Walked with the soundtrack to Shrek this morning. Some really fun stuff there. Also saw two cats, 1 dog, and chased 2 deer off the road as I came up on them. And the garbage man waved at me - twice! Going and coming. He must be a walker or jogger, too. Not our garbage man though. Beautiful morning here again. We have had such nice weather since it stopped raining every day like it was for a while.
Are you having lots of smoke out there from all the fires in California? Lots of talk on the news about that.

The spice of health: unhealth!
I have had a couple of unhealthy dinners recently, but I am perfectly content with this fact. Sometimes some unhealthy behavior is necessary to live a healthful life!
Today I only made it for one walk around the block at lunch. That's OK though. Also, I mapped it out and that distance is over half a mile (.63actually). After work I went over to Coronado and walked as well. I walked about a 1.25 miles. I planned to stay longer and walk more, actually. But here is the thing: it was kind of gross over there today! Very stinky on the beach and the sand bugs were practically a swarm. So, I called it done a bit earlier then intended.
We are going to warm up this weekend to around 90. But I plan to get out on Saturday and Sunday even if it is just for a bike ride.

Good Morning
Walked with Rod Stewart this morning and I won't do that again. Felt like I was in a piano bar listening to a lounge singer. No energy for walking there. But once I had him on I didn't want to stop and change it. So...good walk though. Another perfect morning. They are predicting rain tonight and in the morning though and sure hope we get it. We are very dry. Not as bad as California from what I hear on the news but we need the rain. Have a good day!

Fitting it in
I did get exercise today, but not of the "formal" variety.
Our newly implemented lunch break program almost fell apart today. I, however, refused to let this happen - at least to me. It was a very busy day at work today and we were, as usual, understaffed. But when noon rolled around (12 is my scheduled time) I took my lunch and went to the park. After I was done eating I walked around the block twice, which took about 25 to 30 minutes. I did not really push myself but I wanted to move a little bit. And I did.
Then I had a work crisis occur and I was so p@%#!% that I took another walk around the block!
Then I had my WFS meeting today at 6:30 so I did some walking (and phone talking) before the meeting.
So, as I said, none of this was formal, get the heart racing exercise. But I still moved about!
I am giving myself 57 gold stars for my emotional health today, though. As I mentioned, I had something really infuriating happen at work - coworker related. And through my anger some of the first thoughts that popped into my head was "Problems bother me only to the degree I permit them" and "I am a competent woman". Those are a couple of affirmations that are the core of the WFS program. And I realized that in the four months I since I have joined the group, I have apparently really learned something! Yes, I'm upset. But this is not really my problem. So I am not going to obsess. And I am NOT going to worry. And I am competent. So there!

Seriously.....
As in, seriously. Yay me! Today I ran!
OK, today I actually added some jogging to my 4 mile walk but this is a pretty exciting move (jump-leap!!) forward for me. I love to run and it is something that I have not done in a long, long time. Maybe 8 to 9 months.
This afternoon I decided to walk one song/run one song while doing my route. The really great news is that I have a lot more stamina then I thought. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I feel like I walked 1.5 miles and ran 2.5 miles. Just a guess. I know I jogged more then I walked though. Soon I will be running the entire way. Pretty exciting!

Tuesday Morning
And I'm not working! Been working all weekend so taking today off. Slept until 7:30!!! So, a late start but Neil Diamond and I went for our walk. Another gorgeous day here. Perfect weather. We need some rain now though again. Lawn is starting to turn in a couple of places. I watered the garden and flower beds Sunday night and might have to do it again tonight.
Had kind of a down day yesterday but feeling much better this morning. A good night's sleep and a day off will do that for you.
I picked up another book that I'm finding helpful. Defeating Depression by Howard Stone. Augsburg Fortress book. Very practical and an easy read.

I forgot!
Good work news, by the way. And, yes, this is exercise related.
We (meaning someone named Julie) decided that it was total BS to work all day with no break. Thus, official lunch hours have been implemented. Today was the first day because we had a lot of things that needed to be rearranged.
Anyway, during lunch I was able to take a 25 minute walk. Really, it was beautiful! Yay!

Not in the AM though. My alarm went off at six and I did not even bother to snooze for five. I just turned the darn thing off, rolled over, and went right smack back to sleep!
I did walk tonight after work though. I did the little four mile walk by my house. It was a beautiful evening. 76 degrees, or so said the Methodists on their bank-style marquee.
Super healthy eating today! Including, but not limited to, blackberries and blueberries from the Farmer's Market!
Now Zoey and I are just hanging out. Dinner tonight will be a salad with lettuce and baby turnips. I made a dressing with butter milk, honey Greek-style yogurt, and poppy seeds.
All in all a good healthy day! I give myself a cumulative total of ten billion stars!

