I last posted, but let me give you an update as to my progress: not much.

But, I aim to turn that around beginning tomorrow morning. I'm going to get up with enough time to have some coffee and a small, healthy breakfast. Generally I hear the first alarm go off and play the game Snooze Button until the very last minutes where if I don't get into the shower, I'll be late for work. But, that needs to stop. I need to get up early, get some food and precious coffee into my body and get the day started proper.

As well, eating right needs to become a priority. Eating out needs to be a treat, not a convenience and I need to just set aside the time at night to make myself a healthy dinner. I keep using the lack of time as an excuse, but it's more like a crutch. And I need to get off the crutches already.

Then, I plan on embarking upon the Couch To 5K fitness program to get me up to speed so I can run with you all at the next Fitnatics 5K. In fact, if I follow through, I should be well ready to complete the 5K by then! The iPhone has all kinds of great apps that talk to you while you listen to your music while walking/running/jogging and I've really enjoyed using the Nike+ (when it decides it wants to work) as well as TrailGuru and the MotionX GPS system. So, I got the Couch to 5K app and we'll see what comes of it.

Stuff and Things

Hi! I had such a good weekend. Took yesterday off of running, though. I slept until 11! Slept till 10 this morning, I think. But I got a good six mile run in today. Felt great. Good thing it has been so cool or I would not have been able to go so late.

I've got some goals for this week. I'll report on them!

1. No pop
2. No eating out
3. No CANDY/dessert
4. Keep a food diary
5. Keep my calories under 2K/day
6. Run hills 3x this week
7. Run at 6 am rather then 6:30

It is time I get back on track!

Whew!

I'm glad this week is done! I'm already tired and about ready to snooze. We are in a heavy reporting period, which finishes Thursday, but it means I'm going in early and leaving when I'm done! That's OK though - it is short term.


Good run this AM - a three miler. Cold and drizzly yet again! Maybe we'll get some sun this weekend!

BRRRRRR

All caps tells you that it was amazingly cold! And it drizzled on me this morning! Oh well. The price we pay, right? Sounds like you are really getting punished by your weather too!!

I had a good run this morning with my giant headphones! It was good and fun, actually. And I didn't trip! And believe you me, I kept an eye out for the littlest pebble!

I didn't do pushups today because I can't put weight on my hands yet. One is black and blue and the other has a divot! But it's no big deal really (unless I want pity!) and I'm doing great!

Short Run

I only ran about 1.7 miles today. And not because I was sore. Because I was looking for an excuse and I found one.

Today was cold and dreary and drizzly. I could have made it but will you believe that my left ear bud died? Hm.....maybe not the earphones. Could it be that the nano has a flaw and is shorting out the left bud? I'm pretty suspicious. This is NOT out of the blue....again. It was slowly dying but it happened a lot more quickly then last time. I am going to call Apple but I didn't get a chance today.

Anyway, that was the last straw. Rain, cold, stiff, and a dead ear bud? Spells home to me!

Don't know what I'll do tomorrow - I'll figure it out though. I did see your email, by the way. I'll do that tonight or tomorrow am. Thanks!

Another gorgeous morning here. 67 when I left the house and sunny and no wind again today. Doesn't get any better than that for biking. Listened to Rhonda Vincent today so she kept me moving along. I sure hope you have a better day!

Shaking it off!

Or I'm trying! I really hurt myself today! I took quite a tumble right as I was finishing up the Kensington Loop. I was still on the north side of Adams - hadn't crossed to the south side yet - but I was finishing up one block and I stepped to the street to cross to the next and BAM I went down! Tripped, I guess, but I don't recall on what! I sat there in the middle of the street for a minute, I bet, just thinking "I'm pretty sure I'm going to cry! Yes, I do think I'm going to cry....." and then I realized that I had 1.5 miles before I would even see my dang house so I got up and ran home!

The iPod is OK!

And so am I. I've got a lot of scrapes and some bruises. My right hand and arm feel strained. But I'm OK.

And, again, the iPod made it out all right!!

Good Morning

Another absolutely gorgeous morning here. 68 when I left the house for my bike ride and no wind to speak of. Just perfect. We had 2.4 inches of rain overnight so lots of puddles and big ponds in the fields all along the way. I took the cast of Grease with me today. Always good company.

Day.....something or other!

Well, I'm on some kind of day with no pop. I've done well and I have decided to give myself a 30 day break and then I can start having it as a treat again.

Funny conversation the other day:

Bart: Your dad had a really good point on Fitnatics the other day.
Me: Yeah? What's that?
Bart: What the heck is wrong with pop?????????

I agree! And I miss it! But I'm really drinking more water!

I ran today - I didn't want to, but I did. I've just been feeling tired and lazy! You know, I do better when I'm on schedule. AKA: working. I guess I'm a regimented kind of person! When I have a schedule, I know what I'm doing and when I'm doing it! Takes the thought out of it.

Good Morning

I took another bike ride this morning and very little wind today so it was very pleasant. Easy actually. I should have done the 6 mile route but was late getting started. Anyway, I had a good ride. Passed Chris Schimdt both ways out for his morning run. I listened to the soundtrack from Shrek this morning. Haven't listened to that for a long time. It's 89 here already at 10 am so it's going to be hot and humid today. I have some gardening to do this afternoon but I'm waiting until it gets really warm! Have a good day!

Good Morning

I did the 5 mile route again this morning and, wow, the wind was a-blowing on the return trip! The windiest morning in a long time so it was work coming home. Then did the push ups and sit ups. I listened to "Hits of the 70's" this morning.

Amy and Paul went for their run this morning, too, so they earned their Fitnatics shirts for this year.

I went to bed pretty late for a work night but I popped right out of bed at 5 and I had a really fun run this am. Just meaning that I really enjoyed it! Listened to my marathon mix.

Did the bands today but focused on legs.

Now I've got to go to bed!
