Walking Recruitment

I am happy to report that my neighbor, Miss S., joined me on my walk today. We walked from Nottingham to Georgia street, which is almost 4 miles. It is the same route I have been doing all week. It was a beautiful day for a walk and it was really fun to visit all the way. It sure made the walk seem a lot shorter. To me anyway!

The best news of the day for me was when Miss S. said "You look a lot leaner already". That made me feel good. I can feel a real difference in the way my cloths fit but it is nice to know that it is actually noticeable. Also, insane neighbor lady asked me today if I was losing weight. She is still insane, but that warmed me toward her a tad!

In addition to my afternoon walk, I rode my bike to work today and I was the roaster today, as well. That means a lot of up and down on the ladder, a lot of bucket filling, and a lot of bean lifting. So I feel like I moved a lot today.

I have had a good eating day thus far. The usual breakfast. I did not have my act together enough last night to bring lunch to work but the sandwich side today was a little salad with chickpeas, pinto beans, yellow and red pepper, red onion, and carrots tossed in a vinaigrette. It was really good and really healthy and really cheap. Cost me a buck! Now I am making some beets for dinner. I love beets. One of my favorite vegetables.

Time to clean up and rest up!

Another long day for me and I didn't get a walk in at all today. Not much exercise today of any kind either so will have to make up for it over the weekend. Ate right though.

Just a long day at work?

I was thinking today about when I was running. During the summer it was too hot for me to get a full session in during the afternoon so I split it - AM/PM. Maybe you could do a short 15 minute walk twice a day. That might make it more palatable.

Yes, that might work but will a short walk get my heart rate up to where it needs to be? Don't know about that. Actually, walking doesn't burn that many calories but it's getting the heart rate up that's important. At least, that's what my personal fitness coach here says.

I'll do some research and see what I can find. I have always heard, though, that it is just as healthful to split up the workout as it is to do it at once. In fact, some thing it may be better because you are getting your heart rate up twice a day. I guess in the morning "they" say it helps pop your metabolism into gear and you can actually burn more calories because you are starting earlier and it helps throughout the day.

I think it is ok to do 2 fifteen minute sessions, but you may want to try and work harder to get the heart rate up. Better find something though. What will you do when it is super cold?

And I was also thinking that two 15 minute sessions will be 100% better then having to completely skip due to the weather.

Yeah, well, I got the whole 30 minutes in today right after lunch. Did my walking at the church. Down to the stop sign on hwy 35 and then back to the stop sign on 240th and then back to church. Nice day for it.

That is a good walk. A nice hill.