What do you think about implementing a rating system as to how we preformed for the day? We could relate our success for:

We could do 1 - 5 stars. Or something like the obviously valuable threat level rating.

I'm going to blame Mother Nature - it has been really hot! So I really have not been doing too much. But I have been walking to the store and other local things like to Ponces and The Ken. Trying to get my exercise where I can find it, I guess!
Honestly, now that summer is here, I really really should exercise in the morning before work. I am going to try and make that happen tomorrow. The only promise I make on that count, though, is to report back!!

Another Day
Walked with Bruce Springstein this morning. Not my favorite but you gotta mix it up once in a while. I like some of his stuff a lot but the rest of it I can take or leave. Mostly leave. Another gorgeous morning here. Have a long day ahead though. Getting ready for a funeral on Monday (Leonard Koehler, don't think any of you know him), have a wedding rehearsal tonight and wedding tomorrow (8 bridesmaids and groomsmen on each side! I sometimes think "the more unsure they are, the more witnesses they need!). Also put a roast, potaotes, carrots, onions, and rutabagas in the crock pot this morning for our dinner tonight. Mom is going out to dinner with her buddies. Have a good day!

Dinner Tonight
I'm glad we're getting to feel like this is home. I'm cooking more and that always feels good. On Monday I did pork roast in the crock pot and tonight I'm making enchilada casserole with the leftovers. Frankly I don't know why I used to spend so much time doing the individual rolling the tortillas and filling when they just fall apart by the time they get to the plate. Casserole is much simpler. A light sprinkle of cheese and simple ingredients. Hope it is tasty!
We (the kids and I) went to the local pool for the first time today. Very fun! I didn't run today because I couldn't sleep last night. Hopefully I sleep before 2 tonight so I can get my butt out of bed at 6!

A goal met!
I got a walk in before I went to my girl meeting tonight! I am pretty pleased that I made this happen and really want to make it a habit.
I walked in my work neighborhood, which was great because the route I took had a good amount of hills. I have no idea how long it was distance wise, but time wise I walked for about 50 minutes.
Also a very healthy eating day!

Okay, it is the middle of the week in case you don't know. So, when I look at it that way, I have 3 days to make good! Not that I have been THAT bad but I haven't been that good for 3 days! I've had an interesting awakening about myself. When I do some low calorie cooking my mind tells me I can eat more. If I have a slim fast my mind tells me I can have a high calorie snack because I haven't eaten all that much! So, I'm going to have to be out of my mind! (I know, I know...you think I am out of my mind already!) I have to retrain my brain! And I will. I haven't exercized this week, except for floor exercises and a few little trips around the yard. But every little bit helps because I am trying to walk 10,000 steps and some days that is tough to do. Anyway, I am not too discouraged yet, but I have to do better! And I will! Tomorrow I am going for a walk!

Two in a row!
I got another nice walk in after work tonight. I did the four mile route in my neighborhood. It is a good walk because it has some solid hills. Oh, and it is four miles!
Another beautiful day here today - but we are starting to get a touch of "the heat". My frizzy hair is letting me know that it is also humid!
Anyway, as someone else said, one down! A lifetime to go!

I'm still here!
I didn't get a chance to write yesterday because we were just plain having too much fun celebrating dads! But here is a question for you guys: How come a person can be on their feet all day, working all day, had 3 meals (sort of--breakfast, slimfast, and supper!) and NOT be able to loose a fraction of a fraction of a pound?
I did my floor exercises today and a few other exercises and thought I would go outside after supper and walk, but got wrapped up in a tv show with mom and Megan and the next thing I knew it was time to get mom in bed! Oh well, bound to be more days like today, but there will also be the days I succeed in eathing right and exercising!

Oh, yeah, it stays at rest!! I did some things over the weekend that could be construed as exercise, but I did not go for a health walk. Today I did, though! And it was really great! After work I did my local four mile route and I was sweaty upon my return.
It was a beautiful day here today and it was great to get outside. Blue sky and none too hot. Perfect, actually.
Healthy eating all the way around today, too. I am making lentil soup for dinner, which I am pretty excited about.

Three Days of Exercise!
OK. So I find exercise where ever I am. On Saturday we walked to the park, I did some standing push ups on the equipment. Yesterday, Sunday, I rode my bike. It was a great ride, 3 mi. and that is big for me. I saw some runners and thought, "Gee. I wish I were running instead." So today I ran 1.5. And for the first time since the move I feel in shape. I ran straight through and continued my "Set a pace, not a race" mantra. I used to just burn out right away because I went so fast. Now I'm aiming to be level.

Bedtime!
It is time for me to get ready for bed but before I do I want to evaluate my day. I was tired and crabby! I am trying to find someone to spend a couple of nights a week with me because caregiving day and night with no breaks is difficult. But after some anger and tears (mine) I managed to pull myself together and have an okay day. Or evening. I did get to walk for almost 1/2 hour tonight plus do my floor exercises. No weights though. Just didn't get to them. And actually, I mean dumbbells, not weights. I did stirfry for supper but I only use 2 tablespoons of oil so except for the sodium it isn't too bad. And we had a nice salad with "fixin's" from the garden. I hope for sleep tonight. My outlook will be 100% better. Anyway...that is it for tonight!

Air Supply and I walked this morning. Wonderful, wonderful. Gorgeous morning here. About 68 when I was walking and already 72. Might get hot! A jogger passed me up this morning and I had no clue she was coming. I need to get some rear view mirrors for my headset. I'm 3.6 below my goal weight this morning! What's up with that? So, I'm fixing us bacon and eggs to celebrate!

1 down, 364 to go!
Okay, here I go! Today I lifted 8 lb weights and did some push ups and sit ups and leg lifts and some other floor exercises and my regular floor exercises. Plus I did manage to do a little cleaning but with all that I still have not put 10000 on my pedometer! But dad and I are watching "No country for old men" and I have been pacing since it started so I assume that by the time the movie is over I will have 10000 steps. IF I can finish the movie!
I also ate decent so that makes me feel a lot better about myself! Julie, the salmon was wonderful! And so was the last of the asparagus!

I had such a busy day at work today. Deep down inside (all right, not that deep) I just wanted to come home and be done. But I decided that no matter what I would get some exercise in. I know I just need to make it a habit again. So I did!
I walked my little neighborhood route. 2.5 miles. And I am really glad I did! Also, I ate healthy all day. I am still contemplating dinner but I plan on doing that healthy in keeping with the rest of the day!

Walk til you drop!
Man, I fell down!
I did get really good exercise pre-fall, however. I went to this hill I like and walked (as fast as possible) up and down and up and down. And then I went down! Like I said, it was at the end so I'm not too sad. But I have a solidly skinned knee!
I imagine I did 20 minutes of hillness before I fell, had a tantrum, and stomped back to my car!
More tomorrow. Probably beach. I've not yet fallen there!

The Beach Boys and I walked this morning. Our usual 2 miles in 30 minutes. That's 4 miles an hour! Pretty good for an old man I think. We walked inside again today though because it's threatening more rain. We had 1.6 inches yesterday and overnight so we are wet, wet, wet here. Looks like you're getting it today Amy. Today I am down 43 pounds from a year ago! Also pretty good for an old man who likes to eat! Have a good day!

Day Off
Well, I guess I will put a positive spin on today by calling it a day off! Cause, you know, two days in a row is tough!!
I brought my walking duds so I could walk before my meeting tonight. Well, leave it to work to mess up my plan! I ended up working with a client until 5:20 and then I had a couple of projects to finish up. So, no walking happened I am very sad to say. I did eat healthy all day though so that is a good thing.
Back to it tomorrow!

Brrrr!
Well, it is still the middle of winter here in San Diego! But, like the good Fitnatic that I aspire to be, I bundled up and went for a walk after work.
I went over to Coronado and walked for about 40 minutes. I am not sure the distance. It was my standard Coronado mosey - from the edge of the naval station over to the Del and then back. No matter the distance, it is a beautiful and relaxing walk. It was very gray and cool today - a bit windy but not too bad. And the ocean was not very choppy actually.
So, yay, day two of getting some exercise!
Editing to add: Apparently I am getting old. I'm sore!!

Yay!
Yay - I did something! After work tonight I went for a walk in my neighborhood. You can safely call it the hood, if you like. Anyway, my walk was 2.5 miles RT.
In addition, I have been having a healthy eating day. I am positive that I will have exceeded the five servings of fruits/vegetables I should eat every day.
